Washington State is very wet rather than extremely cold. Maybe that particular year in London it was colder than usual; maybe you're simply not used to a northern European climate. Canada for instance gets a proper winter, we don't (by comparison.) The Midwest can freeze right up too. Besides, winter can be very picturesque in it's bleakness.
English winters are rarely harsh; our climate is temperate. In winter, it can (and does) get cold but these "cold snaps" rarely last long. We rarely get any meaningful snow; I for one cannot remember a single white Xmas.
Summer time can get hot (by our standards (90's F)) but these heat-waves rarely last more than a few days. If you look up our average mean summer/winter temps, you'll find them to be devoid of extremity. Certainly, nothing compared to the northern and mid-western US.

Our land was already family owned (my nan passed away) leaving it to us. My younger bro built this house for us (he now teaches building) as a family home. It's large enough to accommodate the entire family when everyone conglomerates (e.g. Xmas time.) It's very beautiful here. I live deep in the heart of England's gorgeous countryside (Worcester is the nearest city.) Never been to TX though..

Like I said, you can always stay 'round mine. I'll show ya 'round Amsterdam (only 1 hours flight from B'ham to Schiphol) then a 20 minute train ride from the airport to 'Dam Central Station followed by a 15-20 minute walk into the Red-light!
It won't cost $2000 for a ticket to the UK either. You've gotta book up when you see a cheap flight going (they can be very cheap if you don't mind going at their convenience...)

Honestly, I wouldn't go to Disney for all the tea in China (unless it was for the sake of my nephew/nieces.) My younger bro's been. He got married in FL in some place called Clearwater (from memory as this was years ago.) I've seen Disney on TV. Some good rides but mega long queues (lines,) exorbitant prices and nothing but tawdry, tackiness everywhere. It isn't for me. Have you been?

Washington State is very wet rather than extremely cold. Maybe that particular year in London it was colder than usual; maybe you're simply not used to a northern European climate. However it is true, the majority of the northern and Midwest US states' mean average temps are usually far lower than in the UK. I was in Flagstaff AZ (one of the hottest US states) and it was blizzards all 'round. I guess 8000' up in the mountains explained that. When in CA (desert climate) it got very cold at night.

Same as in Alaska. Once you're around 70 degrees from the equator, you spend 6 months in perpetual sunlight and the other 6 months in perpetual darkness. How weird must that be? I imagine people who're native to those climes are used to it.
Sure, people complain about the British weather (including me) but, if I was to be honest, it does actually kinda suit me as I do not like extremes. Plus, with a healthy degree of annual rainfall, it keeps England's green 'n' pleasant land just so!

When I ventured through Chicago in February earlier this year, people were dressed like Eskimos! Just breathing froze the back of my throat! It was so cold, the train's fluids in their lines all froze up and the train was delayed leaving us all stuck in Union Station for many more hours....
No doubt about it, unless you're in the deep south, north American winters are far more severe than those of the UK.

Orlando is popular for one reason - no prizes for guessing what that is! I think I must be the only Brit to have stayed in south FL and NOT went to that horrific, generic tourist trap. Instead, I checked out the slums of Miami & the Everglades. You cannot compare our climates simply because we're on very different lines of latitude. Canada for instance gets a proper winter, we don't (by comparison.) The Midwest can freeze right up too. Besides, winter can be very picturesque in it's bleakness.

English winters are rarely harsh; our climate is temperate. In winter, it can (and does) get cold but these "cold snaps" rarely last long. We rarely get any meaningful snow; I for one cannot remember a single white Xmas.
Summer time can get hot (by our standards (90's F)) but these heat-waves rarely last more than a few days. If you look up our average mean summer/winter temps, you'll find them to be devoid of extremity. Certainly, nothing compared to the northern and mid-western US.
