Has anyone seen this stadium recently? The paint and everything on the exterior is already chipping and falling off. Plus its not being used regularly so maintenance is down, the place is a dumb. But I guess the rest of China is too so that works!

I believe the official census puts Beijing population at 16 million but taxi drivers and professors said in reality more like 22 million with many construction workers, street vendors and others not officially registered living in the city. According to many people I talked to: restaurant workers, hotel managers, People's Army youth and officers many unauthorized residents were picked up and required to remove themselves from the city during the for the games. residents had returned. ....
Over a million youth from all over China came to Beijing to assist the athletes and the foreign and Chinese tourists. And assist they did with anything required over and above the call of duty. They were also very open to discuss the problems that China faces as well as were very proud of its accomplishments. This building is very impressive closeup, I got to see it first hand a year ago, I lived within walking distance from it for a total of 6 months over the period of a year and a half!
It is amazing the changes I saw in just that year and a half I went there, BUT the heat is stifling and the air is horrible!
I wonder if the Chinese government will continue with this humanitarian effort (cleaner bathrooms INCLUDING T.P. and soap) after the Olympic tourists leave. This building is very impressive closeup, I got to see it first hand a year ago, I lived within walking distance from it for a total of 6 months over the period of a year and a half!
It is amazing the changes I saw in just that year and a half I went there, BUT the heat is stifling and the air is horrible!

I wonder if the Chinese government will continue with this humanitarian effort (cleaner bathrooms INCLUDING T.P. and soap) after the Olympic tourists leave. Despite that, China does have a few things up on other countries. They ONCE had a piracy problem and the way they handled it... Well, that crime has been stopped. I like their no bull policy in regards to a few things. Anyway, I hope the Chinese people have a better life after the Olympics are over.

Actually the restroom issue is only a problem in public places!
First off there's over 13 million registered people living in Beijing, there's probably 2 to 4 million transient workers with no home, they live in tents, under bridges, in the buildings they are building!
Most public toilets in Beijing are squaters not sitters, too much room for error!
If they provided T.P. and soap in public restrooms it would just get stolen!
It's still a great place to visit!

I never have been there. It would be great to visit other countries, in this case the city of Beijing. If it were possible, I would pre-plan the trip... I would pack rolls of Toilet paper, sanitizing seat wipes, paper seat covers, and soap.

I heard on the news that China is upgrading their nasty, dirty and smelly restrooms. They are cleaning them up for the 2008 Olympic tourists! They are adding luxury amenities. Two of which will be soap and toilet paper.
