No, I think artificial engine noises are asinine but to call electric cars trash is just plain stupid. The Tesla Roadster is a fast fucking car that costs $2 every 240 miles and does 0-60 in 3.9 seconds. Then there's the Ultimate Aero EV which can do 0-60 in 2.5 seconds.
There is a reason they put it there. That i becouse in many countries there are laws about how silent electrical cars can be. That is for the people with bad hearing and blind people.
Not the car, the stupid noisebox. People don't like the sound of a Ferrari V8 howling behind their ears because it's somehow an objectively, inherently beautiful noise. They like it because of what it represents, of the visceral power the car is producing. If the car isn't doing what actually produces that noise, the noise has lost all importance. It'd be like someone who's never seen or heard of a car setting their computer to make engine noises every time they sent an email .
Well, I was thinking about sound simulation as well. The fun part comes when you will be able to set any engine noise you want. If every car becomes a noiseless electric, the meaning behind the various engine noises will ultimately be lost anyway...
