i use to like the gracies...then i actually started doing martial arts....ya these guys might have helped the sport, but they quickly became irrelevant, if the butt scoot didn't work in Pride they had nothing. and they are pompous assholes that seemed to have brainwashed people into thinking they can learn from dvds (gracie combat). What could he possibly have done in this fight with the old rules? His BJJ skills are simply not good enough to overcome the physical strength deficit between the 2 (which is a testmament to Matt's hard work over the years).

He got beat at his own game, and the only reason he didn't lose by submission is because Matt said he didn't want to break his arm.

All respect to Royce, but the Gracies have been unsuccessfull in modern MMA not because they aren't masters of jiu jitsu, but because they are masters of jiu jitsu only. They have failed to adapt to the sport that has changed around them. Their jiu jitsu is great, but well rounded they are not.
