  • Music is a bridge between people, although we may feel a different emotion than the other, the beauty of it cannot be denied.

  • There's something very comforting about the tune. The performance is spectacular! I love it.

  • This song is very nostalgic for me. 'Princess Mononoke' was the first anime movie I ever saw, and it spawned a life long love. <3~!!!

  • This is awesome... BUT SHOULDN'T THEY BE GOOD ENOUGH MUSICIANS TO KNOW WHEN A VIOLIN IS OUT OF TUNE? God damnit...

  • Love this version. Anybody know if this version is on a CD or anything?

  • this is a master piece of sounds and silences... things that come out from the heart...

    I love it.

  • Could someone please tell me what these beautiful instruments are?

  • @ReevesCrawford i think its a koto, a shamisen, a violin and a piano =)

  • @OpacmanO1

To be precise, it's a guzheng (ancient chinese harp), an erhu (Chinese violin), a piano and a violin.

  • @LinguaNonFranca guzheng is just a chinese version of a koto -.-

and hisiaishi is japanese, so i guess its a koto

  • @OpacmanO1 lol dude, its a guzheng and an erhu.

  • @OpacmanO1 Do your research. The guzheng came first.

  • @OpacmanO1 -.- yep, hisaishi is japanese, but those two girls are chinese... they are from a group called 女子十二乐坊 which plays modern music in chinese instruments, there were very famous in japan some years ago...

  • 最高!

  • OMG AN ERHU + JOE HISAISHI. Amazing!! Although the Violin is kind of out of tune...

  • @Lomathiel I don't think the violin is out of tune just the glissandos are drawn out.

  • @Lomathiel He's playing the minor fingerings lol also he is on 4th position.

  • i love how violinists curl their arms in while playing it gives soo much emotion

  • Everytime I listen to this, I think of how far I've gone, where I am now, and where I want to be.

  • Where's the Love button?

  • my favorite one :)

  • anyone know the name of the violinist?

  • @Fernz87 it says Alexander 'Baranesuku' I dunno how to spell his last name cuz its written in katakana

  • @Fernz87

    Alexander Balanescu, from Romania.

  • ty for that you uploadded this

  • This is perfect to get one peaceful moment in your life !

  • could someone please tell me the name of the instruments the women are using?

  • @Laylaa04 in red is using "gu zheng", in white is using "er hu".

  • @missdisenchanter

you are awwesome for knowing that

  • @Laylaa04 both are chinese instruments. (;

  • @missdisenchanter wow thank you very much :)....they just sound so beautiful!!!

  • Listening to the full orchestral version of this and then listening to this.. Hmm... I think I like the erhu violin solo than the actual violin solo.

  • just listening to this makes studying and relaxing so much more easier and relaxed

  • this is touching stuff @_@

  • Anyone got score for this song?

  • wonderful.

  • God, this man is a genius.

  • They all have so much passion!

Hell, it seems any musician associated with Joe Hisaishi is just as enthusiastic about music as he is! (but I guess that's true for most professional orchestras.)

  • wow T_T

  • anyone knows some information of this concert? i want to listening the entire act.

  • I¨ll liked :)

  • Mononoke Hime, the best movie that I've ever seen, and the best beautifull songs. Joe Hisaichi has God's hands

  • What is the name of the instrument of the lady in white?

  • @noe88api : it's "Erhu"

  • @scott06106 thanks

  • @noe88api Well, its not a traditional japanese instrument since she uses a bow, maybe its chinese or korean

  • @Soraplushie it is Chinese traditional instrument

  • from which concert this video was taken?? reply please :)

  • Takes you to anther space and time ... thank God for such incredible talent.

  • i'm studying ancient east asia as i listen to joe hisaishi...

really gets you into the mood. :P

  • Mr. Hisaishi, you are my GOD! I bow down to you! :D

  • I think the 4,326 us should go on a killing spree to the other 27 who disagrees and dislikes this beautiful peace. After that we 4,326 likes can come back to our bedrooms, close our eyes, and listen to this song one more time. Anyone agree? :D I do.

  • This is ashitaka sekki? I thought this was the main theme?

  • meraviglioso!!!!

  • I'm the last person who usually would comment about the likes and dislikes, but what kind of a lowlife would even bother disliking this?

  • @Mirrorthrone68 i understand you comment but i have to say in the beginning its not as pretty as the original orchestra version so id say the gave up on that part hahahahahaha oh well not our problem isnt it?

  • I love the erhu part in this !!!<3

Even though I play the violin, one of these days I'm totally going to learn how to play the erhu xD It has such a soulful and amazing tune =)

Thank you for writing and performing such beautiful and heartfelt music!!! I can't stop hitting the replay button!!! =)

  • the violin is too loud... grrr

  • @kickmyask82 it must be the sound engineer's fault. =(((

  • This makes me so proud of the fact that I play violin AND guzheng... one of these days, I'm seriously going to see if they have guzheng sheet music for this that I can get.

  • Why are asian music, som more peaceful then easten music????

  • @mambowe

Simple, it isn't it's just that the ones you find are ;p and also the difference in mentality since olden times ;p

  • @mambowe cos we are more peaceful

  • @mambowe some of the most rushed music i've heard was Indian, Chinese and Japanese techno / pop. We have peaceful western genres and composers as well.

  • @mambowe >_> cause asia awesome

  • @kingdomheartsss Exactly!!!!

  • @mambowe try enya.

  • @mambowe Its not that western music dosent have it but its harder to find unfortunately. I just hope it will continue like this within the next 100 years

  • @mambowe Asian art, whether it's music or fine art, you'll find that a lot of the times it's very elegant. That's what i like about asian art :) Western is cool too- it's just a cultural difference that's all :)

  • @ThePeterhillier thats a lot of stealing lol xD

  • 中西合并天下无敌

  • so hurt....my hard :)

  • my fav part is 2:10 when the gu zheng comes in watery..

