  • Too much protein is hard on the liver. You have to be balanced. Why are we always looking for the quick fix. Amazing.

  • i used to walk 5km a day and then sit on my ass for 10 hours playing games eating junk and i lost 15 kilos in 1 year..for siting on ASS

  • Well, too much sugar does raise insulin levels, which can make it much easier to get fat. However, everything in moderation in my opinion.

  • thank youuuu so much steve i watched couple of your videos and it's actually great for me it's teaching me about the basics of the bodybuilding that we all actually need it

  • Refined sugar should be limited in your diet though.

  • i think what they may mean when they say "i'm cutting out sugar" is that they're reducing or eliminating the amount of processed, simple sugars in their diets, therefore stabilizing their blood glucose levels and reducing the amount that is stored in their fat cells... i think... but as you're saying, you still need to have your muscles utilize the sugars that are present in order to insure that storage doesn't occur... right? haha.

  • if I just walked an extra 4 miles a day & nothing else should I be able to lose body fat all over? & is it true that muscle weighs more than Fat? & if so how do I chart the correct loss of body fat taking into account the muscle volume gained by the extra exercise ? (in my case the walking)

  • I'm still waiting to love my body.

  • @jennypicalo1 Listen to the free seminar on my website! It will help.

  • Cane sugar messes with your blood sugar which makes your body produce more insulin which makes you gain fat, i stopped consuming added sugars and lost a good deal of weight.

  • im skinny and i eat fat, suger, anything just exercise and burn it off hello

  • Growing up with a doctor in the house, brown sugar was never shunned.

Throwing a spoonful of brown sugar on, say, some raisin bran cereal once or twice a week is not going to kill you -- it was never banned in my otherwise health-freak house. Pop, candy, chips, fried foods, etc. however, will.

True, an apple or banana is a better way to get your sugar fix, but there is such a thing as a replacement, and then there is a supliment -- fruits sadly are the latter in regards to sugar.

  • sugar is proceeded, stevia is the all natural sugar :)

  • Live and let live. Do you know how many people in this world are living their lives through some misguided information? Remember everyone use to believe the world was flat and the only reason we know it isn't is because we've seen a picture or video. Something many trust.

  • yea but if u get ur sugar from fruits and veggies its way different than plain sugar.. and like doddsalfa said right here.. white sugar isnt a natural product.. this fool is off his rocker.. u should get ur sugar from fruits and veggies.. its the way nature intended.. not processed sugar..

  • I think you have missed out the point about refined sugars and the fact that insulin spike that rushed the nutrients through your body. Im not saying dont eat fruit and go too low on carbs .... but seeds and pulses are a far more efficient fuel source. and when dieting we are wanting to avoid fast carbs simply for the fact to avoid storing fat

  • refined sugar will spike your insulin and contribute to metabolic syndrome

splenda = aspartame = neurotoxin, cause of cancer and it makes you fat

carbs from fresh fruit is ok for most people

  • One thing: According to the FDA, "natural" is undefined.

Someone may be interested in that tidbit...

  • steve nash cut out all sugar in his diet helps him age slower

  • All of these bodyperformence videos have the best advice!

  • So true sometimes i feel like the only 17 yearold who knows how to read a nutrition label and understand it.

  • I have a question.I have been lifting weights 6 times a week intensly and cardio 4 times a week intensly, and have been loseing 1 pound a week. But some how I went form 171 to 165 in two days.I dont understand what happend.

  • @chrishurt95 you also lose weight when you sweat or pee it is water weight most likely

  • You're a bodybuilder - you need sugars to gain muscle... But to become lean you do need to follow a lower carb diet.

  • Sugar addiction is due to chronic neurotransmitter deficiencies. The solution is a 100% pure amino acids supplement (i.e. no fillers, no additives, no sugar/stevia, and manufactured at very low heat). Such a product is called AMINOKIT Recovery Formula and can end sugar cravings in 24 hours. The above product has been used in drug rehab centers for 15 years to end cravings for not only refined sugar but cocaine, heroin, alcohol, and other drugs. Avoid sugar and achieve fast, healthy weight loss.

