If I'm in the suburbs, conventional fire-making items will be much easier to find. Box of kitchen matches, book of matches from that over-priced restaurant I ate at, Bic lighters from the over-priced gas-station mini-mart, and so on.
Heck, it's the suburbs . . . I can walk a few yards to my neighbor's house and ask to borrow his phone to order a pizza. Survival completed.
I do question the utility of this technique, though, as if I'm ever in a place where I can get water balloons, it'll probably mean I'm in a place where I can get something that will work better for starting fires. If I'm out in the wilderness, there's not much chances I'll be carrying water balloons. I'd be carrying a dedicated fire starting device or two.
@CanItAlready I did the video, It's one of 32 ways to make fire and the last I myself would use, The editor cut all these facts when I did these video's.
There is no need for Survival in suburbs? That is strange, Katrina, 3 days no food and water, Northridge Quake 7 days no utilities, Mexico 200 rescue workers killed in the city trying to help, Uganda hundreds dead because water was bad, Volcanoe eruptes Mt St Helens, City missing, Remember there is only a few people deep in the wild, So even if there is a disaster it won't be destructive because there is such a low % of people.
it's amazing, isn't it, how people conveniently forget stories about people more or less stranded in an urban/suburban area and have to do for themselves until help arrives? Then there are the city dwellers who've actually posted on boards, "I don't need to carry a flashlight 'cause I'm in the city and there are lights everywhere." Yeah, okay, but when the power grid goes down and you find yourself in the dark for a few days, don't ask to borrow MY flashlight.
@roccospinelli1 Next time be so kind to click on reply, instead of "replying" unbeknownst to me.
As someone already correctly stated: if you're in a place that has a supply of waterballoons, you'll probably be able to find much more useful utilities than just that. Besides, the water incident in Uganda could not have been resolved with the "techniques" demonstrated in this video. And, all of these things are natural, they're something anyone would/could do in a "suburban" survival situation.
wow this is stupid im looking every where and u can only make fire with tools you bring, how about someone make a movie where u make a fire with only tools u find in the forest. Ye im gonna have a water balloon in the forest
thats hilarius deathmean. iv just got one question, well two. if your headed anywhere except a party why would you have balloons, and in a survival situation, how the hell are you gona get it that full, let alone filled at all... i just dont think a pond or stream will do it
yeah....kind of a dumb idea if you ask me...but i guess it could work...if you could get it filled...maybe a condom would work....it would be easier to fill..since it is less tight than a baloon
Amazing!!! I always find myself trapped in survival situations with only a water balloon, but thanks to this video, I now know what I can do to stay alive!!!
@pikulicluka Suburban survival is a term that means material you use found in towns, cities and etc, He never mentions wilderness, You would have no chance finding a match either deep in the wild, Suburban/wilderness, Two vast different skills and terms.
@roccospinelli1 I know what suburban survival means, and that makes it even more amusing!
"Material you use, found in towns, cities etc" - that, my friend, is the entire problem... If I were in the position of being in a suburban area, I wouldn't have to survive in the first place...
So, because there's no need of survival in suburbs - it only leaves us with wilderness survival. Which this video, to be perfectly frank about it, isn't really useful for either...
Fair enough... HOWEVER... in suburbia, I think you are 100% more likely to have a conventional method of fire making rather than this crap. Also, how many people carry water balloons around with them? I know I carry peices of inner tube from a car tire, but certianly not a water balloon.... its a parlor trick, nothing more.
Look again at the title. Does it say "Backcountry survival tip?" Nope. It says SUBURBAN survival tip. And in suburbia this type of tip may be very useful. I'll definately file it away...
"This is basically fire started from water"..LOL...is that "basically" what it is? Dont forget your garden hose or sink spigot, while your out, "surviving in the wild". Be sure to hook your garden hose up, DOWNSTREAM...as to get enough WATER PRESSURE to fill your "rubber balloon fire starter"! Your more likely to find broken glass in our forests' today to start a friggin' fire with...or cut your throat with...
You don't, your supposed to fill it up, then hike it up to wherever you are planning to make a fire XD You know just in case the proven bow drill fails LOL!
wouldn't be very practical, unless you have an abundant supply of water. wouldn't be very smart to to this in the desert. that balloon pops...there goes your water....
This balloon video is really exelent in case you live in Africa and you are walking out from a Mcdonald's children party and you get lost in the wild while walking home.
I will post a Video responce where you can take out the blue ray laser of a playstation 3 and use it for lighting a fire in the wilderness. Just in case you are out there lost and hapens that you have a ps3 and a car battery.
nice parlor trick but definately not a survival tactic...these people at expert villiage (in my opinion) have no business teaching survival techniques i think they should be called jackassofalltradesmasterofnonevilliage instead
Although I do agree with the expert village part in general this is actually not a bad technique to learn.
This can be done with a condom as well and I'm sure you know why a condom is useful. It's not going to be a preferred way of starting a fire but if it got to that point you could.
