  • a moron that cant shift should not be on a bike.

  • And what exactly is the point of this? My brain also knows when to change gears and unlike this it will never break.

  • Got playing cards?

  • bianchi, to name a few has had these concept for a while...and a MUCH simpler (but still computerized) way of going about it

  • Dere's a word for electronic bikes, it's called 'moped'. Go and buy one you dumb computerised numb nuts.

  • I would like to see more improvements in efficiancy, materials, reliability and simplicity. WHo needs an automatic bike? If they want to attract "non bikers" they should go for a nice and simple E-bike

  • As soon as I heard the word computer, I started looking at the videos on the right

  • @TeKaSPT Please don't stand in the way of progress. Do you think we shouldn't have invented the jet because propeller planes weren't "broken"? The x-box wasn't broken, but nobody complained when the x-box 360 came out. Stoves weren't broken, but we invented the microwave anyway. See where I'm going here?

  • @FoxOutsideBox multi speed bikes have been refined and perfected over a period of a hundred years.

THIS is not an improvement, its an abortion geared only towards making money.

  • @MrHobiecat Your anti-science/anti-evolution attitude makes you sound like a closed-minded, stubborn creationist. I can tell you're very passionate about bicycles (for whatever reason), but your attitude towards progress in general is flawed.

Do you remember the laser disc. It sucked balls, but it was a necessary step in the evolution of the DVD. Maybe you would rather still be watching VHS's?

Also, if you think the bike has been "perfected", then you are just deceiving yourself.

  • @FoxOutsideBox

im all for experimenting but this seems completely useless. more little bullshit to break that you cant fix yourself just like cars are now. everything is controlled by little computers and when it breaks youre fucked. whats wrong with the way bikes are now? nothing. small changes get made all the time but this is just silly bs. no one serious about bikes would ride anything like that. haha.

  • I'd buy it.

  • It's called advancement, if you don't like it, nobody is forcing you to fucking buy it, shut the fuck up and go and sit back down on the couch you dumb fucks..

  • with due all respect but if you have to working legs use hem !!!!

  • dc generator, basically a wave ... that sentence contradicts each other. dc potential is straight line not wave. he should have said, hub generates dc power to power a square wave generator.

  • that's pretty cool, if you think about it.

  • Is shifting the little bike transmission really that hard??? I know I've never found problems with pushing the little knob to change gears.. I agree with everyone else, this is dumb.. It will add extra expense and weight, and only make it easier to break.. Shimano's fail.

  • and what was wrong with normal shifters??

  • More crap to brake.... brakes... Pffft. Ride Fixed:)

  • ps dont ride it in the rain!

  • but they had to put it on the most stupid looking bike ever

  • @SirJewbacca it's just a standard city-bike

  • The IVT seems to be a better choice. Much quieter and fewer parts to break down. I suspect the shift servo or CPU would be the first component to fail.

  • @joharasaluki "shift servo or CPU would be the first component to fail." - Why CPU? Solid state electronics are most durable things in production.

  • this would just scare the shit out of me when it decides to change gear on its own since I don't expect it

  • @BorisD1992

That scares the SHIFT out of me!

  • Was it necessary to make the bike look like a piece of crap from the 50s?

  • and the benefit is?

  • @stevo54838 it costs more, thats what!

  • @MrHobiecat OK

  • a bike that makes a lawnmower noise? No thanks.

  • What's the point? haha

  • all i ask , is why ?

  • how do we get one.....damn those easy riders look cool.

  • More stuff to break....

  • @korgmatose1 I have this system on my daughters bike, I was against it because I thought it was a problem waiting to happen...two plus years later and no issues...shits perfectly, rides great, my daughter still loves it. I would prefer picking my gear of choice...but she loves it and it is pretty cool because it's different. Shimano pushes the limits and it's because of this trying new things that they still remain with their conventional products. Change creates better bikes

  • Comment removed

  • @korgmatose1 I got your comment on my email, but then saw it was removed. The points you made are accurate, this technology isn't exactly going to change hi performance road biking, but that's not what it was intended to do. Like a concept vehicle, you put your engineering teams on things that make them think differently...the results aren't intended for mass production, but they do inspire teams to perform at higher levels, even the Shimano Coaster achieved it's intended result

  • If my bike had half the noise from those hubs, I would blend it!!!

  • Americans are so lazy, they cant give the extra effort to do it manually

  • @gardinustaung somebody always has to find a way to insult americans in the comment section of every video on youtube... this is more about innovation than catering to lazy ppl. shimano makes bike parts, this is their attempt to innovate and take their craft to the next level. there probably isn't much of a market for this little creation anyways.

    so congratulations, you're a biggot.

  • It sounded like it didn't work.

  • Wow the Luddite reaction is interesting. I guess that is why a bicycle looks pretty much the same it did 120 years ago.

