I learned a lot, just putting in the half-hour a day for a couple weeks, and it's all still there, 2 years later. Course, I got it free, and the only reason I stopped was because my microphone broke and I'm too cheap to get a new one, but come on. I didn't learn Spanish that well, from living in Texas.
@SchizoFilms To clarify, I was learning Japanese, and my Japanese was better than my Spanish, even though I've lived in Texas all my life, and have known countless Spanish-speakers.
This is honestly the stupidest argument I have ever heard in my life. Of course "the apple is green" is not useful in real world applications. However, take any introductory level course of any language on the planet and they will teach you sentences like that. Why?...because it starts you off on the path toward proper sentence structure. "The apple is green" has a noun, a verb, and an adjective. Knowing how to employ these basic concepts of language is KEY in being able to speak it.
Just wanted to say that her argument is flawed.. First let me start off by saying that she has a biased point of view since she is employed by "language wrangler." #1 you have to start some where and from the beginning, (you have walk before you run). #2 Rosetta stone teaches all the languages the same way? Do babies not learn their first language the same way?? #3 Rosetta Stone absolutely "helps your brain to think in another language." The course is speaking and instructs in the new langu
Yet I learned Japanese which includes all my hirigana katakana and kanji o.0? and also theres rosetta stone on the iphone XD obviously it doesn't teach you every word but if you really want to LEARN a language you take it to more extreme measures XD I listen to japanese music read japanese books and also study! I love rosette stone but I also refer back to my english to japanese dictionary..... you can't expect the software to do imprint this into your head you have to have the attention span!!
i started with level 5 and it was pretty good,i went to school in usa for 2 months in level 3 and rosetta was very good for me,i understand english but my pronuntiation is my weakness,so rosetta let me check how i sound and i can fix it,is not a bad software.
2. Can put on anything I want with cracked version.
3. Can take the basics I learned on Rosetta Stone, get on german chat forums and learn the "Real skills" she says the program lacks. Got some books at my library for less than $10 to read novels in German.
My technology is the exception to what you say is a lack in technology.
Ive herd this opinion a few times now and i feel i need to mention something. Ok. of course you may never in your life need to say "the apple is green", "the boy eats" etc. but i think the point to the software is to give examples so then you can ADAPT the sentances using these core skills you learn. Its oviouse its not going to script out your whole life of things you are going to say because thats impossible, and also not really learning either. Dont expect it to spoon feed you.
I understand this is your personal point of view but please get your facts right before forming said opinion. Point 4 is wrong. You are able to install Rosetta Stone on a couple of laptops / PC's etc within your own home. Also, there are iPhone and iPad apps available.
I would agree with a few things you say regarding how the language is "taught" however you're pretty much explaining the same point in a number of different ways.
Personally, I use software by Berlitz and their approach is one through immersion and practice. One thing I do like about it is that it comes with about 4 extra disks that I can load onto an MP3 Player or my smartphone and take with me anywhere
Good video but I think you may being missing the point. Rosetta Stone software is something you buy so you can teach yourself. No one, whether by means of computer or classroom can think for you. Nor should they tell you how to think for yourself. Learning a new language can be very difficult and RS has come up with a way to, like you said, teach all languages the same. Personally I have had language classes in the classroom and by means of software. Nothing beats being in a classroom.
I hope the suggestion that you are offering include the ability to take the software to your car or other mobile abilities. Is this just another advertisement for a different language software?
Education is the responsibility of the student. Get through all 5 levels first, and your opinion may change. Practice was easy for me, as well, Houston has alot of latinos :p and my girlfriend grew up in colombia. I have a learning disorder and managed to learn more in a year than I expected to. Attitude, effort, perseverance.
Also...not to encourage piracy but, I didn't pay for levels 2-5 :o
I respect your opinion, although I am led to believe that you did not complete all 5 levels, and possibly may not of completed level 1.
Learning a new language takes EFFORT, PATIENCE and FOLLOW-THROUGH. You are not going to learn it overnight, or in a week, or a month. While it does not explain grammar usage, which is a weakness, you can download the course content for each lesson in all levels on the support page. Its a good resource to help review, and recognize patterns.
