I think the thought JK Rowling put into HP goes far beyond the stealing of ideas from a lesser series of books. She spent 5 years prior to completing the first book creating the world and basic outline of the series. And anyway, its not about the initial idea, its what you do with it that counts- cite book sales...

People should know Rowling didn't invent the idea of the school for wizards (it exists since Earthsea in the 60's) and should stop being overprised by supposed originality... also, if she is not ripping off this why HB and Snape teach the same subject???

@n0t3t The fact that boarding schools and potions teachers have similarities between the two doesn't mean it's "ripping off" Beginning by the pure essence of magic between the two worlds. Besides, HB is really strict, and Snape is nasty (not including other things -_-) Also, there are some discrepancies regarding the logic in WW, not counting magic of course, it's like everyone has a moment of stupidity (sheer and unrealistic) just to accommodate the plot in the episode.

I still love WW anyway

And yes, I have also seen the similarities between the two worlds, but then again, there is always going to be similarities between fantasy and supernatural fiction. Not long ago I saw a book in the library about fairies, but I'm not going to think it's a rip off of tinkerbell just because of that.

Its not like JK Rowling copied everything from the worst witch. Look in any school in the world, there is always a teacher like Hardbroom/Snape and always students like Ethel and Drusilla, its like Hipmister 3000 says, its inspiration =)

I agree i have said pretty much the same yeah the mean student at a school always has a few other students who want tl be with the mean kid so not to be the victim and the worst witch needs hardbroom and Ethel to be against her other wise she wouldn't be that interesting a hero not winning against stuff

Harry Potter is nothing like the worst witch at all. The only similarities are that there is a hero, and that they are magical, and that it's about a school where everyone has friends and enimies.

Hardbroom is just strict.

Snape was just filled with hatred and loathing becuase of his deatheater past. And he disliked Harry becuase of what his father did to him.

Harry Potter is far more complicated than the worst witch, the worst witch is a lot more innocent.
