  • a comment concerning luck. imagine that u r playing your solo and fall a drumstick, (no big deal grab an other 1 from the stickbag) during the fall the stick stuck between the beater the bassdrum head & the pedal front surface.Unbelivable? think again

  • Yeah!

  • ridiculous!

  • @zip343 That's not an Atlanta Braves cap it's the California Angels...note the halo over the letter A.

  • @jeffrockit I stand corrected sir...enjoyed watching the vid again...Thank you....

  • reminds me Denzel Washington!

  • Look everybody, is Carlos's brother Jose Santana on guitar! They look so much alike.

  • intelligent hands drum way

  • lovin' the jersey Lenny's got on...

  • is he playing the ride on the left and the crash on the right?

  • @digitaldown thats how i play too, i'm a lefty though

  • @digitaldown Yeahm I'm right handed but have always played left hand lead. Nice to see others use it too. Carter Beauford is the other that immediately springs to mind.

  • @digitaldown no, you are only hallucinating...

  • Drop a stick and pick-up another one and keep on going like nothing happened,The man got skills!!-LOL

  • only guthrie govan could have played to this shit!! Insane.

  • When he's playing those fills around the toms, is he leading with his left or right hand? I can't tell.

  • @The4thGuy Yes, he is leading with his left hand.

  • @SwaiiDrums Thanks!

  • Now that's what I call MUSIC!!

  • Check out Lenny White on SoulDrummers . com

  • much ear left baqueta to fall

  • Any open handed drummers out there? I'm thinking about making the switch, seems so logical in some ways, but I'm curious about what other open handers think about it ( pros & cons ).

  • @mlcoo17 i play both. it's good for certain things. it will give you a different approach and feel to how you play and this will open you up to learn more about yourself and what you can do on the drums. i know this isn't the answer you were looking for but don't think too much about it, just do it.

  • @mlcoo17 Go for it man, I tried it for about a year and even though I ended up switching back it gave me alot. It improved my coordination alot and it made my left hand really come to life. It's incredibly frustrating at first, but after a few weeks you start getting it. Good luck!

  • @mlcoo17 don't hesitate, can't see no cons. pros : probably a new level of independance and sense of time

  • @mlcoo17 go for it dude, its a bit hard, but after a while you have two right hands (if you are right handed) its possibly the best thing i did concerning my drumming.

  • OMG this is SOOO GROOOOOVYYYY

  • sick!!! some old Return to Forever grooves and fills included in this! have you ever seen a happier drummer?! the best.

  • Don't know if he is playing on the left channel, I'm a fan of Lenny but not a drummer myself

  • Wow Richard Pryor used to be a cool drummer

  • Wait... is this Lenny White who played on Bitches Brew ?

  • @FunkySkunk90 yes, it is

  • @Parrock1

Ok. One more question and I'm out, was he playing on the left channel ?

  • @FunkySkunk90 jack dejohnette

  • without Lenny we wouldn't have the awesomeness of Danny Carey

  • hey if u wanna hear some more lenny white

    go on my channel

    i love the guy!

    and comment on my vids plz ;-;

  • @camacausey7...

    boring?

you must be the guy from the Dos Exis commercials because it sounds like you are the 'most interesting man in the world'...

im guessing your into deathy/speed metal, you know, stuff that doesnt have soul

    +

  • drumming is not am matter of speed, it´s a matter of texture and knowing the music it´s a matter of style!

  • god this guy is boring. i've watched about five of his vids, and all of them are boring as hell like he's just hitting whatever and people clap at random. two of the vids he dropped his sticks and he sucked in all of them. i know he played for miles davis, and influenced danny carey, but holy god do i find him boring and without skill

  • Can't believe I had a set of these drums in Aqua Marine and sold them like an idiot, was just a 4 piece though...

  • is lenny white left handed or right handed?

  • @hashkat He plays open-handed. Wich means he does play a righthie kit but he use his left hand to play on his hi-hat, ride, etc :D

  • @hashkat

he is left handed, so he does not "really" play open handed, if you understand what i mean. (It's his normal technique, he is not right handed and tries to keep the beat with his left hand...)

  • Go Lenny! Holy crapola.

  • GO PENS!!!!! and great music

  • So many random things that made me laugh in this video

  • Lennie is one of the best of all time. Check out his work with Return to Forever in the 70's if you want to hear just how tight and technical drumming can be.

  • hanfbrot: That sound ist a vintage Sound that fits. But ok it could be more compressed/louder in the mix.

  • @ocdwowen84 HAHAHAA!!!

  • the bassist needs some effekts on the bass.... theres something missing..

    it sound so 'flat'..

  • shit man what fuckin video were u watching???

  • mate., don't look at hsi wearings, look at his skillz

  • Not bad at all!

  • Awsome player!! Love is groove!!

  • the best

  • slappin' the bass!