  • I have diabetes, 5'6 and 230 pounds and on insulin. what can you suggest to me?

  • either way im not watching his vids :)

  • there is good and bad shugars. good and bad carbs ect. cuting out bad shugars is definately good. so idk this guy may know what hes on about but he doesnt explain well...that or he just plain doesnt know :)

  • splenda is really bad for you and white sugar is horible for you, this guy is a douche

  • @Keeperz1 you dumb fuck ye its bad for you but you can still lose weight when eating them you fucktart, i eat ehatever the fuck i want an i gain muscle an probably can run a better mile than your dumbass

  • @inofe diabetes doesnt care if your skinny or fat , fit or a couch potato

  • @premium1823 yes it does, its just that fate/god fucked you over iff your fit and have diabetes lol

  • Human bodies require some sugars to convert into Glucose, and therefore, you'll get some energy to move around at someplace.

  • If you cut carbs completely from your diet and stock up on protien would that help lose fat faster? Along with daily workouts of course

  • @DudeGuyShow No. Carbs and protein both have 4 calories per gram. SO increasing one and raising the other cancel each other out. A lower calorie balanced diets will always be the best.

  • @BodyPerformanceTV Didn't know that, thanks!

  • @BodyPerformanceTV protein makes you feel fuller faster than carbs which will help you eat less which equals less calories ( i just read a recent study on this )

  • @premium1823 so dose fiber...

  • @DudeGuyShow The information he has provided to you is incorrect. Sugars from all sources elicit an insulin response in the blood when taken in. The more you eat of carbs (which are sugar) the more insulin. Insulin controls fat tissue. High insulin levels prevent release of fat thus , high carbs for majority mean no weight loss. Carbs also provide glycerol 3 phosphate without which we cannot store fats. New research links fructose with more than weight gain but disease. Search taubes or lustig

  • @DudeGuyShow I should add that eating fats and proteins do not provide this insulin response. Further research has shown diets low in carbs and high in protein allow for longer periods of satiety (feeling full)longer High carbs diets to add to what i said in previous comment do the opposite, the high followed by very quick low sugar in blood cause cravings. Always be aware of someone selling you an easy answer for a very complex issue. This calorie in and calorie out is symptom rather than cause

  • @DudeGuyShow you need carbs to burn fat properly buddy its part of something called the krebs cycle. if you have vegetable carbs which dont have an insulin response it is a lot better but you would need a insulin triggering carb meal probs every couple of days to replenish glycogen stores. carbs and protein have 4 calories a gram each...But!......20% of a protein sources calories are burnt up just in digestion and carbs only 5% so ideally protein is raised and carbohydrate reduced.

  • Short, to the point and nicely said. Subscribed :)

  • LOL - sugar is a natural product -- You dont see sugar crystals growing on trees -- white sugar is heavily refined..

  • Hey thanks for the video , what is better : reduce fat intake or reduce sugar intake?

  • i've lost my belly fat in less than a month of lower carb eating. LOW carb, not NO carb. I've seen an enormous positive reaction in my body through this, compared to my last effort to ditch the belly fat, when I tried eating less and excercising more.

everyone reacts differently to everything though, I believe that

there are studies to show that are body dosnt need carbohydrates at all the function

    just sharing my views :)

  • @smittyletsgo here are studies to show that are body dosnt need carbohydrates at all the function"

We all need carbohydrates to function -- however the question is where we get them from -- carbohydrates from fruit and vegetables is far superior to carbohydrates from sugar.

For instance eating a big pile of vegetables is much better than say drinking a can of coke even though they both give carbohydrates...

  • @badpanda84 yeah agreed, i'm just more of a believer in lower carb eating compared to low calorie. That's not to say I eat no carbs, we just might not need as many carbs to get through the day as 'experts' say.

