Kodo made the style famous, they are from Sado island. However it is originally called Miyake-jima Kamitsuki Mikoshi Daiko". The word 'Miyake' comes from Miyake-jima which is an island of the Izu Island chain and located at 180km south of Tokyo. More information at:

It's called Miyake Daiko. Probably the most famous traditional taiko song. It comes from Sado Island.
