This is boring... the show was really written to show off some good trumpet players that can scream... Without the trumpet parts especially at the beginning, it loses the entire meaning.
Why would your band even agree to play this? You guys have no screamers on Trumpet. ZERO. The Tempo is boring, not bad, but just boring. And Whoa, guys. Butcher the duet in Second movement much? And that was a sorry excuse for screaming. I agree it's a difficult show, but why pick it in the first place? It's supposed to feature a high octane trumpet section with a screamers. Which I saw none in this video.
Not to be offensive or anything, but why would your band pick Gangsta Jazz? Don't me wrong, its looks good. LOOKS good. But it sounded terrible. And why play Gangsta jazz without any Screamers on Trumpet. It's an insult for all bands that have screamers. The trumpets butchered the duet on Second Movement, and the attempt to scream right after... = FAIL.
It being Montana, it's hard to play metal instruments when temperatures are below freezing... So it's basically like trying to play screamer notes after having Novocain in your lips and playing right after taking your metal instrument out of the freezer after in had been in there for a while... plus, this performance I believe was only our second ever, so we weren't very well rehearsed.
To everyone from El Camino High saying they played this better, that would actually constitute playing the same music. Pt. 2 changed quite a bit, mainly the trumpet quartet to a sax duet. I recommend sticking with what's written. EC might have played it better, but from a composition stand point, I prefer arrangement that BHS played, even if it doesn't sound half good. We're performing this at our school and it's tough, so I can say that I hold high regards for anyone who attempts this show.

The first section of Part 2 trumpet solos weren't that good... They kinda redeemed themselves at the big finish part, though. They play everything it a bit slower than we do too.
Gantsa Jazz is amazing music! good job to anyone who tries and plays it, gee, all you guys do is critize, give them some credit! its not a big deal, they just wanna show what they accomplished. Congrats to you guys! Good Job! :D
ok this is just sad as hell. first thing i noticed was at 2:18 this huge silence! where was the 1st trumpet part that's written there!? shouldnt have played it unless your trumpet + percussion sections are good enough

For all of you haters saying that your band is so much better at this show, watch our band play it. I'm talking about the Fresno State Bulldog Marching Band, who this show was actually written for.
Ash would suck, but snow is something entirely different. Ash is ash, snow comes with below freezing temperatures, flag poles icing over and instruments becoming almost impossible to play. And Bozeman has about three months a year where there isn't snow on the ground, it's almost impossible to plan your marching season around the weather.
ok.. you all that are dissing on this band, come up to montana.. it snows in october and that means marching is tough.. most of you probably don't know how to play your horn when it's 20 degrees outside and raining.. lots of bands that go year round, we go from 3rd week of august to maybe the end of october.. yeah, it's short! high notes don't always comeout when your instrement is flat because of the cold.. anyof you posting that we suck, you come up and march in snow!

Good rule of thumb: Never post anything on the internet about your marching band that you wouldn't want to say in front of your director. Marching band is not about dumping on other bands via the internet just so you can feel good about yourselves. You should all be ashamed.

My band is working on this right now, and we are SO much better! I go to El Camino, and our balance is way better. Our trumpets can actually play, we are playing it up-to-speed, and we even are improvising and we added alot more playing and dancing, and our show kicks butt! This is pretty darn poor!

WE are playing it and we are ripping the heck out of it about 185 bpm. We are taking it way faster than this. This clip sounds like in mvt 2 there are tempo issues
Yeah we are playing this now at MHS and from hearing toward the Trumpet duet the song got out of hand like the 2nd and 3rd Trumpets wasn't playing the background.
We are playing this this year, and we are something of an elite band (almost beat Prospect and Lake Park last year, two of US Best) and this is good i just think the trumpets need to learn their music.
the whole show is trumpet heavy, and relies on them.

And also, you played the 2nd movement faster than the first... Where's the logic in that? And the drill writing as average... And the trumpet duet SUCKED! Absolutely appaling. And the percussion entrance after the 12/8 hits in the 2nd movement was not at all together.
Its so slow. And the opening statement everybody slowed down. Trumpets dropping notes, and then trying to "sneak" back in. The snares were dirty, basses horrible. Absolutely disgusting.
Why am i being so hard? Because my band has played this at about 169+ tempo.

work on your horn line though.
they needed work on there solo in the first song.
also, it could be a disadvantage with the poor recording quality, but you guys should work on makeing it more powerfull.
like, this song, most of the time, is meant to be BLASTED, especially the trumpets.
