Can someone please explain how exactly she became Pharaoh? She was daughter of Thutmus I? (Sorry can't spell xD) and Thutmus II = the son of one of her father's wives? (step/half brother?) And Thutmus III = ? Also, what exactly were her accomplishments, besides all the monuments? Please be kind! Thanks.
@HistoryLover1550 they should do a virtual facial reconstruction on her skull. It doesnt seem fair that she's going to be remembered as obese, and with bad teeth. She was fifty when she dies, and yes, we expected Beyonce and got Pat Butcher, but I'm sure she wasnt always like that :-)
@MultiDean75 I agree, her facial reconstruction would be an interesting episode on the tv show "Death Masks" judging from the statues of her, Hatshepsut was a beautiful woman in my opinion.
@xelanesqueHQ I've just heard the director of HBO's 'Rome' is going to do a new series called 'Pharaoh' and it will take place during Hatshepsut's reign! It will be on tv in 2013, i can't wait to see it :)
1) Hatshepsut mummy has been identified recently as the one of an obese toothless woman.
2) The defacing of her monuments only occured nearly 20 years into Thutmosis III 's reaign, at the time where he was coreigning with his son, Amenhotep II.
3) It seems women could have a lot of power in the 17 and 18 dynasty (see the mother of Ahmose for example) and Amenhotep II wa maybe fighting against possible women pretendants to the throne. Hence the defacing...
@DeusVivus I've also heard of the ascension theory. I have heard the rumor that she wanted her daughter to inherit the throne... So if she put int mandates, then one way to overturn that would have been to erase her.
"Hatshepsut put mandates..." "Who? We have no pharaoh by that name, so therefore this person's mandates of ascension does not matter"

Interesting yet outdated video :
