he fans made couple of versions. We got 200 slot server that is full most of the times, And like 50-100 new ships inclusive battleships for the most factions and new house called Gallia. @trasggoo the hispania sleeper ship crashed before it reached its planet the corsairs and the outcasts the hispanias decendents u can still find it in omicron alpha i think the wreck of it
1) they made the nomads a LOT weaker in the final version (roughly on par with the colonials, better weapons but no shields etc. and they certainly didn't have star-busting capabilities). it's a pity, here the nomads are real badass
2) HUYGE inconsistency with Starlancer: in SL the Alliance was winning against the russians, now in FL they're losing with no explanation as to how or why
Over 200? Try more like nearly 20,000! I'm serious. Go look up their forum. I've been playing the mod for years now and they're still active to this very day - very heavily I might add. :)
Wow- I'm... Just stunned. I started playing this game a long time ago and I have never seen or heard of this version of the intro. So glad I stumbled upon it on YouTube. All this time and I never knew the depth of the background story, never realized that the colonies were supposed to be all that was left of humankind. Wow.
I bought this game new only a few weeks ago because it was so awesome and it runs on my XP computer. In my opinion, there's no reason the Freelancer community should ever die.
I had played this game for nearly 3 years , this is really a classical one , in 2009 ,I tried the first mod V1.101, very difficult ,few month later ,maybe after the NMT ,I played mod 485 ,mod starwars ,mod nomad revenge , up to now ,i still confirm this is a very excellent game regardless of its publishing time ,........i'm a chinese ,my english is really poor.....
For all those who miss the game, why dont u go redownload the game again? torrent it or something, i recently went to download it agian, it was simply the best space game ever, but not complete without discovery mod, with the discovery mod, about 100+ more ships were added, from the starflier to the Liberty Assault cruiser. u can also bypass the freelancer servers that were down permanently, with discovery mod, to play multiplayer.
I remember spending many many hours on this game, both in campaign and online... It was my first real space combat adventure and to date, still the best in my opinion. I should play this game again, I wonder where I put my CD.

Err, I don't remember the nomads? Longest I got in to gameplay was when I was going to get help by the guys with the green ships, the rebels. After my friend(s) had been destroyed in an old abandoned spacestation by Liberty fighters or something like that.

@DoctorDreh1988 That's correct, that's one of the various easter eggs hidden in Vanilla FL. Like Johannes9126 said, the Monkey Universe mod is based upon these planets.
@DoctorDreh1988 it's an easter egg with no connection to the storyline.there's a mod,anyway,wich makes a deeper digging into the monkeys,it's called "Monkey's Universe".Pretty nice,it's about Robots(on Gammus,the ice planet near Primus),the Order and the Monkeys uniting against the blue thingies.It's multiplayer too.
Lol @ all the people who think this is fake. This was the original intended opening for the game, when production problems forced them to change the story, they had to edit this version down rather than waste money on new CGI. The reason why there is music from the OSTs of Alien and Predator is because it's placeholder music. Music chosen by the writer or director so that the composer has an idea of what his original score is expected to feel like.
I have the extended intro on DVD, and there's some different stuff, primarily with the sounds. It sounded much more like the final intro, and the ending Freelancer title screen was accompanied by a better score of music.

Nomads have become a large part of the Discovery RP server, though they have changed quite a lot. This game was good, still is decent, though the MP is so much better.
Discovery mod adds tons of ships and systems among other things, much better all round. The MP is engaging and constanly changing. Worth a try!
everybody look up Black prophecy, the new freelancer(not really, but its very similar.) it has great graphics, and its FREE. Please don't take this as spam.
@SelkitFox according to what i read freelancer was changed a lot when microsoft bought the comany which was developing freelancer, which is the main reason why freelancer didnt get to shine as bright as it could have done. pretty sad really. freelancer had a big potential
so the solar system got destroyed then and there. and here i was thinking that the plot for freelancer 2 (if it ever comes out) was all about the colonies taking vengeance on the coalition... oh well!

@stukahen well in discovery fl the coalition hitched a hike in the hispania destroying its engines... some coalition survived and fled to one map somewhore south of sirius... just last night there was a big fight between the corsairs and the coalition over planet crete!
@stukahen Well, it might have happened, might have not. Either way, it's safe to assume the entire solar system is stardust. When you watch both versions, the shorter one lacks some things, like what that ship that approaches the docked sleeper ship is, when we know it's the ship of the man that survived to tell the story. Which apparently, only The Order knows of.

