I think it is far to say that the people that don't understand what she is doing are not to a high level of any type of competition riding. Therefore, for what they do not understand they love to voice their ignorant opinion.....

He was 2 and a half when she bought him and brought him to her home in Erp. :) There she discovered his talent for the higher dressage and trained him TOGETHER with Sjef Janssen.

She rides with a vice like grip/contact on the curb - this is not beneficial for the horse and creates conflict behaviours as a result. She rides without any empathy or natural feeling. Dressage should be about creating submission in the horse from the lightest of aids to encourage self carriage. I think the horse would fall on it's nose and sigh in relief if she let go! She uses horse as objects for her own needs and desires.
@jjclimb69 Amen to that. Three cheers for iron hand Anky. Maybe someone should take the damn reins away and ask her to perform like this. Put the horse in a simple snaffle and ask her to do this, she wouldn't be able to because she hasn't created submission. It's a shame that the dressage world allows this.
@MagnoliaDreaming You don't ride dressage I take it? Lower levels are done in a simple snaffle. Pelham bits are not allowed. Watch her horse... he is reaching for contact with the bit. I can only dream of being so good. A good video for you to watch is Cowboy Dressage... amazing. If only all western riders had so much talent.

A good dressage horse and rider should be able to perform at this level with no tack as well as with a simple snaffle if the horse is trained correctly. A full bridle is not necessary to train your horse to do this, its only necessary to compete on your horse at this level. Anky relies on the curb entirely too much, did you bother to read jjclimb's comment? Cowboy dressage is amazing, but your comment on western riders applies...

@1946foxcroft If you judge her ability simply by the amount of salivation that the horse is producing then you are blind and ignorant to the other signs in the video that show how heavily she relies on the curb to keep her horse's head down. Every video I've seen of her she has a vice grip on the curb; even if the horse is accepting all of this bit action that doesn't mean it's right. I'd much rather see this done without her constant curb pressure holding the horse down...
@MagnoliaDreaming I totally agree, When I was a kid I loved her, but then when I got older and learned more and more about horses and riding, I realised she wasn't all that great. Sure, the performance is simply stunning, but the way she treats her horses isn't at all that great...

Continued... On the other hand, you've done a nice job with the transitions (except for the walk to canter transition), just look for some more varying and emotional music though and you've got some good potential!

Man achte auf die relaxte Haltung des Pferdes. Das hat rein garnichts mit Rollkur zu tun, wie du, sselkub, es so schön nennst. -.- Dieses Pferd steht perfeckt auf der Senkrechten. Wie es sein soll. Die Ohren relaxt, was man in der Dressur heutzutage eher selten sieht. Weder verklemmt noch angespannt. Harmonie. Solche Leute die keine Ahnung haben sollten einfach den Mund halten!

Ditto with Equimovemaster! Anyone who criticizes Anky should be aware of her history with Bonfire. Bonfire was originally a very tense, frightened difficult horse. Anky worked patiently with him to become one of the most famous and popular teams in teams in the world. A lot of horses who need LDR, or to be ridden deep, are those w/ tension and fear. If they stay extra round, they slowly relax.
Lovely video. She is one of the greatest. So far, I have seen people say that Western Pleasure, Hunt Seat, Dressage, Reining, Gaited, Penning and other Rodeo Sports, Cart Work, Racing, and Jumping were all cruel! In my mind, each has its proper place, and the only real cruel thing is those drunk idiots who run their horses to death every Sat. bouncing on their backs and getting in their mouths. But the real idiots are the ones who put comments degrading others and their work on a public site.
@Cartinka1704 you obviously know nothing about horses. these animals used to live in herds in the wild, where a leading mare guided the whole herd. theoretically, one has to take the role of the leading mare, and gain the horse's trust. once that is acheived, the horse actually enjoys being ridden and specially this well. it's true that many schools of riding have cruel methods, but dressage is the art of total beauty and enjoyment of both horse and rider.

Anky rijdt op Olympisch niveau. De jury en mensen die er werken bij zo'n hoog dressuur niveau weten het beter dan ons. als anky een rollkur zo gebruiken zouden ze dat daar ook zeggen en dan had je ook nooit de Olypische spelen 3x gewonnen. en mensen die zeggen dat Bonfire beweegt als een robot , kijken niet echt goed. Het paard beweegt niet als een robot, zijn bewegingen zijn soepel.
bei der hankenbiegung "beugt" das pferd seine hinterbeine mehr. die hinterbeine tretenmehr unter den schwerpunkt des pferdes. das becken wird mehr abgekippt und der rücken wölbt sich auf.

@666gadreel Maybe, but you have to admit there are *good* ways of rolling the horse up and *bad.* Rollkur is one of the bad, because it creates an unhealthy amount of tension or stretch in the back. Anky also tends to be very tough on the mouth of her horses. :x I used to be a big fan, but then I learned more about horses.

I'm sorry, I just have to say look at Bonfire's ears. They're forward and floppy, meaning he's quite relaxed and happy, which I think is one of the best things to see in dressage, it reiterates the whole concept of harmony, and his actual movements are quite fluid and relaxed too. They wouldn't be like that if he wasn't happy and there wasn't harmony between horse and rider.

You don't have to get shirty about it. I'm well aware of what sometimes goes on behind closed doors with this level of dressage, I was simply commenting on the test itself. I whole heartedly agree with the your thoughts on the rollkur and I think it a extremely harsh, unnatural method of training but I was unaware that Anky used such a method, as I follow the eventing world more than the dressage, and I do not advocate Anky's use of it at all.