  • @kazawolf

No, it's because after 150 years of continuous intensive development, almost any change you can make to a bicycle makes it worse– in direct proportion to how much you change it. Why so many people want to "improve" a perfected machine rather than designing a shopping cart or can opener that doesn't suck (or something else along those lines) is baffling to me.

  • my bike's OS crashed & i had to reboot before going up a hill

  • let the rian and fall you die

  • Congrats Shimano! The most stupid thing since the Penny Farthing !

  • The bicycle is one of the most elegant and effecient machines humans have ever created.

    QUIT FUCKING WITH IT

    THIS IS NOT AN IMPROVEMENT

  • @MrHobiecat I agree completely

  • @MrHobiecat Boats were pretty elegant too...that is until they came out with catamarans. Come on many...if companies like Shimano don't push the envelope things never get better. Think about...oh, and stop with F-bombs will you, it shows a serious lack of intelligence.

  • @MrOffshore A catamaran IS an improvement over a monohull boat for many applications.

Putting a computer and a shift servo mechanism on a bicycle is NOT an improvement, its an attempt to make money by making a beautiful and elegant machine un-necessarily complex, less reliable, and more expensive.

Your comparison fails. They are not improving the bicycle, they are fucking with it.

ie, this bike is fucked up. You dont like the language?! What THEY DID is obscene.

  • bullshit!

  • That, is called lazy.

  • Never go full retard, c'mon shimano u should know better.

  • This would be usefull if shifting gears manually was hard.

  • thenoblequran (Ctrl+Enter)

  • I don't see how ANY of that changes the gear ratio... I still only see one gear in the front and one in the back.

  • So does the unit cost as much, or more, than the bike? A lazy person, a rich lazy person might like this.

  • Now really old women will cycle too...

    and slow me down. :(

  • ever take it off any sweet jumps? ...

  • I don't see exactly what it does

  • i didnt got the point -.-

  • uselss.. and what if u want it on a higher gear to stand and pedal fast uphill

  • soo its speed sensors and modulators on a bike... kool

  • going to fail because of the stupid sound it makes.

  • I have a Mini 40 Mile Busettii bike and it runs 50-55 miles on one battery charge. I also tried my friends Vortex Mountain bike by Busettii. It ROCKS ! Can get up to 32 mph top speed, and on one charge that bike set the new record of 86 miles. Hope it becomes a big hit. In California many people like Busettii because they cost around $1700 but can go 50--86 miles on one charge depending on model. Maria in Cali

  • @maria271011 86 miles on one charge? Batteries and bikes just don't mix. I rode my fixed gear bike 12,000 miles before I had to take a chain link off.

  • It was a neat thing, is all. I bet it's now part of the past. I still like to ride my Shimano Coasting bike. It's clean, neat, efficient, and does not eat pants legs. Fitted with Freddy Fenders, I can ride it on wet streets and stay clean. See vids?

  • I'll never abandon my friction shifters. =)

  • This may be the stupidest thing I've ever seen in my life... I cannot seem to find any purpose for buying this over a bike with manual shifting as this would most likely cost more.

Also, why in hell would you need a gear shit on a beach cruiser?

  • @aznskater120151, three gears are a help even in flat land like we have here: sometimes there are headwinds, or minor slopes. The Shimano system works fine in my Trek Lime. ALSO, note: it is nearly dead silent. It's a shame that Shimano would make such an amateur recording of a new (stiff) hub. They don't make that kind of noise at all: mine is quieter than the average derailleur by far. I like the system, it's fine for fifteen mph comfort rides. I changed my rear cog to 18T, I think it is

  • this is so retarded, im actually retarded and this makes me feel smart!!

  • just like id rather drive a manual car, id rather drive an old fasioned bike.

  • I'm still riding a 1972 10-speed Schwinn Varsity here, and I prefer to do my shifting manually. I assume that the CPU is set to maintain a constant rpm (let's say 85 rpm).

Now, What if we go up a steep hill? I like to have a lower rpm on hills, and that means a higher gear than what would be used by the computer. Same applies for down hills. How it it going to shift fast enough to keep up with my preferred massive rpm?

Screw it. I'm sticking with my dual-lever shifter. =)

  • that's good

  • What is der' point of dis inventionsk?

  • have people really gotten that lazy..you have it in your car do you really need it on your fukin pedal bike?

  • It is Very Strang !!!? When we were young everytime an idea was Presented people got Excited, and start thinking about what they could use that idea for, or they started adding to it, and PRETY SOON you had something Amasing !!

Now Days Every Time Someone Comes up with Something, SPECIALLY in the Free Energi Field or Cars There Are a 100 Inline WAITING TO write what Ever Negative Thout they have in their HEAD !!!? IS THAT WHY THE SO CALLED ELIT CALL US ................. Eaters !!!?

