Tosin is a phenomenal player, one of the best right now. The sweep he performs here is not easy at all. I can guarantee there is not a single person alive who can do this sweep who doesn't appreciate it's demand of technical skill. And like I said, this clip is just a scratch on the surface of Tosin's capabilities. Look up this actual song, other songs, and interviews of him explaining his music then come back and tell me he's a terrible musician.
And this video barely shows what Tosin is capable of. I recommend you look up him explaining his music. In one, he explains his patterns which are incredibly complex. More than any I've ever seen. Patterns I don't see anyone else doing. It's not about being the most technical or fundamental, it's about being creative. Tosin has an incredibly unique (and factually technical) approach to music, which is why we like him. Others are just doing the same old rock/metal routine, which is getting old.
And maybe Tosin isn't looking to be the next best thing. He's just playing what he loves to play. That's what we should all play music for. Not proving we're the best. If we do that, we get punks like this who think it's about being the most technically skilled and showing the world that. Complexity is relative, maybe in some absolute terms of what a guitarist can do, this particular display isn't as complex as it could be. However anyone that is being even remotely honest can recognize his ability, and one video is a small sample size to make judgements about him.

@clanbigger4 I do understand music. My friends son is well versed in all styles (he's in school for it) and explains to me every thing I'm not sure of so I have all my bases covered. He has a loose structure of modes but at times he takes liberty in placement of said notes (and few being borrowed from others).
labeling, it's simply genre. 95% of sub genres in metal today are, in reality, genres. Its not just music, it's a specific type of music, regardless of people liking it or not. A person in Africa with a percussion instrument is music as well, does that help distinguish between music to find what you like or describe what you like to other musicians? No, because you need genres and sub genres, especially in modern metal.

Tosin is a phenomenal player, one of the best right now. The sweep he performs here is not easy at all. I can guarantee there is not a single person alive who can do this sweep who doesn't appreciate it's demand of technical skill. And like I said, this clip is just a scratch on the surface of Tosin's capabilities. Look up this actual song, other songs, and interviews of him explaining his music then come back and tell me he's a terrible musician.

And this video barely shows what Tosin is capable of. I recommend you look up him explaining his music. In one, he explains his patterns which are incredibly complex. More than any I've ever seen. Patterns I don't see anyone else doing. It's not about being the most technical or fundamental, it's about being creative. Tosin has an incredibly unique (and factually technical) approach to music, which is why we like him. Others are just doing the same old rock/metal routine, which is getting old.

Complexity is relative, maybe in some absolute terms of what a guitarist can do, this particular display isn't as complex as it could be. @024leoj Well since the first cascading arpeggio is based onn a CMAJ7 adding an F# too, its C lydian obviously since F# is the 4th degree of C lydian..then the next few sweep patterns are B Maj and C augmented...since it was a B Maj arpeggio, a Eb is in there, thus making it B Phrygian dominant..im guessing the tapping is the same, i dont know how to play the tapping part..stop thinkin you know shit old man, you aint shit..check my channel out to see how much i really know on guitar lmao

EVH was good, to a degree, but there's just no comparison. Right now, Tosin plays with a virtuosity and ease I haven't seen in a long time (possibly ever). Give him 10 years, and he'll play with virtuosity as well as mature musicality.
