Born and raised near Alexandria and I lived in Lafayette, Baton Rouge and New Orleans. Moved away 4 years ago, and everytime I hear this song, it tugs at my heart remembering all the truly wonderful things that make Louisiana so special. Only if you're a native, will you understand what it means when the lyrics say... "This is our love, this is our life, this is our home".
Jep Epstein wrote this song just a few weeks after Katrina devastated New Orleans. He was in Shreveport at the time, so I'm told. It is amazingly sensitive to the feelings of pride, homesickness, sadness, bravery, and determination all rolled up into one great tune. If you happen to be reading this, Jep, I met you at St. Louis Cathedral one year after Katrina, the night Pres, Geo Bush visited. All the best . . . . paul pic
This song gives me goosebumps every time. I've grown up in south Louisiana, and this will always be my home. There's no where else in the world like it.
I'm going to Louisiana In November! to my grandparents house for thanksgiving. they have a one story house with like 7 rooms and we are going to sleep over there for like 2 weeks and my moms brother and sisters family is going to sleep over to. and my cousins coming to sleep over too! Can't wait till the 17th of November we go every year! (:
i love lake charles, louisiana and i love the entire state. it's where i'm from and where i am. our state was ravaged by the 2005 hurricanes rita and katrina but we're slowly but surely are healing it's wounds.
This song makes me cry. I am so honored to me from Louisiana. Aug.29,2008 I had to sing this song infront of my school. The day I'm writing this. People made fun of me, but I know what this song is about and I proud of myself and so should everyone else.
Thanks for posting this .... I remember this song for a Blue Cross campaign before I had to move to NYC for work reasons ..... Makes me homesick ..... What I wouldn't give for a few pounds of crawfish ...... Geaux Saints & Hornets!!!!!.
