wow, why not just get a zipper from a sleeping bag and sew it on???? then the whole thing can be zipped up if you wanted or unzipped. then you dont have to worry about getting poked by those things!!!
Excellent idea! As far as the hammock option, would it be a good idea to roll the hammock and blanket together? I think that having your hammock and blanket in one unit would make packing simper than storing them separately.

Why not sew the thing into a tube? Velcro would be even better. I can't sleep in a nylon bag, so wool is way better.
