I just loved the playing and the stories behind both the 6 string bass (I have one) and his upright (I too had a crappy plywood bass; he's spot on in his assesment of them).
As someone else already commented, does anyone know anything about the book Dave mentioned?
@afeschyn I have actually read the only copy of the book, my mother was his girl friend of 7 years when he passed, we were very close. All i can say about the Book is that it is genius and unconprehendible.
I was at The Oyster House listening to Bob Shepard - Jeff DAngelo on bass (sorry can't remember drummer) Dave shows up with his 6 string bass and says "I don't want to play bass" - a one in a life time kind of moment... He was a great friend... a great mentor... and just a full-on rock star... I didn't find out till just lately... thank god I was there that night...
anybody can tell me please what device is that on the piano? it appears in the very first seconds of the video (like a electronic tool for storing sheet music)
he was a great guy a huge musician and a giant teacher ... i still can remember him trading my trb 6 for his fodera during the lessons ... i was always like - man this is a fodera dude mine is just a 1k$ bass - and he was smiling ... doesn't matter theo i like your bass ... i'll miss you dave ...
This guy was responsible for many bass players' suicides!

Now, that was amazing!!! He deserved more recognition. Why doesn't Bass Player magazine do a serious write up on him?
