Occasionally pigs squash their young, but accidents happen all the time. its more natural them giving birth this way. at least this pig has the freedom to get up and walk about where she pleases. not like other pigs who are forced to stay lying down with bars on top of her. in pur pig house there is a low bar on one side where the piglets can go if they want, but it doesnt effect the mother in any way.

@GloVermont2 natural selection and survival of the fittest are nature terms, when humans take animals out of nature they are responsible. Crates save pigs. Survival of the fittest Is irrelevant because lesser hogs wont be used for breeding! There genetics wont continue!

There are many breeds of pig that are excellent mothers, no crates required, however I don't think they are major commercial breeds. Old Spots make excellent mama pigs. Thanks for posting this!
