@greenbelter123 just looked into it and Daryl Braithwaite's version IS the copy. His version was in October 1991, therefore AFTER the Change of Season album.
When i saw John oates moustache for the first time in 1987 i thought... look at that greasy moustache, at that moment i knew i would enjoy men's moustaches for a very long time indeed.
@MrGeogab1 I was always under the assumption that H&O's version came first and Daryl Braithwaite's was the copy. Is this wrong then? I knew they were both recorded at a similar time.
@MrGeogab1 Geez really hate it when people don't do their homework this is a Hall and Oats song, it was written and recorded in 1990 for the album Change of Season. When was the other version recorded? Years later I guess
Don't Hold is one of my all-time fav H&O songs! Change of Season is more like their style today. One of the few songs that H&O didn't actually write but you know they must have really liked it to record it.
God, those old VH1 logos had me taken back for a bit. I remember being younger and watching the top 21 every Sat afternoon! This was AND is a fantastic song! Thank you very much for the upload!
@vonhist ...come think of it - terminator did albeit, subconsciously feature or submit throughout, that which acts as foremorst from my memory bank. basically - i resonate with what you have typed therefore. >_<
Songs like these remind you to not give up on your faith and dreams, even when things seem to be falling apart or going in the wrong directions. Hall and Oates still delivers great music to this day. The video is also awesome!!
thanks i still have abandoned lunchenette album and the rest following up thru the 80's am sharing them with my teenagers now , daryl hall and john oates were kind ehuff to share their gifts from God with us wonderful music carries thru the generations and brings us together
Change of Season May have been their best album and it came after their 'prime.' It's unfortunate because I liked EVERY SINGLE song on the album, they're all great in their own way and some did get some play.
RIP T-Bone ...you're a huge reason why I love Hall and Oates since my childhood....you were always just as important and I know Hall and Oates would agree
This song is a definite masterpiece both musically and vocally. And I agree with a comment waaay down the page that says "every time I hear the opening chords, my heart just melts". That pretty much says it all and is how I feel too...... :)
This was the album that was basically half theirs/half clive davis. He forced them to cover a few songs (really smart Clive since they made their career writing their own stuff) and forced other producers on them (again, became hugely successful after taking over producing themselves). It's not my favorite by them, I can "feel" the tension on the album. I could feel it before I even heard the stories about it. clive let them out of their arista deal after they collided over this album.
I didn't have cable in the 90's, so I've never seen the videos for the "Change of Season" album (my favourite album by my favourite band). Thanks for the post.
This song surely took my heart with it when I first heard it back in the 90s.. sadly, very few of the music that come out today bear the class or richness of the music that hall & oates, phil collins, mr. mister gave us back then...timeless music to my ears...
I almost forgot about this song and had no idea it was Hall& Oates. Not really a great song IMO, but certainly a good one. I'm a little surprised to see that it never broke into the top 40 as there were definitely top 40 songs that year that weren't as good as this one. The early 90's were the last few good years before music started going downhill.
I'm not. I love Hall & Oates, but think about the Top 40 landscape, circa 1990. Hip Hop was starting to really crossover and it influenced the mainstream pop. A ton of tracks had rap in them, for good or bad. C+C Music Factory, Snap, Vanilla Ice, MC Hammer, Technotronic. A lot of rock leaning songs had a tougher time charting. Jude Cole made one of the most underated albums of that era and "Baby It's Tonight" only peaked at #12. Hair bands were on their way out as well. Great song, though.
This is their last hit single, if I'm not mistaken. 1991. They are great.
It peaked at #41 on the charts. And it was their first single to miss the Top 40 since 1979. Breaking one of the longest strings of consecutive top 40 hits in chart history.
One of my all-time fav H&O songs ever! I hope Daryl will do it on "Live from Daryl's House" soon! I think you are right Rusty1491- I can't think of another video after this one where John had his "stache"!lol Change of Season was the last album before the 7 year break between 90-97. During the break John shaved it off and says he will never have it again.
This was always one of my favourite Hall & Oates songs. It's so beautiful and moving. I was a big fan of theirs in the 80's and still love their music now, and their recent music is as good as anything they did back then.
This was always one of my favourite Hall & Oates songs and it still sounds amazing. It's such a beautiful song. They're so talented and their recent music is as good as anything they did years ago.
This song was soooooooooo underrated, it never received the commercial success it well deserved. Great lyrics matched with heart-felt music. "... Gotta get up every single day, face the judge and jury..." WOW! Definitely my fav H&O song.
Wore this CD out back in the 90s. Wish I could find a video of their song "Heavy Rain." Hoping it'll get uploaded one of these days.
