  • Did you ever post a vid about the defense for the non-touching, left hand gunman?

  • @crankytroll Hi Cranky, I didn't post that scenario.. I will be shooting loads of material within a week for a DVD series. I will remember to do what you request left hand hold. It is not hard just higher risk in either right hand or left. Thanks for posting.

  • clear and precise instruction. awsome job...

  • there isn't a defense if that person doesn't have the gun touching from behind rite??

  • Hi HC, yes, There IS a defense. A couple actually. Not difficult but higher risk. Maybe I will put them up soon. Thanks for the post.

    Rick

  • do you have any training camps in toronto

  • Hi Peter,

I am sorry I do not. Search out Nir Maman. I haven't spoken to Nir in a while. He used to be out of Toronto until a couple years ago he went back to teach Israeli special forces. I think he has now come back to Toronto. Not sure. We differ in some tactics but he is very good. You would learn great material from him.

  • Very down to earth and straight forward instruction.I was taught something very similar in silat.Capture, stick, strike either straight or elbow. Whats is seen as the difference in what is considered old school KM and I suppose newer KM?

    Good video.

  • Thanks. My instructor (and Eyal Instructor) Eli Avikzar modified the elbow to a punch. One reason being that now it doesn't matter if the attacker is tall or shorter. Same defense with no decision. Another if the attacker just happens to move back the punch will reach where the elbow won't. Lastly Eli felt that the angle of the elbow strike MAY move the attacker to the left, possibly causing a control or balance issue. Teaching under his org. I changed to the strike. Either way is fine.

  • Alex, I have a handful of other tactics that I or (Eli) have modified that I believe you will like or find interesting. May upload them. Eyal has made a few nice modifications I like. For the most part all is about the same. Be well and keep up the good work.

  • Great video!

Some "old school" KMers may notice that Rick teaches a variant of this technique that uses a punch to the face instead of an elbow strike. I think Eli Avikzar was the first to adopt this variation.

By using a punch instead of an elbow, the defender can more easily adjust his counter-attack to compensate for distance or height difference and increase the chance of getting in a good first strike. (Eli was not a tall man, but he sure was tough!)

  • Another purpose of the punch strike is to keep the attacker going straight back. Eli felt that the reaction from the elbow strike could move the attacker to the side, compromising control. Either way the attack should be with damaging intent.