I agree with nearly everything you have to say. But Rosetta Stone is for long term language use and to help make it easier to become fluent instead of translating things in your head through traditional language classes. Version 3 of Rosetta Stone was technologically out of date, but their recent update of TOTALe Version 4 is nothing short of phenomenal. Their studio sessions with native speakers are fun and the games make it a little easier to find study time everyday.
I totally agree with you! I tried rosetta stone to learn french and it was sooo boring. I have found lots more helpful videos on youtube that are FREE and much more helpful. I am currently learning French and Korean from youtube videos:)
hello???? they've got CD and mp3 version too! you're the outdated one. i think you're lame and your opinions are unfair. so, how many languages do you fluently speak????
What the hell am I supposed to do then. I want to learn a language, and apparently there are only shit methods out there. I wouldn't listen to any trash that comes out of this lady's mouth.
I wonder if she's even tried Rosetta Stone.. It doesn't sound like she has any firsthand knowledge of the software.. Also about "The apple is green." and whatnot.. How did we learn how to speak English? How do children of immigrants teach their parents English? By sitting down with a book teaching us conjugations of verbs? Nope. They were _immersed_ in the language and slowly absorbed the information. It's what works most naturally.
@thegrooviestthing Je suis d'accord avec vous, je suis anglais mais j'utilise Rosetta Stone pour apprendre le français et le japonais. Il m'aide beaucoup!!
So this was a 4 minute long commercial where this lady markets her website. I'm sure if she had a billion dollars, we'd be seeing her ads on the television as well. Get the software on an auction based website if your so worried about your bank account.
Do not criticize one business and their whole range of products, because when you consider the words coming from your mouth, every one of them is disrespecting a successful product and business. I agree with cameronmichaelchase. At the beginning of this you directly thump the product by explaining in a vague explanation why not to purchase and why it is a "mistake". You also comment that the product is "outdated", when you should consider the variety of how people learn skills is wild range.
(continued from the comment below) Not only that but you don't have to study at all, in fact studying hurts your language learning abilities. The reason is because the ability to learn languages is embedded into our minds, so we naturally pick it up fast. If you treat it like math or science or history your brain will treat it like that, and thus in order to learn every little bit, I.E. every word and phrase, you will have to study as much as you would have to for math or history or science.
Rosetta Stone is a decent software for language learning, though I do agree it's severely overpriced. But really if you want to start speaking another language quickly I recommend Pimsleur. It's all audio and it's taught the way a child learns, which means you learn just as fast if not faster than a child can. Plus it's fluency oriented and you don't even need to study. I've used Pimsleur Japanese for about a week now and I've learned more Japanese then over 2 years of classes.
As I am watching this, there is a an ad for Rosetta Stone right next to your video. Marketing win
More importantly however, if you really consider yourself an expert in language, then you should understand exactly what RS's process and teaching style is. While a full immersion method may not be perfect for all situations, it has a lot of benefits that should be easy to see.
If you're really going to just sit there and bash the entire program, you're either ignorant or just jealous it's not yours
nothing makes you think in a different language but yourself. To expect that from any program is absurd.
Learning 'the apple is green' etc. is absolutely essential to build your foundation. You have to build your vocabulary and rosetta stone helps.
It comes with an audio companion for you to put on your ipod, in your car etc. You can buy it online and access it from anywhere on other computers as well. You can also speak with native speakers through the program.
@backwardsnamestaken ... and for clarification on the online access and straight from the rosetta stone website "Explore every aspect of our proven solution using our entirely online subscription service. With this complete set of levels, you'll start at the basics and build towards conversational mastery, without the need for CD-ROM discs, downloads, or installations. Simply connect to the internet and start learning."... and you can access the internet on any computer that is connected.
Sorry, but I can't agree with the video. I guess RS works perfectly for beginners who are eager to pick up the basic parts of the target language. It goes without saying that you won't become fluent by clicking on images and doing simple exercises. However, it can be powerful if you wanna know lots of nouns, because you can naturally associate meaning of new words with what u see in the picture.
omg your not making any sense. Rosetta stone teaches beginners the basics to be able to say certain phrases and be able to get the accent correct by using the easy retarded pointlless words that you wont use out in the world. You can also connect with people all around the world to talk to them with the language your trying to learn. It also allows you to advance based on your mastery of the language your learning. the only point you havbe is it is expensive
TO IMPROVE YOUR FOREIGN LANGUAGE YOU HAVE TO TALK TO GIRLS.. THEY ARE TALKATIVENESS CREATURES... THEY TALK AND TALK AND TALK AND TALK.. ENDLESS TALKING
I agree with her message.. Whether she is promoting a product in addition to, life and business is about putting out better products than the competition.
