Grand is the right word for this great theme song. I wish this short-lived show would make it to DVD. I was 12 or 13 when this show premiered and fell in lust with Sable(Stephanie Beacham) from the start.
@DarthCipient You made this comment a year ago but I still feel compelled to comment. While I grew up on knot's landing, Dallas, Dynasty, and Falcon crest, I still love Melrose Place, Desperate Housewives, And other modern nighttime soaps. You are definately entitled to your opinion but I think it's unfair to call Desperate Housewives trash. I mean Dynasty wasn't exactly shakespere. You can love the classic shows but don't dump on the modern shows because I like them too. Just saying.
@hshawn00 The old soaps were trashy of course because they represented the materialistic Reaganite era of conspicious consumption, but they seemed to have a certain classiness to them too, that I think modern shows lack.
@DarthCipient Er, that's the funniest comment I've ever seen...I like all those shows, including DH, but to say DH is trashy and those shows weren't is a little off...
@TheMCEurope SO The interior of the home was used too? teh interiors wasn't a set? if teh interiors were used i wonder how that was worked out with the behind the scens people, actor and the actual people living in the home so there was no disturbance to the people living in the house?
@travis082185 pretty much all of the interior scenes were studio set .exterior in the gardens etc were used for filming plus addiotnal an offsite location for a 'bigger' appearance just the same as in Dynasty.
@TheMCEurope Honey check your ears. This is not the same theme from Dynasty. They are similar but not the same. I think this theme is much grander than even Dynasty.
There is a great new bio (called Charlton Heston: An Incredible LIfe: Revised Edition) for sale at amazon! About B. Stanwyck (who was in the first season of this show) google the name "Frank Worthen"!
I disagree - Bill Conti was in top form here as far as TV Themes go...Compared to what is considered a TV theme show today this is like a symphony..The Show however failed to capture the Dynasty audience...
It seems unusual to me to call Montalban a "special guest star" when he was part of the regular cast. Does anyone know what the plans were for The Colby is the show had been picked up for another season?
Being an actor on a show your pay check is determined by your place on the opening titles: The big league are Chuck, John, Kat and Emma; The second league Max, Tracy and Claire; The third league is Michael as latest addition and finally Stephanie with an "And" credit she connects again with the Big 4 and their salary! Ricardo is only a guest star and gets another payment regime depending on his contract negotiations. Also being a guest you can be dropped from a show at any time; the other can't
Being a guest doesn't mean you can be dropped anytime. It's a special billing that sets you apart from the others. As a star, you either want to be at the front or the end. The 'and' was taken by someone else, so Mr. Montalban, who was more well known than the others, negotiated a 'guest star' billing. Much like Heather Locklear on Melrose Place. There was no way she was going to be dropped anytime from Melrose Place. She needed to be set apart from the others 'listed in alphabetical order'.
Why does this look so much like Dynasty ?

If you have a helicopter hovering over your house, you are either very rich, or have a meth house that is being staked out by the police.

I remember the orginial title was "Dynasty II: The Colby's". For some reason, ABC changed it. Anyone know why?

Killed off in plane explosion mid thru season 2,Miss Stanwyck quit after season1,saying The Colbys was crap lol

what do you think about this show? how come she quit seasson 1 but only dissapeared in season 2? she guess starred?
ConfusedSponge 2 years ago
I liked the show, like a lot of people disappointed with the new Fallon,Emma Samms'Fallon was not a patch on Pamela Sue Martin's.
Regarding Barbara guess she decided not to come back season2 so the writers worked on her exit, was very surprised when they decided to kill her off

I loved this show
but this theme music was boring compared to Dynasty
but the show was great :-)

Bill Conti composed music for Rocky, The Karate Kid and Lean on Me
He also composed music for Hit TV Shows such as Dynatsy, The Colbys, Falcon Crest, The Master, Cagney and Lacey and of course American Gladiators.

I think the biggest let down on "The Colbys",was the new Fallon,Emma Samms got a lot of flack but it was the scripts.
When Fallon went back to Dynasty,we saw Emma Samms more like Fallon mk1.