In case some people do not know--- ALOT of western training includes more than its fair share of dressage dicipline - If you " 9yrhunterjumper" knew anything at all about western riding you might want to retract your statement about western riders being "freaks"---

Believe me, I am the first one to defend mistreated or abused horses, and I have always opposed cruel practices (which by the way are FORBIDDEN by the FEI). Please, If you know nothing about the subject, you should't criticize people who are passionate for horses, love them, and ride them for a living.

Das arme Tier geht mit dem Kopf häufig schon hinter der Senkrechten. Nachdem ich gesehen habe, wie diese Frau mit ihrem Pferd umgeht, will ich die nicht mehr sehen und bin sehr für eine wesentlich längere Sperre, als sie bis jetzt vorgeschlagen wurde!!!

ich glaube du hast keine Ahnung! Is ja alles schön gut, wenn das ACH so harmonisch aussieht deine Meinung nach, aber wer sein Pferd auf dem Abreiteplatz mit Rollkur reiten und ihm dadurch unzumutbare Schmerzen zufügt ist für mich keine toller Reiter. Egal wer Pferde quält hat kein Recht auf Tunieren zu reiten. Deine Antwort zeugt von riesem großem Unverständnis und einer Verblendung!!!

Dressuur is idd moeilijk toen ik 12 was duurde het bij mij anderhalve maand voordat ik het wijken echt goed goed onde knie had! Ik zie Anky van Grunven elk jaar op CHIO @ ROTTERDAM! Echt onwijs geweldig.

'met paarden ben je nooit uitgeleerd' en dat betreft ook Anky.. anky kan ook nog heel veel dingen leren. Ik rijd zelf ook Dressuur dat doe ik nu 10 jaar maar dat betekent niet dat je gelijk al 30 paarden naar de Z kunt rijden..

Eigenlijk vind ik de mensen die zeggen dat Anky verkeerd rijd enz. een beetje raar.
Anky rijdt op Olympisch niveau. De jury en mensen die er werken bij zo'n hoog dressuur niveau weten het beter dan ons. als anky een rollkur zo gebruiken zouden ze dat daar ook zeggen en dan had je ook nooit de Olypische spelen 3x gewonnen. en mensen die zeggen dat Bonfire beweegt als een robot , kijken niet echt goed. Het paard beweegt niet als een robot, zijn bewegingen zijn soepel.

bei der hankenbiegung "beugt" das pferd seine hinterbeine mehr. die hinterbeine tretenmehr unter den schwerpunkt des pferdes. das becken wird mehr abgekippt und der rücken wölbt sich auf.

I understand what you are saying. And I don't say I'm a big fan of rollkür, but think of this:
She isn't some kind of beginner. So she's got a lot of horse sense ( or rider sense or whatever). And when a physiotherapist treats a horse they roll them up as well.....
But let me say it again: It's not that I'm a big fan of rollkür!!

@666gadreel Maybe, but you have to admit there are *good* ways of rolling the horse up and *bad.* Rollkur is one of the bad, because it creates an unhealthy amount of tension or stretch in the back. Anky also tends to be very tough on the mouth of her horses. :x I used to be a big fan, but then I learned more about horses.

dude anky shouldnt have won that Final competion cause just cause she is the top rider doesnt mean she automatically wins. she didnt ride the best that one final competeion and she is way to harsh on her horses.!

I think you forgot to add "nahney nahney boo boo". I also think we ALL know that the closest you have ever been to Anky Von Grusven is sitting right where you are. I would never say she is perfect and most likely neither would she. I am only guessing since I have never and most likely will never meet her. It is....annoying?...when computer-chair trainers make snotty comments about undeniably talented riders. Instead, why not just get out and ride your own??

Oh, and it's pretty impressive that Bonfire managed to win the World Cup FIVE TIMES with his 'destroyed' joints and spine. Considering he was born in 1983, I am thinking that Grusven managed him very well. But then again, I am an imbecile. What do I know??

Oh one more thing since you are american , in your country anyone who has gabs of money can buy a Grand Prix horse and do any test since there are no rules , most go to PSG to be able to wear the top hat ... hahahahaha ..... so I am not surprise that in a country as such , people like you are roaming around

I'm sorry, I just have to say look at Bonfire's ears. They're forward and floppy, meaning he's quite relaxed and happy, which I think is one of the best things to see in dressage, it reiterates the whole concept of harmony, and his actual movements are quite fluid and relaxed too. They wouldn't be like that if he wasn't happy and there wasn't harmony between horse and rider.

You don't have to get shirty about it. I'm well aware of what sometimes goes on behind closed doors with this level of dressage, I was simply commenting on the test itself. I whole heartedly agree with the your thoughts on the rollkur and I think it a extremely harsh, unnatural method of training but I was unaware that Anky used such a method, as I follow the eventing world more than the dressage, and I do not advocate Anky's use of it at all.

Monty Roberts could do that. But I doubt since he is one of the most polite people I´ve ever seen.. He doesnt have to ride against anky to proof what he says is right. That man loves horses and knows perfectly well what is good and what´s not for a horse!

In case some people do not know--- ALOT of western training includes more than its fair share of dressage dicipline - If you " 9yrhunterjumper" knew anything at all about western riding you might want to retract your statement about western riders being "freaks"---
