Wow. Jack loves Gwen so much. You can see that here. And it's interesting that after he tells her that Rhys loves her while they are dancing, Jack and Gwen get lost in each other and keep dancing while staring at each other. And they both do not even notice Ianto at first when he comes up to them. It's like Jack and Gwen can only see each other. Why can't the writers get Jack and Gwen finally together?

Actually i think by 'the hero always gets the girl', he is accepting that as someone who has to make hard, sometimes cruel decisions, he can never be the traditional 'good guy' that Rhys is and so is distancing himself from Gwen who he knows he could hurt and who deserves someone more stable ie Rhys

Rhys can and will love Gwen even though he has to share her with the world. Ianto's love for Jack is the same. Rhys and Ianto give Gwen and Jack the unconditional, unquestioning, grounded love that they need, so they can be the heroes that they are.

On another note, I think Rhys really was the hero in that scene with the shape shifter. A hero doesn't neccessarily conquer - he doesn't have Jack's ability to come back to life - he risked his own for Gwen.

OK here's my take.

First, I am a Janto fan.

However, anyone can see that Jack and Gwen love each other. Certainly Ianto sees it.

But I think Jack and Gwen are too similar to be a couple - they are both heros, both have emmense love for the world, both are passionate and impulsive...and they both need someone in their life who loves them only.

Gwen could never have Jack's heart completely, nor could Jack have Gwen's - they both have to give so much love to others.

Actually all these things people are picking up on the emotion I felt was the strongest in that scene was Jack dancing with Ianto, and the feeling I got was him clinging to Ianto and begging the poor guy in his head to keep him grounded. Solid. Sane. XD How weird is that? LOL.

Also, in the first scene, when Jack is wondering why they have their wedding in the middle of nowhere, and suggests inner conflict, I think he's WISHING that's what it is. And Ianto's retort is HIS wish that Jack wouldn't wish that Gwen didn't have inner conflict about marrying Rhys, no? hahaha! And Owen is just funny :D I didn't like him that much in s1, but in s2 my opinion has changed. Quite dramatically, actually! Rhys is such an angry soul, why would you wanna marry him anyway? JACK'S HOT.