From someone (myself) who experienced RS, I can confirm that their system does not help you understand grammatical structure of languages or rules. You are provided with images and words, and clearly unable to really understand what are verbs, adjectives etc.
your "verb congregations" like how they teach you in school wont help you think in another language JUST ASK THE PEOPLE WHO TOOK another language in school oh and the simple things like "the apple is green" is just the very basics of rs but this dumb broad wouldn't know cuz she probably never got past level 1 unit 1 LOL trust me rs works and i speak 4 languages so i would know and I'm currently on my 5th. No wonder why u have so many dislikes on this vid lmfao
Bam!!! they updated it so you can have conversations with people that are native to the language, plus they have games(dont really get why) they updated wverything you mentioned...execpt the price. no seriously though try the demo and do another review cuz i want to know if it is really worth it.
Thanks for living 10 years ago. Rosetta can go with you anywhere, on your phone or mp3 player... Yes, even to the library. But then again, Exxon people trash Bp gasoline. Why would we listen to you trashing someone?
Im learning Japanese, and I already have a pretty good understandung, and I watch Anime without subs to better hone in my words, the Japanese rosetta stone really focuses on the kanji and what not
It's not just Rosetta Stone - language software in general is pretty useless when trying to learn a language. There are others (Instant Immersion and Pimsleur, for example) that have the same problems you listed, but you only bashed Rosetta Stone. And you promoted your own company, which suggests bias. :( The best way to learn a language IMHO is to use as many different resources as possible - books, podcasts, websites, and possibly some software to SUPPLEMENT your learning.
Explain to me how a CD is technologically outdated? I wasn't aware we had anything more advanced than a CD. And, RS comes with audio companion which allows you to put it on an mp3, ipod or your phone to listen to on the go. You failed to form a coherent argument in spite of promoting your own piece of shit product. RS IS expensive, however, you can find torrents of just about any of the available languages on the internet.
usted es un mando completo. this is the best way to learn a language you bell end. just like when you were a baby....der. i have been studying spanish for two years now by the guru michel thomas but fancied a change and rosetta stone is really good. the only thing i agree with you is the price....well overcharged
I agree, Rosetta Stone is a very boring, very EXPENSIVE game which, as a passive result, makes you more familiar with a language. You only "learn" how to get better at Rosetta Stone. It can prepare you to truly learn a language, but it is not the end-all, be-all of language-learning. Download it for free from thepiratebay and try it out, you'll see what she's talking about.
I disagree. Rosetta gives you a big headstart in learning a new language. The only way to become fluent is by actually interacting with speakers of the language. Rosetta Stone speeds you through the the cumbersome period of learning and retaining initial vocabulary. It is a brilliant software, plus, your website took forever to load, was unclear on what you offer and appears to only offer spanish. Intead of bringing others down, work to bring yourself up. that is how you succeed.
@ the Mandazor: did you watch the video completely? She's plugging her own product you troll. Of course there are cheaper alternatives. It's like people who can't afford an iPhone and buy a CRAPberry.
Thank you! You are so correct. Rosetta Stone is a huge waste of money. There are so many online resources for free that are so much better. Honestly, I feel sorry for people who spend that much for such a silly product.
Rosetta Stone expensive? I have the program, and the languages: French, Russian, German, English (British and American) And even the Audio companions for all the languages, and I have not paid any cent for it.
If you are agree, I can send you the link for the txt with all the links with the program and the languages, and everybody who wants the program can request it too.
Living proof Rosetta Stone works and I must say, this is an unbiased point of view. I tell all my current language partners if they have the money to invest in Rosetta Stone they should do it. Trash this video. The girl is totally misinformed
For everyone else, don't listen to this peon. She has the functional IQ of a groundhog. Rosetta Stone is amazing. I am a Canadian, born and raised. But I do participate in language exchanges quite frequently. I have met over 50 people during my language exchanges. The four people I mentioned previously have all come from Korea where the language structure is not even close to our English language. Within months they were able to read, write and speak proficiently. .
please change the colour of your hair. You have no clue of what you speak. I have seen first hand, on four separate occasions, students who have come here from abroad use Rosetta Stone English and have become very proficient in the language. I think you need to maybe take the lessons yourself... start from lesson one - you need it. Trust me.
