Really excellent spinning for 9 months! much better than i was after 9 months...you kids learn so fast these days. looking forward to seeing where you're at 9 months from now.
In fairness, we've got a lot more resources at our disposal, the poi community is ever growing, and so are the learning resources such as tutorials. There is still a bit of a gap which I'm trying to fill with my tutorials, but all the same, there are moves available to us that weren't even around previously, and new moves are popping up fairly frequently still. I'm a big fan of your videos by the way.
yea, im only three months in and just from tutorials alone i have been able to master moves that took one of my friends much longer to get down. i dont know if i just catch on fast, but ive basically been able to just scroll down all of nathanieleverist's and meenik's videos and learn them one by one. the internet is like having a personal teacher-in-a-box. maybe il post a video after ive been doing this for like 4 or 5 months so i can get some feedback.
Not really, just make sure you're not wearing any synthetic clothing, so natural fibres like wool or cotton are good. Also, if the clothing is too thin, the heated metal can burn your skin through the cloth, so make sure you wear something nice and thick for added protection.
Um, it varies, but I'd estimate at least 3+ hours a day. It may sound like a lot, but to me, practicing poi isn't a chore, unlike other things I've had to practice throughout life. Even the mundane stuff, like learning new moves/combos is fun and indescribably satisfying once you start making progress.
OMG! AlienJon!! Man, you're such an idol of mine in the poi world, I watch all of your animations and try them myself, with mixed results. I love that video of you and Zan, your moves were so damn awesome, I've been trying to emulate them since, I'm getting there. Thanks for the complement on my tuts, bit by bit I'm developing a library. Thanks for the complement on my 9 month twirling also, I'm far better now, but it's still a cool video.

My God man, how much time did you practice everyday for those initial nine months to be that good that quickly?

Not half bad at all for just 9 months. ;)
I browsed a few of your tuts as well and they seem well presented.
