They kind of just assumed it wanted to destroy everything. :/ It didn't really, but being scared enough without its mother and having all these people attack it all at once, it was probably completely terrified and acted out of fear.

@DeiJulie Well we know that he has been thousands of years resting in the deep sea. His skin became very thick as time passed by. I don't that even a tranquilizer could penetrate his skin. Also I think the real people to blame are of Tagruato. If they weren't trying to study Clover and lying to the media, Clover could of remained in sea even after the satellite crashed.