Stop with the rosetta stone crap people. Rosetta stone is good... IF, you want to not be fluent at the end of it and have spent of 300 dollars. I speak 5 languages and became fluent in 3 on my own, the other two were natural. fluent in Japanese Chinese and French. Did it all ONLINE!! FREE.1 year for japanese 9 months fo chinese, 2 years for french. I study differntly though, my studies were 75% lyrics, (studied off of music). even made a website out of if asiabymusic, com. DONT EVER SPEND MONEY
pretty much all of that are changed...it is now on iphone, there are 50 minute sessions with natives, you have to speak in realistic conversations and there are grammar units and there is a version that can be bought online and everything is online and that is only 300 dollars for a year and for all 5 levels..frankly the only thing outdated at the moment is this video, lady. Salut! :p
No explanation of grammar...lots of frustration with it! I was hoping the software would at least help my pronunciations -and they let you use huge mistakes.
My issue with this video is that you're trashing one company while promoting your own, so I can't help but think that you to lack credibility. I think the only thing I agreed with in this video is that RS is expensive.
@cameronmichaelchase yeah, the whole thing about RS being too expensive sucks. thats why i use pimsulur approach. its 20 bucks and is on sale for 10 bucks right now. its audio and all you do is listen for 30 min a day, for 10 days. i knew no Spanish at all, but now i can communicate with my Spanish friend :D
I tried French Rosetta Stone. I will admit, it took me several tries to master the lessons and you are right, it was very hard to even communicate simple ideas with others. However, it does help you write in the target language and that is helpful. What I did is I also bought Pimsleur French levels 1-3 and now I can speak almost advanced French within 2 years. I study every day and also listen to French Radio and Movies. Pimsleur is simply amazing.
Michel Thomas is defiantly the way to go people. Don't listen to anyone else aha. I don't work for Michel Thomas. I am 12 year old who stumbled upon Michel's program. I thank God every day I found it. Ich kann jezt gut Deutsch sprechen. I can now speak good German. And I haven't even finished the beginners course! Try it. Or at least search it you got nothing to lose! Search it on youtube!
@TheOsnapitzKat Michel Thomas is a language teacher who is probably the best. Look him up on Youtube or on the internet! He has programs for the ipod or computer or anything else that plays a cd! He ll teach you grammar with out you trying look him up!
OMG! I just checked a website to see how much Rosetta Stone costs, £379!!!!! I bought a language course for £10 and it is brilliant! It has real conversations with people, teaches you correct grammar and has a variety of different activities. I cannot believe how much Rosetta Stone costs!
it really depends on the level. rosetta stone tries to be like a swiss army knife, altho it works fine to a some extent for other languages that are far from english, it doesn't work well like that.
They have to admit it's for businessmen, for people who want to do it quick and start as soon as they can.
Rosetta stone does suck. I know this for a fact as a second language speaker. My first language is Japanese and my ESL teacher made me use this software to learn English. I think there were like 3 or 4 levels. The hardest phrase I learned was "Would you like a piece of cake? Yes, I would." I'm assuming they made it this easy for every other language as well. Totally not worth the money. If you wanna learn a language, go outside and get some real experiences with native speakers. Life isnt easy.
Ok, maybe for some Rosetta Stone is great and for others, its not good enough.
Learn which ever way you can, just DON'T ONLY USE 1 METHOD!!! As some people pointed out (unconfirmed) Rosetta Stone had tabemasu (I eat/I'm eating) and tabemasen (I will not eat/I won't eat) listed differently.
So you know which way is correct, find a second method to compare what you're learning with Rosetta Stone.
I used 4 methods to learn Japanese. :) I completed 2 and using the other 2 now (none Rosetta). :)
I tried it... it has the worst recordings... can't understand a damn thing the person says. Also the words they tried to teach in it were kindergarten words. My gf just laughed when she saw the material lol so she's teaching me now instead.