I'm not on a strict paleo plan, but some people do swear by it, and they have results to prove it.

  • i need to cut out sugar my teeth are getting very sensitive to cold even if i brush everyday

  • so if i cut out excess sweets then I should drop weight and possibly get rid of the loose skin on my stomach from losing weight? Also, by cutting sweets out am I kinda detoxing my body and I wont want sweets as much?

  • Wouldn't cutting the "White stuff" as you called it reduce the carbohydrates intake and as a result reduce calories ??

  • natural carbs are the best source of energy

  • This guy is an asshole in a good way i love it lol

  • @YyJoBb Taken before puberty they can stunt growth.

  • what if i just ate lean meats and green veggies! im getting my carbs and my protiens...im set!

  • obviously this guy knows what he's talking about.!

  • I was told that you should only consume 32g of sugar a day. I don't think that is possible with the amount of fruits, carbs and vegetables the US gov wants us to eat or has listed as the amount to strive for. Am I right?

I do try to limit my sugar as both Type I and Type II diabetes run in my family. I don't drink sodas or fruit juice. My liquids are water first and foremost, hot(unsweetened tea), skim milk and V8(low sodium). I do have a fierce craving for Nutella every now and again.

  • Is splenda good for you?Or should you stick to natural sugar?sorry if its a dumb question...

  • @ReginaVenus Splenda is safe if you like the taste.

  • @BodyPerformanceTV These artificial sweeteners trick the mind to release insulin in the body regardless if there's no sugar being consumed. Not to mention that their are correlation's with cancer and other diseases, i'm not expert but just be careful.

  • @Raybee sweeteners are really just the waste or shit of tiny organisms so when you eat sweeteners are eating waste or shit you do the math. They are ten times worse then sugar!

  • @BodyPerformanceTV Would you still lose weight if say you had a cookie or ice cream or chocolate, etc. or something of that sort a day but you exercise and burn the calories off, then would you lose weight? Can you really eat anything you want during weight loss, just as long as you burn it off?

  • It doesn't matter what's going in as much as what it's going in with. Sugar, corn syrup, honey, and maple syrup are chemically similar and our bodies aren't made to process them on their own. The problem with sugar and junk food is that it messes with blood sugar levels and gives poor and inconsistent energy. Fiber helps your body properly process this, which is why fruit is ok for diabetics. Fats aren't generally bad either, all surplus energy turns to fat anyway. It's important to eat natural.

  • white sugar isn't natural product.

  • @doddsalfa yeah and also not everything made by mother nature is healthy or edible for humans

  • @doddsalfa Your missing the point I think. Steve knows sugar is refined from sugar cane he's just making a point some people assume because they cut out a specific thing from their diet, they equate that with the reason they are losing the weight, which isn't the case. Watch his Snickers for Breakfast, Snickers for Lunch video for the point he is making.

  • @doddsalfa true and you get addicted to it.

it makes you want to eat more

  • What can I do? I work out 5days aweek for 90 minutes. 1hrcardio and 30 minutes weighs I do spinning classes, kwon Dow ,I swicht my cardio rutine but I don't loose nothing but my energy I feel tired all the time ,can u give me some tips please?

  • I want to know what you think about low carb diets, such as south beach or atkins ?

  • @rebecaalvarez36 Waste of time.

  • i cut out sugar from my diet when i want to shred up as much as naturally possible. But what i mean by that is extra sugar. Meaning, i dont eat deserts and sweets. I still eat normal food and fruit. But i stay away from adding any unnecessary sugars to my diet (temptations). Of course i also work out 5-6 days a week. Btw, i use honey in my morning coffee. Which was a tip i got from gentleman i know that competes in strongman competitions.

  • @trashbash2001 A bit of sugar in your coffee (or diet) is not going to hurt you or prevent you from getting shredded.

  • @BodyPerformanceTV collectively, doesnt little bits of unnecessary sugar throughout the day add up? I dont know as much as you about it, but if you want to maximize your results, what benefit would you get from added sugars in the first place? Arent you better off NOT adding it rather than ADDING it? If i'm wrong, please explain.