  • Have fun trying to go anywhere with that. It'll get stolen in 4 minutes.

  • it's still a bike! it will still destroyed

  • Clickity clickity clickity clack clack clack plunk.

Behold, another fine product from Shimano's spinning reel division.

Now you too can enjoy the thrill of bike riding while dreaming that you're about to take first place in the local bass tournament.

  • gay

  • Noisy, clunky piece of shit.

  • Anyone remember the autogear system for bicycles that work using weights or something?

  • "This is the hub dynamo, which is basically just a DC-generator ... as this thing spinning along, it's gonna create a wave-curve and this computer is going to read it. And if this wave is this long or this tall (gestulates), it is going to translate that into a speed ... "

What the hell is he talking about? You basically have a speedometer that sends the speed signal to a microprocessor that calculates and adjusts the gear.

This guy is as fluffy as any sales and marketing folk is gonna get.

  • @bummers

    "Fluffy" that's so f-n funny.

Yeah, these management types always put mascara on the English language.

At least he didn't use the word "paradigm" or slap a Six Sigma control chart on the bike. :-D

  • @bloodbred *grin* Glad you shared in the humour ... and yes, those "paradigm" nonsense. Everytime they have to course-correct their stupid ideas, they will declare that there is a paradigm-shift. ;)

  • what if you have to go through a puddle?? FAIL

  • I guess you just can't fall with this or you just broke like every part of your -computer-bike- lol

  • shit demonstration sorry, but another slow step in cycling. from a spanner spinner.

  • What NOT wireless keep working on it !

  • Thats not a Shimano High Tech Bike, its a Trek Bike modified by shimano, you dont own it, you didnt make the bycicle you idiot, you just made it better.

  • :( no more pulling wheelies :(

  • All that technology, just to replace the action of moving a lever with your finger.

    No thanks.

Anyone who can't figure out something as simple as shifting needs to either ride a single-speed bike or stop riding bicycles.

  • ok yes it's very very very true that many people need to learn to ACTUALLY ride their bike, like how how to shift. evey tome i see some one pedaling at oh say 10000 rpms and not going anywhere i want to stop and show them its much much easier just to shift.

but with that said speaking as a bike mechanic, fuck computer powered bikes, i don't wanna have to learn computers just to fix a bike. thats fucking stupid

  • @zucciniinabottle no ,my friend its the future its flying cars soon.

  • so you have automatic shifting, but in 20 years you haven't managed to tuck away your shifting cables? that's ridiculous.

  • wow, technology at is worst lol

how hard is it to move your wrist half a centimeter / flick your index finger??

  • @4545454545asp

I think it's pretty silly as well, but I also know a lot of people who don't seem to grasp the hows and whens of shifting.

  • @4545454545asp this whole thing reminds me of fifth gear ussless !!

  • What if you come zooming by somone with the same type of bike? Is the other bike going to get your signal and make then switch to a way high gear or is it going to switch you to a low gear. Damn that would suck! Zooming by then all the sudden being forced to peadal faster and then ending up slamming my balls into the seat... DAMN! I don't really want it now.

  • Pointless!

  • my question is why ?

  • they make speedomotors for bikes there like $20.00 at wal-mart and they last 4 ever

the one i have i got in 2006

  • I had one for a while... it wasn't THAT loud, but the most annoying thing is that I like to charge up hills, and I'd just get some speed up and it would shift up and try to kill me. It doesn't care about anything but how fast you're going. It's also awkward explaining to people that the fugly balls over the wheel are related to your inability to master twisting a gearshift or operating those new-fangled brake handles.

  • @Kensingtonian lol'd

  • @Kensingtonian Thank you for explaining the major draw back of this, as you say, all it cares about is speed.

  • Its so fucken loud, plus, its cooler to do it yourself

  • Heaven forbid you have to move your thumb an inch to change a gear on a goddamn bicycle. Effin' dork.

  • shitmano

  • oooh i click woo hooo i dont give a crap

  • haha fail

  • yeah, all the pimps will be riding dirty with this bad ass bike.

  • Do you want to see THE WORLD'S SIMPLEST TRANSMISSION for Bicycle ?

watch: UNIQUE BIKE CRANK ( 2- SPEED)

  • Well, I think you dont get it. It is an automatic shift, without any external power storage, battery, fuel whatsoever. I think it is cool. I would like to have one.

  • i would rather do it manually.

  • has the idea that if you are too stupid and lazy to shift a bike you probably will not pedal it. Who the hell are they going to sell this stupid shit to ? Put an engine on it and you have something.

  • what about rain is the computer water resistant?

  • @johntaheri obviously it is its not hard to seal a box with components in it lol

  • Will it blend?

  • @subsidinblu LOL!