  • The erhu fiddle sounds so sadness...

  • i do love Hisaishi music, but i really dont understand why he used that violinist. he offten goes out of tuning.

  • @jirodesouma

Yep, it's simply embarrassing when he changes positions... but again, this is youtube, so i suppose you'll be flamed in no time~~ I gave you a thumb up just so you know

btw the 2 Chinese players are simply amazing, especially 姜小青~ gotta love a good Guzheng player

  • i've heard this son for the first time years ago, when i first wazched princess mononoke, and it has been one of my, if not THE, fovorite songs... thank you for this piece of art

  • I cry every time I watch this.

  • Ya I'm not going to lie I feel so sorry for my brother whose deaf because he can only watch the movie and that's only half of the best part about it the other half is the music...

  • Thumbs up for the most epic violin player ever!

  • Joe Hisaishi and the Baddest Crew of Musical Mobsters!

This rendition is one of the most beautiful that I've heard, the non-European instruments have a particular beauty that is difficult to rival.

  • sekki means baby animal in korean, but gaesekki means bitch o_o;;

  • i wish i could play my violin like that T^T

  • i love how master Joe Hisaishi come up with this fantastic song..it felt paradise..

  • I think this is not "Ashitaka sekki(The Legend of Ashitaka)" too

  • when i listen to music like this i feel like im one with nature. Asia is the land of music indeed.

  • pshhh i watch studio ghibli movies to listen to the soundtracks. the film ACCOMPANIES the music <3

  • @justapersonlikeyou I know what you mean, But I cant agree wtih you to 100%. The movies are deep and have a beautiful story and the characters are so good. The music can never take that away from Miyazaki

  • @justapersonlikeyou the film is a masterpiece itself. they complement each other so nicely. Miyazaki and Hisashi. :)

  • i am happy and feel lucky to hear you, clap ^_^

  • i am happy and feel lucky to hear you, clap ^_^

  • So sad...and so beautyfull at the same time

  • who the girl from 1:03 ?

  • @ThePeterhillier spirit...

  • @loveobug123 I think it's a type of zither, like a classical chinese one.

  • at @1:38 what's the red dress lady playing?

  • @loveobug123 it's called Gu Zheng

  • I love Mononoke-hime!!! ;3333

  • The Qin and Erhu add such a nice touch!

  • There is something about the violin I don't like. Maybe his intonation.

    I play the violin myself.

  • What is that instrument at 0:56 ?

  • @SicNexVenit it is a chinese instrument called the Er Hu.

  • @SicNexVenit er hu

  • This is beautiful beyond words

  • i want become like Joe Hisaishi.. making this kind of music.. and i'll start it today!!

  • Music have a soul, too

  • ugh, the violin is so overpowering, even during the lady playing guzheng's solo-ish section, he completely engulfed her sound making this not as enjoyable to the featured chinese instruments as it could have been

  • @chibiboy557 i agree. i hate the way the violinist try to overpower everything because it's making the sound unbalance! was it only me? coz i think joe himself is not so content with the outcome of the piece.. LOL but then, the music has ways of capturing one's soul!! :))

  • @ricachu0125 it could be that they don't know. i don't see any monitors and balancing is much harder with out them.

  • beautiful

  • If I could draw, paint, or do anything beautiful as this, I'd be God himself.

  • what is the name of that beautiful chinese instrument?

  • @PianoGhibli erhu

  • @izglory2 thanks ^^

  • @PianoGhibli

    古筝,guzheng

    koto

  • @Doat876 ahh thank you it is so amazing :O

  • @PianoGhibli it's usually called the "two stringed violin" a common far east instrument. Erhu is the way the Chinese call it.

  • @skyesfallin It has a beautiful tone - it does sound very familiar. Far eastern music is so amazing ^^

  • @PianoGhibli it is familiar because it is from "princess mononoke", the hayao miyazaki film about the girl raised by wolves. it's the song that plays a couple of times throughout the movie. I agree, it's very beautiful

  • @MegatronTarantulas Yes, I know the film very well and I love this piece so much, it's one of my favourites of Hisashi's Ghibli works (I meant that the instrument sounds familiar). Hayao Miyazaki is a pure genius in my opinion!

  • the chinese elements are adding spice to the whole. so proud of it!!

  • is it just me or does the violinist sound really flat? I love everything else though

  • the violinist isn't playing delicately enough and it's overwhelming the rest of it and overwhelming me. i can't even focus, he is so distracting. plus his intonation is whack. :(

  • Oh hey, I didnt realize there were chinese instruments in this.

  • I thought this was the Mononoke Hime theme song, not Ashitaka Sekki (Legend of Ashitaka)?...

  • ;_;

  • there's no need for words here <3333

  • I bad in english so i write in polish:

To jest zajebiste , doskonałe, i cholernie mi się podoba...

  • Music like this is the reason I would rather lose my eye sight than my ability to hear. Can't live without music, especially stuff as beautiful as this =).

  • @wes8424 My dear sir, I totally agree...

  • @wes8424 agreed~ :D

  • @wes8424 definitely. i live music. i try to write stuff as beautiful as this, but cannot! oh well, im still young :)

japanese anime music is so beautiful and heartfelt <3

  • @wes8424 i agree. but then how would you be able to witness hayao miyazaki's beautiful masterpieces? 8/

  • @foreveranimegirl2008 yeah that would suck huh? lol well tough call but music is also a big part of why those movies are good too. In any case it's good that we don't have to choose right? lol

  • I think Princess Mononoke was the first movie to ever provoke a truly emotional response. Partly attributed to such a fantastic film, but it couldn't have been completed without this amazing music.