  • @BodyPerformanceTV i understand you have a business to run. And you're right, this conversation is getting to extensive to continue on youtube. But I'm not interested at the moment in taking the time to enjoy a radio show. But i couldnt if i wanted to cause i live in Hong Kong at the moment. Good luck with your show.

  • @ro66ie30 LOL,..he knows his shit that for sure. He's very well studied and sought out info from VERY qualified sources, like Covert Bailey on TOP of his prior education on this stuff. THAT is why I spend so much time on his site. Who else on You Tube can offer that?

  • what do you think about the post workout drink called Cell-Tech by MuscleTech that has 32.5 grams per scoop of sugar is it bad??

  • @PureBrutalSickness It's Ok. Gatorade is all you need.

  • nah he didn't cut out sugar. sugar is very important in exercise! you cant burn fat without it! it actually doesn't have that much energy in it, but gives you body loads. of course there are good ways to have sugar and bad ways but that is besides the point.

  • you sir have really big arms! any advice on how to get there?

  • I do love your videos but even I'm probably not the very best to show my "advances" as I've always eat what I need, sugar have a big impact (mostly as plain sugar, or HCFS, glucose is much better as it has lower impact) as you can get easily fat with it. It is added in a lot of foods, and if you eat milk instead milk with added sugar, all things will add up making you to get more. Also if you quit sugar, the extra calories that are added in almost same food ...

  • Great vid the first one i find on youtube that really talks about true and knowledge about the functions of our body congratulations keep up the good work!!

  • Steve, I love your videos... but you don't realize how much sugar some people eat in one day... easily 1/4 of my calories. If not more. If I cut them out, AND cut out my exercise... I'd probably lose weight. But I love sugar, and I love running, so they'll stay!

  • Aren't fruit or vegetables "better" fuels than plain sugar or rice and other starches? Is it possible to replace a good portion of starch in most culture's meals with vegetables and fruits (and get more roughage as well)?

  • First off, I love the videos; very helpful. However;

It's the form of sugar that one watches; not all carbs are created equal, yes all grams of sugar have the same calories, and net calories are what matters with weight loss, but refined table sugar like Sucrose is not digested the same as glucose or maltose. Glucose is a non-toxic energy, where as sucrose has the same effect on the liver as ethanol. I encourage you to youtube Sugar; the bitter truth; I'd love to hear your opinion on it.

  • @TetraUbik Sugar is half glucose and half fructose.

  • @BodyPerformanceTV I was aware of that; you're missing the point;

Just glucose is not digested the same as fructose. Fructose will end up as primarily citrate in the liver and be stored as fat where as the majority of glucose will not. Consumption of sucrose has a more negative impact on body composition beyond it's caloric value. Yes they are all energy but it's important to understand the differences.

  • when i say im not taking sugur any more im usually talking about not eating a half a cake evry day and stop drinking 8 cans of pop

  • I need a Pepsi!

  • well when you stop drinking 8 cans of pop a day and 3 donuts i think thats probably what their talking about. not a normal intake of sugar.

  • I don't eat processed sugar....Corn syrup, high maltose, hight fructose etc. So no ketchup, soda, cereals, and baked goods. The sugar that I ingest is the kind that is in oatmeal, milk, fruit, and veggies for example. so its cutting out processed sugar that helps because you eat less due to cutting out the processed sugar. Although really its just better for your body, its not necessarily a ticket to instant weight loss because its calories ingested, not sugar ingested.

  • @InvisibleMasquerade I agree with your approach. Processed and refined carbs/sugars like you mentioned really stimulate my appetite at the next meal and even beyond that. One meal of processed carbs make me feel like more of the same at the following meal. My daily calorie intake then soars because of this. If I keep to more natural foods I do very well on my diet and calorie intake: I crave nothing.

