Well, yes there is. It depends on how close you are sitting to the TV! I've got a 720p TV, 32", and I sit like 1-1,2 meters from it. My friend came over with a 24" 1080p TV, and it was a much better display, I could see very, very small details that were blurred out on the 720p TV. So, you're wrong there I guess.