  • ugly bike!!!

  • Hi Tec?

    Can it fly?

  • hit a puddle =p

  • Hummm....pretty noisy though.

  • stupid. no major need for this and nobody would buy it. to many things to break and too much money

  • There is a lego automatic gearbox that's 100 times simpler than this

    search lego gearbox

  • Nice idea but overly complicated, or out of date. Have a look at simkins infinitely variable automatic transmission ( SIVAT ).

The SIVAT is a much lighter and simpler system which, although still at the prototype stage, has much more potential in my opinion.

  • This is not outdated. It is on production, and you can buy at your local shop. SIVAT is a prototype.

There's quite a few prototype cars that can fly, nevertheless I don't compare them to mine.

  • My mobile phone is only 4 years old and it is outdated. Would that obsevation warrant a defence of the product?

Yes, even though the SIVAT is a prototype it is only part of a bicycle, not a prototype bicycle. The comparison between regular cars and flying cars is exaggerated.

A more realistic comparison would be an older manual gearbox car against a newer car with a twin clutch automatic transmission.

Remember, constructive criticism is what this kind of video is here for...

  • indeed also i thought shimano was cheaper brand didnt know trek used there parts

  • How the hell am I gonna change a tire on the side of the road with all that crap on the hubs and wires connected to my wheels?

  • lol its fucking ugly..

whats the style if u want to ride that?

  • I have the Raleigh in this system, great for just working the legs.

  • The dynamo will slow the bike down. I'd rather do the gear shifting myself, and go faster.

  • What happens when you do a wheelie then it doesn't know anymore

  • hahahahahahahaha

  • Comment removed

  • @barabolak moron

  • Das Fahrrad schaltet automatisch , so wie es die straßenbegebenheiten sind ^^

Ist wie ein automatikauto, also ich find es geil und cool :)

  • Klingt wie ein Rasenmäher

  • Wait what? I can't sneak into my girlfriends backyard with that!

*clack clack clack whiiiirrr clack clack clack clack*

    "WHO'S THERE?!"

  • lol!!!

  • @jebugers, I'm a Trek Lime/Shimano Coasting fan. I ride my bike every day. It's a shame: this demo helped sabotage the bike's chances: in real life, once it has a few miles on it, that Shimano hub is nearly totally silent. My Lime is much more quiet that a road bike, really steath. No clatter like we heard here. And I know to wear long pants at my age, lol.

  • What happens when you want a rest. Like when you want to down shift and pedal fast using less effort? This ones not ready for the public!

  • or you could just learn how to ride a fucking bike...

  • And its real quiet too . _ .

  • i'll stick with bmx lol

simple and easy to work on

    and funner to ride

  • hmm, i prefer manual shifting bicycles like most of us. That's were the fun really lies

  • nah the real fun is no gears ... FIXIE

  • Wth? No one rides a bike without gears these days unless you're going to maintain pretty much a constant speed the whole way through.. which really isnt gonna happen..

  • havent you heard of fixie's or track bikes you cant shift gear and there is no freewheel, thats the real fun

  • Ok man. Whatever makes ya happy.

  • actually if you look at a city centre like London or New York, probably two thirds of the courier bikers are using single speed bikes - mostly because they are less likely to break down and easier to fix.

  • True. No matter how advanced you make an auto gearbox, at some point you'll get into a situation where you need to downshift and accellerate really quick. No auto 'box can interpret the actual traffic situation.

Maybe this would work in the countryside, but certainly not in most european cities.

  • I hate automatics

  • A modern high-tech gear system and they put on a 1940's design bicycle?!?

  • are people too lazy to shift gears???

  • just like an automatic shifting on cars :D nice

  • ive seen a bike that has a dildo on the seat going up/down while the wheel is rolling.. great for girls for joyride..

  • Fuck having a big ass solar panel on my bike.

    good idea. needs developing

  • you could also just make your own electric bike you know?

  • A tyre, that don´t has to be trued would be a great invention. Sorry for my bad english

  • how about making a nice electric bike?if im going to have electronics on my bike at least it can help me pedal.too bad nobody makes a cool electric bike to help us use less oil.

  • Electric bike? See lifebike(dot)se (Didn't find a English site, sorry)

  • Shimano should stick to fishing reels lol what a waist

  • shimano makes some of the best road race cycle components out their , besides this is a great thing for people with arthritis or other hand problems that may not like shifting or cant shift due to lack or range of finger motion.

  • Shimano has been making brakes and derailleurs for bikes for a long time. Get your facts straight.

  • Shimano has been making fishing reels for fishing poles for a long time. Get your facts straight.

  • Yes, I know they make fishing reels as well.

  • there is a reason why people stick to rdriving with a stick.

  • i hope this can handle a 1 metre high jump with a 150pound+