  • Glad to know I can still have sugar lol

  • Did this guy say he only cut 1 tsp. of sugar a day to lose 20 Lbs?! Wow... I think most people associate "sugar" with sucrose - although I don't think your body knows the difference between sucrose and fructose - and cutting sugar is more cutting desserts, candy and soda. I'm curious what you think about diet soda and the idea of cutting sugar. I've been hearing that your body still pumps out the insulin when you drink diet soda, which is the very thing you want to avoid.

  • i should follow youre adwices and eat only 600 grams of glucose every day! im sure ill stay healthly becouse i wont eat too many calories as you say in youre videos! Grazie amico! :/ btw do u know that some people are sensitive to insuline?

  • you know what's funny? how idiots keep saying all doctors and dietitians are wrong, and that atkins is the one right.. is amazing how retards get brainwashed these days.. this country is lost, only the few like yourself and others are actually going the right way on nutrition. It just pisses me off to hear people who never even studied nutrition and probably don't even know anything saying all dietitians are wrong.

  • @justlegal21 I totally agree! Theres also more great info on my BlogTalkRadio show. Go there search & Steve Turano. The show can also be downloaded from iTunes. The most recent shows can also be heard on my website home page (at the bottom) once they upload. Tell a friend! ~Steve

  • @justlegal21 people who don't like atkins diet don't understand the biochemistry involved. they must educate themselves. in a nut shell... sugar causes pancreas to secrete insulin

Insulin the bad (when it comes to fatloss)

LDL (bad cholesterol) receptors are INCREASED in adipocytes (fat cells) by.. insulin! it simply makes you STORE MORE FAT

Also,Glycerol-3-Phosphate (G3P) is the backbone of triglycerides (fat). and it is an intermediate of CARBOHYDRATE metabolism, NOT fat metabolism!

  • @topheramazz lol ok. People like me, who don't like the atkins diet is because they know exactly the only reason it works. Do you know what insulin is? I'm sorry, but if you say insulin is bad the one who needs education is you. Without insulin, you would be diabetic, and if you didn't get any you would die. So please do your "research". Insulin is always needed same as glucose. Insulin is what gets your glucose to your muscles for energy, and to fat cells when you exceed the necessary amount.

  • @justlegal21 Thats why i put "(when it comes to fatloss)" after that statement. it's ok i forgive you. i tried to put more info in relation to type 1 diabetes, glycogen stores and glucose but i was over the character limit. next time ill just abreviate everything.

im not all "anti carb" or anything but fatloss is a hormonal/metabolic issue not a caloric energy balance issue. im trying to help you ok.

  • @topheramazz well yea you made it hard to understand, and I do agree with you that losing weight has alot to do with genetics, if that's where you're getting at. But having a healthy diet is also a factor in having a healthy weight. Getting rid of carbs will just make things worse for your health. Don't you agree?

  • @justlegal21

i would contend that genetics aren't as important as lifestyle but it's is a factor.totally cutting all carbs is almost impossible because some protein converts into glucose in the liver, not to mention how healthy(and tastey) vegetables and some fruits are. i'd try to keep carbs within a reasonably effective range for activity level though. excessive carb consumption will make many people lipogenic.

  • @topheramazz well everything in excess is bad and is one thing people don't understand, so they think carbs are bad when is the amount of food they're eating.

  • @justlegal21

i eat around 3000 cals daily(low carb) and dont gain fat.(i eat alot of fat)

i get all my new clients on high calorie, low carb diets and they loose fat.

if i cut my calories in half but ate 2/3 carbs i would gain fat and so would my clients although caloric intake would be restricted. sounds like it's crazy but it's not. it's biochemically explainable. try it yourself. try going low calorie(1500-2000) and high carb(200-300 g)....see what happens.

  • @topheramazz uh...R u sure you're not getting fat? please do a good test and check your body fat %. How many grams of carbohydrates, complex ones, do you eat a day? and also, I'm already on a high carb diet, not that high but is most of what I eat, and I'm in great shape, so, idk how what you say about carbs making you gain fat can be true. Your body needs glucose anyway, might as well get it from carbs and spare your protein for the important tasks.