This was a version of the origional planned intro during the games early/middle stages of development, Note the placeholder Music, For example James horner music from both Aliens, and Star Trek II - The Wrath of Khan.
It was shown at the E3 Gaming convention.
It was however altered and shortened for the release candidate as the idea of having earth's fate and the Nomads as an unknown quantity was more dramatic and benificial in storyline terms. (ie Dramatic effect)

And no, you don't "play like" Freelancer, for instance, you MUST use a joystick, since playing with a keyboard is not only insanely hard, but annoying and irritating, and there's no mouse control either. But it's an amazing space sim, probably one of the best of it's kind.
I found Freelancer worse than StarLancer due to it's so many differences, for example, the immersion in SL is amazing, and FL isn't as much. Not to mention, FL missions are not as good.
@MrConnorStu same here, i originally thought the dam'kavash had created the nomads in the sirius sector in order to protect it, then when the colony ships arrived and people started exploring, they disturbed the nomads... i guess i was wrong :/
It was probably not used for Copyright issues. The theme when the Nomad wepaon fires is the 'Combat Drop' theme from Aliens and then at the end is the Predator theme ( a few seconds of the ending ). Just a guess.
They must have changed more than just the intro - in Freelancer, they say, that the nomads where awaken by rheinland. At the time of starlancer, rheinland didn't exist yet.
Nice intro btw., but it whould have spoiled by far too much.
Only problem with this game that I had was trying to find an online game. Even with the global server workaround mod and/or the Discovery mod, just got "Connecting to global server..."
Once I installed Discovery, patched it, etc. I got that... it only lasted a few hours, mind, then it worked.
Sometimes that happens, I don't know why, just make sure you have the latest version of discovery, Freelancer Mod Manager and a patched version of Freelancer and you should be fine.
The servers also show up on the LAN list for me, for some reason.

This game intro goes beyond epic, i would even call it epictacular.
I freaking love the part from 1:06 to 2:58 almost brings me to tears, powerfull visuals, sounds and voice cover make this intro amazingly epic.
We need more games like this one, and for Microsoft cancelling Freelancer 2 for xbox was the greatest mistake mankind ever did.

Nomads have become a large part of the Discovery RP server, though they have changed quite a lot. This game was good, still is decent, though the MP is so much better.
Discovery mod adds tons of ships and systems among other things, much better all round. The MP is engaging and constanly changing. Worth a try!

@SelkitFox according to what i read freelancer was changed a lot when microsoft bought the comany which was developing freelancer, which is the main reason why freelancer didnt get to shine as bright as it could have done. pretty sad really. freelancer had a big potential

@stukahen well in discovery fl the coalition hitched a hike in the hispania destroying its engines... some coalition survived and fled to one map somewhore south of sirius... just last night there was a big fight between the corsairs and the coalition over planet crete!

@stukahen Well, it might have happened, might have not. Either way, it's safe to assume the entire solar system is stardust. When you watch both versions, the shorter one lacks some things, like what that ship that approaches the docked sleeper ship is, when we know it's the ship of the man that survived to tell the story. Which apparently, only The Order knows of.

This was a version of the origional planned intro during the games early/middle stages of development, Note the placeholder Music, For example James horner music from both Aliens, and Star Trek II - The Wrath of Khan.
It was shown at the E3 Gaming convention.
It was however altered and shortened for the release candidate as the idea of having earth's fate and the Nomads as an unknown quantity was more dramatic and benificial in storyline terms. (ie Dramatic effect)

Fighting alongside the last of the Alliance when a giant Nomad ship would come and destroy everything would be the greatest moment in the franchise.
Why didn't they include one very last mission after destroying the Javelin in StarLancer?!! D:

You shouldn't. YOU MUST.
And no, you don't "play like" Freelancer, for instance, you MUST use a joystick, since playing with a keyboard is not only insanely hard, but annoying and irritating, and there's no mouse control either. But it's an amazing space sim, probably one of the best of it's kind.
I found Freelancer worse than StarLancer due to it's so many differences, for example, the immersion in SL is amazing, and FL isn't as much. Not to mention, FL missions are not as good.

@MrConnorStu same here, i originally thought the dam'kavash had created the nomads in the sirius sector in order to protect it, then when the colony ships arrived and people started exploring, they disturbed the nomads... i guess i was wrong :/

It was probably not used for Copyright issues. The theme when the Nomad wepaon fires is the 'Combat Drop' theme from Aliens and then at the end is the Predator theme ( a few seconds of the ending ). Just a guess.

They must have changed more than just the intro - in Freelancer, they say, that the nomads where awaken by rheinland. At the time of starlancer, rheinland didn't exist yet.
Nice intro btw., but it whould have spoiled by far too much.

Only problem with this game that I had was trying to find an online game. Even with the global server workaround mod and/or the Discovery mod, just got "Connecting to global server..."

@Oscy I had that as well...
Once I installed Discovery, patched it, etc. I got that... it only lasted a few hours, mind, then it worked.
Sometimes that happens, I don't know why, just make sure you have the latest version of discovery, Freelancer Mod Manager and a patched version of Freelancer and you should be fine.
The servers also show up on the LAN list for me, for some reason.
