In all seriousness, it is refreshing to see you do this playthrough without cheats (aside from the 200 plus lives :) ) There is nothing more annoying than watching someone waltz through one of these arcade games that I used to play on my valuable quarters at the time and KNOW that the game is so much harder than it seems.

@PUNISHERWarzone87 You probably have an incomplete ROM then. Also, I'm using an older version of MAME. Typically, the creators of MAME tend to bounce around with compatibility to a game compatible with an old version may not be compatible with a newer version. Also, there's more than one version. I'd download all the versions if possible. I know ROM World had a working ROM for me. Typically, MAME ROM dumpers set up ROMS to be dependant on other ROMS of the same game.

@EB1089 Well, you may not be able to get it on iOS, but you can get it for about 20 bucks along with many other games as a secret bonus game in Sonic's Ultimate Genesis collection on the XBOX 360 and PS3 unlocked after playing the Genesis version and scoring 100000 points in the first level. Also, iirc, they've also made the Arcade version of Altered Beast avialable on Wii Virtual Console. So if you have any of those systems, you should get it for one of them. Emulates decently on 360 and PS3.

@EB1089 Just a note about the Genesis titles. The sound Emulation is about as good as Gens so it's not 100% accurate but there's enough games in it to make up for that. Plus bonus content like developer interviews, and other little goodies. Sadly, the game didn't have room for the Sonic and Knuckles lock on games, Blue spheres, Knuckles in Sonic 2, and Sonic 3 and Knuckles. The next compilation should have them though.

@longfootbuddy Technically, this is the arcade version. Altered Beast WAS made by Sega. The guy who made golden Axe also made this game. This is the actual arcade game emulated on MAME though so it's not 100% accurate. Tbh, I've never saw a real Altered Beast Cabinet ever. SEGA's System 16 arcade version of Altered Beast looked so much better than the watered down Genesis version. Yet everyone thought the Genesis version looked almost as good as the arcade. The difference is pretty damn clear.

No. You see, that's a stereotype. Not all dragons have to breath fire. Some can breath other elements as well and some don't necessarily have to breath anything for that matter.

The boss in this game reminds me of the dm I play D&D with. Sends you into graveyards full of demons with no weaponry, kills you six or seven times, drags you kicking and screaming through a boss fight and takes everything away from you when you finally win.
Yeah I know. This was actually made before Golden Axe so actually Chicken Legs originated from this game. lol Altered Beast is from the same creators as Golden Axe so its no surprise.
