I found a study by the Brookings Institute that Hartford Connecticut is the richest city based on per capita GDP, and Oslo is the 2nd richest city based on per capita GDP. They hardly have populations anywhere comparable to Tokyo or New York. It is easy to have a larger per capita GDP when your population is so small. Per capita GDP is just GDP divided by population. This video is about the cities with the largest GDP's by 2025 and not metopolitan areas.
I love Japan, and I love the US too. I don't mean to insult any city here but I observed that New York City(Metro) has a population about a third the size of the Tokyo metropolitan area, and yet, it has an economy that is not much far behind.(I think about 2-3% smaller) .. You can verify this. Thats an amazing thing isn't it?