  • best drummer

  • Comment removed

  • chris rock!!!

  • I never can understand how guys can drum like this whering long sleeve shirts...

  • Groovin' hard!!

  • who is the bass player?

  • great

if you see danny carey playing you really can see that he is influenced by lenny white !

  • who's the bass player ??

  • LOL the sign falls dlown at 3:00 hahahaha, you can see the duct tape hhahaha

  • Looks like a similar tech Dave Weckl uses for doubles

  • Gotta love the mighty ducks jersey classic

  • I guess you mean penguins? pittsburgh penguins? This video is perhaps older than the mighty ducks even.

  • @frodog19 thats the penguins classic, not the mighty ducks

  • yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Cannot stop cracking up about 2:29

  • @ahenage yeah, my drum teacher told me one day: When you play on stage, you have to keep another pair drumsticks in readiness.

Fortunately that was never case :D

Nevertheless Lenny got cool jam skills

  • @ahenage I found 3:03 funnier - when the sign fell down!

  • @meanspirit LOL!!!

  • @ahenage - but he didnt miss a beat!

  • @ahenage

I don't get it. Is dropping a stick that funny? Or is it the fact that he kind of played the drum fill 101 around the toms at 2:28. For such a hip drummer, I thought was kind of funny

  • haha nice save lol

  • This man is an incredible drummer, one of the most underrated drummers in history.

  • His left hand movements are soo smooth!

  • saw Lenny play recently at the Detroit Jazz Fest with Chick Corea and Stanley Clarke - needless to say it was profound.

  • I was there too, Chick autographed my DIJF shirt. They really grooved huh?

  • 1980 Kurt Russel on the bass

  • HAHA Lenny is tearing shit up 3:01

  • Comment removed

  • Lenny takes no prisoners!

  • awsome im left handed and play open hand its nice too get ideas for set ups for open handed playing

  • que bueno, me encnata que toque con la mano izquierda el ostinato

  • haaaa that guitarist is just like drrrrr o.o

  • raw drum sound!!!

  • I agree with Dark1netx but that bass player is one jiv ass honkey, you can tell White is humoring his solo. His bass playing was section to section, he didnt build his phrases he just jumped from idea to idea and White was not buying.

  • agreed.

  • To alloneword154 ... perhaps you've never heard John Robinson formerly with Rufus & Chaka Khan ... one of many white musicians who are more than skilled at laying down "the funk"... Funk is not reserved for any particular ethnicity my man... don't get it twisted... actually I hope you were trying to be funny with your comment ... if so, then scratch what I just wrote and have a great day!

  • Classic! I should get a sign which falls, haha.

  • AWESOME

  • lenny's so groovay

  • Lenny makes everyone sound good..!!

LOL at that cheezzy sign that falls off the wall.

  • Can you call it funk with two white guy's in your band??

  • you musta never heard of tower of power then holmes....

  • I bet some of your favorite funk/soul records has whiteboys playing on it; Roger Hawkins, Ed Greene, Greg Errico, Andy Numark, Mike Clark, Gene Pello, Dave Garibaldi, Jeff Porcaro, Steve Gadd, JR Robinson, Rick Marotta, to name a few...but you wouldn't know nothing about them youngsta..

  • Mike Clark, Gadd and Garibaldi are some of my heros.

  • LOL! it almost seemed like the bassist was trying to outdo Lenny for a while

  • the only thing that keeps this video from being absolutely ridiculous is lenny's drumming

  • sweet

  • Haha so good he makes sighns fall off the wall!!!!! hahaha

  • look at the sign on the wall at 42 seconds it is on the wall flat. At 1:47 sec it is starting to come off. At 3:00 min it falls. LOL...stupid tape.

  • This guy rules!

    Angels hat

    Penguins jersey

Oh yea drums is good too!

  • why is this a funk shuffle and and a texas shuffle?

  • Groove is well oiled

  • just hearin the intro of the song, as soon as i heard the drummer"s funky beat i got hooked on his funky beat, very grrovy, very chillin, just very laid back and above ^^^^^. great class act band .

  • ya rep the Penguins

  • does the dude on the bass have terets

  • who's on guit/bass?

  • That bass solo cracks me up.

  • the roll at 3.15? so what is so tuff about it?

Lenny White is great and i love the casualness and drum sound. But there really is nothing technically tuff here. maybe that's why it sounds so good. just grooving tasty music

  • its a single stroke roll...but he play it with his wrist instead of his fingers....

  • Is this how much fun it is being in a band? I feel like I missed something by not doing it...

  • Oh yeah, drummer for forty years...don't get much better than this with passion and practice. Downsides to everything but! Get in there enjoy.

  • sweet ride cymbal

  • 2:29 lol

  • They played so hard that the sign fell in the background. Awesome Vid. Vintage!!!!