sure, water container, turniquit, makeshift rubber glove, add with some cotton for fire making material, dry storage container, just in case you find some strange while lost lol,and so on but i get it if my bic runs out of fluid,i loose my mag glass,i run out of flint on my steel,my batteries are dead,i cant find wood to make a bow drill,or my matches are wet,i always have that rubber with me for a back up fire starter, another fire starting method is always valuable in a survival situation
i Bet this idiot in the video wants to light a fire ,, he then realises that all the water is in his canteen and not in the ballon , he then tries to fill the ballon with his last water to light a fire ,,, and then he spills all of it on the ground .. read my leaps for the magic word... Flint + Magnesium block...cant go wronk ,, cannot break ,, works when wet..
Look at the size of the knife this guy has on his belt ,,, in survival classes we teach people NOT to follow people with big knifes,, they are the ones with less knowlage and bigger Ego. SO can you please tell us under which circomnstances you will have a Clear ballon in your pocket and need to light a fire ? .. My son will be upset as from now on only clear baloons are alowwed home..... get real man... show somwthing interested to people..
what? for one you dont know where he lives and some places the threat of animal attack is so high that it makes sense to carry a long knife for offense and range. two, magnification fire starting of any kind needs a pretty intense sunlight so you couldnt start one in the home unless u opened a window in direct sunlight. and three, a plain balloon is rly tiny, like penny size, and if ur hiking in a place hot enough to allow mag fire starting, u probably have water, which u pour back after.
Oh my GOD... man you need some help .. lets start from begining ..we DO NOT kill animals that live in the wild just because they did not like us intruding their teritory .. there is plenty of ways to keep them away.
Otherwise there will be no bears , wolfs , lions , left in this world. So it doesnt work like that ,, guys dont take a Rambo knife just in case a bear shows up ,, or a shotgun just incase you sit on a rattle snake...
Second and final .. when is it more likely that you need a fire for surviving ,, a. when the sun is burning hot on 13:00 am or b. WInter time cloudy day pooring down the rain/snowing ? c. Night time lost in the forest ? If you have answer a , the go ahead and carry a water baloon in your pocket,,,,
if u are intentionally going camping in the middle of woods, not when a bear shows up at your house. And there r other ways to keep them away, but nonetheless people die from animal attacks when camping or hiking in the middle of no where. And obviously there r many things which keep magnification fire starting from being possible, but when u live in the right ecosystem and the right weather, this concept is good for intentionally starting a fire and not surviving when lost. So,not a survival tactic
Lot of people are commenting that they don't carry balloons in their pocket but...
He should have titled it: Start a fire with a water filled condom. Most guys carry those in their pockets, also don't need a tap to fill one of them either.
Maybe they should have thought before they shot their comments off.
hey dumbass , you could suck water into ur mouth , then blow it into the balloon. and if u were stuck in a survival situation , i bet u could figure sumthing out.
I always carry fucking balloons when I'm out camping , I mean who doesnt. Sometimes I don't even pack anything but balloons. Red balloons, Blue balloons, and sometimes yellow ones too. Quite often I pre-fill them with water and just pack my car with them for the drive. Balloons fucking rule!
Neat trick but what's the point? Who's gonna carry around either a water balloon, or an empty balloon and water seperately, or access to a fixed water supply?
Condoms could work guess, those are pretty common carry items, but there's still the matter of water.
And if it's in the suburbs, where access to these things might be more at hand, why would you need to start a fire in the suburbs?
i haven seen water pressure from a puddle strong enough to inflate the balloon, and i havent tried filling one with urine, but i doubt the pressure would be sufficient.
As far as finding a balloon, does anyone carry "rubbers" they will probably work as well. I think these video's are the best I've seen yet! Thank you for the information hope to see more of your work!
In response to the comment about finding the right balloons, Every pack of balloon's has white as well as colored. As far as lighters go ... What if you do not have a lighter? What if the lighter brakes? What if your lighter runs out of lighter fluid?
This video is amazing ... creating fire from water! Great Job. I see though that a great many "yoyo's" here do not know the difference between "suburban" and "wilderness" ... Where does he say anything about wilderness survival? He doesn't even mention wilderness.
I tried this but once the fire started, it burned my balloon, causing it to pop... pouring water all over my fire :(
Now I always carry extra water balloons with me when I'm in the wilderness. Forget a bulky and heavy Bic lighter, I'd rather have a fragile water balloon in my pocket.
what if your in the wild and you dont have a faucet?

And if it's in the suburbs, where access to these things might be more at hand, why would you need to start a fire in the suburbs?

did you fill the balloon with a garden Tap?
i haven seen water pressure from a puddle strong enough to inflate the balloon, and i havent tried filling one with urine, but i doubt the pressure would be sufficient.

screw the balloon its more likely that I would be stranded with a mirror or i would use the back of my ipod rather than that!

I did that a while ago, but i only got the plastic i was trying to light, to crumble.
But i used a pretty small ballon, so it should work out pretty well:)
