methinks, the problem is propaganda-driven monetary-ism and is (more or less) the same globally, nowadays; with local differences nearly negligible compared to the global Gleichschaltung brought upon the world by capital-fasc-ism.
(or, as Chomsky often points out: there's hardly any difference between 'republicans' and 'democrats' (any more) - as they are merely fractions of the one 'business-party' )
chomskys views have nothing to do with nz. The united states yes. There is a big, huge monsterous comparisn in difference the way elections are televised/advertised. Nz is probably the most western country to be free from any any global agenda.
airelomeiel: What you say was true - more or less - under Labour. Under National, it isn't as true at it used to be. This new government toes the US line in every respect. The faux-free-market, impoverish-the-middle-class policies are identical. Chomsky's point was right-wing aligned media manipulation of the public using emotive wedge issues. In NZ, "Nanny state", "Tax cuts", "Anti-smacking"....and demonising Helen Clark. Very much out of the US Right play book. Very apt.