  • "This video is poor and speaks for itself." Of course it speaks for itself you moron. All music does and doesn't need anyone to speak for it. If you can't appreciate such musicianship, your opinion need not be taken seriously. And please don't post a video of yourself, I'm sure it would be a complete waste of time to watch.

  • Dear god not the bass solo!

  • Guitarist looks like Billy Mitchell... :D

  • lenny white is great especially with return to forever but it bugs me because he always does alot of stick clicking either on the rims or being sloppy

  • What ride is that? Is it a Zildjian or an Istanbul Agop? I love the sound of it and his drums sound so wide open and full! Great video!

  • I love that people even talk trash on this. Lenny is an AWESOME drummer. Get the hell outta here with the hating and go listen to some RTF records. What is this world coming to?

  • dude.. i couldn't agree more. i was just commenting on how many drummers are such haters. a good drummer doesn't need to bash others even if they suck or play different styles. hearing this guy in Return to Forever is so sick. I can only hope to make such good music, and to have talent parrallel to this in my lifetime.

  • Yeah man. So right. A good drummer never rejects another drummer for playing in a diferent style or for playing less. Less is just less and no more, and it's not bad, and less if it is in the hands of Lenny White

  • @djphonics

    yeah baby yeah!

  • Yeah, seriously, where do y'all get the sack to take Lenny White's musical inventory? He is one of the greats, whether you think you like this jam or not. Stop putting Play Doh in your ears--maybe that's the problem.

  • @hawksapoozle its because half the dicks that comment are children who think speed metal drumming is the be all and end all. they have no concept of musical ability groove etc i could go on. Just immature people who need to grow up. both well said both of you by the way

  • o Baterista parece o cara do LOST

  • three floor toms... i dont get it...

  • i love when he drops his stick and just geeps funkin it up! lenny is great.

  • Look, I have my own musical views and tastes. I started playing drum 26 years ago and have studied music for a long, long time. I am sorry that my views piss people off. If "you" think this is great stuff, well I don't have a problem with that. Lenny White is one of my fav drummers and I was just adding my own two cents on this one particular clip.

    Sorry....

  • That's such a close-minded point of view...that it has to be cohesive or coherent...If you ever listen to classical music you'd see (or rather, hear) that even back then music was sometimes "incoherent". You're just a cynic.

  • All these chumps badmouthin Lenny;

None of you have the balls to carry his

trap case. When was the last time Stanley

Clarke invited you dudes to play on his

record or do gigs? Bunch of no talent posers....Say it to Lenny's face or post your own clips. He's just havin a good time with these guys and KICKIN ASS!

  • And people say that you can't use drums for expression. Screw em.

  • I think you mean syncopation and not poly-rhythms. In either case you are correct about what is throwing me off. What Lenny is doing is very disjointed and often doesn't follow any natural and coherent plan for what he wants to do with the context of the "jam". What is important regarding this piece is that I remember that it truly is just a jam and nothing more.

  • yea man i gotcha

  • oldschoolthrasher666:

"all of them are crazy! think about it. lenny white wouldn't be playing with them if they couldn' play their instruments. "

No, he would be playing with someone else

  • all of them are crazy! think about it. lenny white wouldn't be playing with them if they couldn' play their instruments.

  • The poster fell off the wall. The one that said "Drummers Collective - N.Y.C." You can see it at the beginning.

  • So this is the guy that Tony Royster always gives credit to..

  • I love Lenny White, but at 3:15 he plays a roll on the snare that is so painful to watch. It sounds good, but try doing that for one minute. That will hurt your hands. But he got the sound that he wanted and that is what it is about.

  • r u 4 reel man?..that roll at 3:15 is piss easy..all ya gots 2do is relax n use ur finger control bro!!!

  • ya, and lenny tenses up..check it

  • So.

  • ok, it's over.

Let's enjoy the video as it was made, lol

  • NO!?!

  • Are you kidding me that bass player is amazing

  • Teach me something, you must know a lot indeed.

    I'd be glad for it.

    (...)

  • The Bass Player Rocks - you don't know a shit!

  • Good drums & bass i thought.

  • hmm...so this is how to play a tune dinamically, huh.

  • wats wrong with the bass> he is good idk y people dont like him

  • Such amazing fills. Often unusual but always interesting. Odd bassist though...

  • Whats so odd about the bassist

  • Comment removed

  • Lenny White is a gr8 drummer, but I do agree with the point about the bass player. He ruined the song, but the drums more than make up for that, good stuff.

  • Awesome footage. And can somebody tell me what the heck is wrong with that bassist ? He did a pretty cool & funky jam, not unlike the "lightnin-fast-jacolicks-played-on-the-C-string-of a-fodera" stuff you see these days.

  • This is very cool.

  • Are you kidding me?? :S

  • Who are these redneck yokels?

  • You just can't find a trio tighter than that.

  • that bassist is appauling