RosettaStone isnt that bad...i found a site wich offers the amster collection for free:
w w w rosettastoneforfree..info...the advertisement was on another rosetatstone video. Its the full version and free to download...check it first you have nothing to lose!
@christineL32 Your attitude is immature towards someone who points out legitimate flaws in Rosetta Stone. The program may be valuable in acquiring vocabulary, but as one who speaks 5 languages, I know that as in Arabic, grammatical/syntactical nuances are essential. To truly learn a language, real world experience, particularly with dialect use, is the only way to master them. I doubt you could converse with a native speaker in Spanish or Arabic. Get off this girl's back.

And what do you gain from this?
cpmcsr42 1 month ago
(continued from the comment below) Not only that but you don't have to study at all, in fact studying hurts your language learning abilities. The reason is because the ability to learn languages is embedded into our minds, so we naturally pick it up fast. If you treat it like math or science or history your brain will treat it like that, and thus in order to learn every little bit, I.E. every word and phrase, you will have to study as much as you would have to for math or history or science.
Thatguywiththelaptop 1 month ago

You can also speak with native speakers through the program.
backwardsnamestaken 1 month ago
@backwardsnamestaken ... and for clarification on the online access and straight from the rosetta stone website "Explore every aspect of our proven solution using our entirely online subscription service. With this complete set of levels, you'll start at the basics and build towards conversational mastery, without the need for CD-ROM discs, downloads, or installations. Simply connect to the internet and start learning."... and you can access the internet on any computer that is connected.
backwardsnamestaken 1 month ago
Sorry, but I can't agree with the video. I guess RS works perfectly for beginners who are eager to pick up the basic parts of the target language. It goes without saying that you won't become fluent by clicking on images and doing simple exercises. However, it can be powerful if you wanna know lots of nouns, because you can naturally associate meaning of new words with what u see in the picture.
Vanadium555 1 month ago
omg your not making any sense.

PrincessAirionna565 1 month ago
Explain to me how a CD is technologically outdated? I wasn't aware we had anything more advanced than a CD. And, RS comes with audio companion which allows you to put it on an mp3, ipod or your phone to listen to on the go. You failed to form a coherent argument in spite of promoting your own piece of shit product. RS IS expensive, however, you can find torrents of just about any of the available languages on the internet.

Download it for free from thepiratebay and try it out, you'll see what she's talking about.
nathanpiazza 1 month ago

Within months they were able to read, write and speak proficiently. .
deeveeuss 1 month ago
please change the colour of your hair. You have no clue of what you speak. I have seen first hand, on four separate occasions, students who have come here from abroad use Rosetta Stone English and have become very proficient in the language. I think you need to maybe take the lessons yourself... start from lesson one - you need it. Trust me.
deeveeuss 1 month ago
Stop with the rosetta stone crap people. Rosetta stone is good... IF, you want to not be fluent at the end of it and have spent of 300 dollars. I speak 5 languages and became fluent in 3 on my own, the other two were natural. fluent in Japanese Chinese and French. Did it all ONLINE!! FREE.1 year for japanese 9 months fo chinese, 2 years for french. I study differntly though, my studies were 75% lyrics, (studied off of music). even made a website out of if asiabymusic, com. DONT EVER SPEND MONEY
ByMay9th 1 month ago
pretty much all of that are changed...it is now on iphone, there are 50 minute sessions with natives, you have to speak in realistic conversations and there are grammar units and there is a version that can be bought online and everything is online and that is only 300 dollars for a year and for all 5 levels..frankly the only thing outdated at the moment is this video, lady. Salut! :p

Pimsleur is simply amazing.

it really depends on the level. rosetta stone tries to be like a swiss army knife, altho it works fine to a some extent for other languages that are far from english, it doesn't work well like that.

Life isnt easy.
renski1792 1 month ago
Ok, maybe for some Rosetta Stone is great and for others, its not good enough.
Learn which ever way you can, just DON'T ONLY USE 1 METHOD!!! As some people pointed out (unconfirmed) Rosetta Stone had tabemasu (I eat/I'm eating) and tabemasen (I will not eat/I won't eat) listed differently.
So you know which way is correct, find a second method to compare what you're learning with Rosetta Stone.
I used 4 methods to learn Japanese. :) I completed 2 and using the other 2 now (none Rosetta). :)