  • @justlegal21

i keep my bodyfat around 6- 8%,im 5' 6" 180 lbs, 30 in waist, i eat 20 to150 g carbs a day, i weight train at high intensity 2-3X a week, and do HIT intervals 1-2X a week,MMA sometimes. most my calories come from fat,and protein. the body gets glucose from protein and from fat(in the liver-gluconeogenesis)- if you eat protein you wont lose muscle.are you 18-25? then you are able to eat anything and not get chunky, most of us "old dogs" cant :(

  • @topheramazz but guess what, protein was not made to give you glucose it was carbohydrates, protein is important to repair muscle tissues and other more important tasks in your body, meaning if your using your protein not carbs your body won't have the necessary protein it needs, & if you say that you'll just eat MORE protein, why not just doit the right way and eat good carbohydrates, less fat, and moderate protein. Carbs dont make u fat, eating too much of any macro nutrient does.

  • @justlegal2 -go and study "college nutrition", get a good grade, but please then learn what Certified Clinical Nutritionists know. I don't need to try to convince you of anything anymore, you wont listen anyway.good luck. i wish u the best.

  • @topheramazz " go and study college nutrition." Yes....I'll go now and study " college nutrition." Nothing like " college nutrition " to learn me a few things.

  • Comment removed

  • @brushfour44 if u get a weird comment, i meant it for someone else..sorry.

  • No that's Ok,...I know who it's for. Trust me justlegal, I know a few things and topheramazz knows even less. YOU however know more then both of us combined. The reason you know more then both of us is because you're specializing in that field and you're studying it at length and learning from professionals...to become a professional. I look to people like you for the correct answers so I can take that information and proceed on what I "know"..instead of what I " feel." Keep up the good work.

  • @justlegal21 You are correct justlegal21, low carb dieters pretty much NEVER have good body compostitions. They claim all sorts of stuff, but the reality is something different. I did low carb for 14 months,...ate PLENTY of protein, and the muscle and strength reductions left me in terrible shape. Bad body comp...bad diet.

  • @brushfour44 Hey thanks alot, glad to see not all of us are going down the drain, and I agree with you, I have yet to see anyone who lost weight on atkins that has good body composition. Is not their fault since they're brainwashed to blame doctors and never had any real nutrition education. Thanks again, and keep learning the facts, like Bodyperformancetv does.

  • Diid low carb when for 4 months in 1992-93. I also did it again for 10 months in 1998-99. I still have my eating and training journals from 1998-99. I lost 45 lbs in 10 months. I believe whole heartedly in the 1 lb per week weight loss so I don't rush things.Nevertheless, by the waist/scale measurements..and the mirror, I estimate that I lost 4-5 lbs of water, 21 lbs of fat,..and 18-19 lbs of muscle. My strength dropped through the basement. The mirror told me I was now " skinny fat."

  • @justlegal21 People complimented me for losing weight. I have to say, my hair, skin, fingernails ect. looked good. I'm guessing it was all the Biotin; I was eating so many eggs. But under my shirt I was weak and had terrible body comp. You're right justlegal,...you need carbs present to preserve muscle....AND carbs have to be present to burn fat. Any yes,...MORE then 50 grams per day.

  • @justlegal21 " your body needs glucose, might as well get it from carbs and spare your protein for the important tasks." CORRECT AGAIN!!! That's exactly right.

  • @abbarant 456 okay one big tip is to not stop eating. If you stop eating your body reacts by storing fat because it thinks you're starving, which you are. Instead eat healthy food every four hour or so and don't eat right before bed cause your body needs to ditoxify instead of digest food. Also weigh yourself weekly so your concious of whether or not you're gaining or losing and what is working

  • i want to lose weight i gonna stop eating completely!!!!!!!!!!! i am 17 and never had a bf because i weigh 240 pounds if u kno a sure way to get skinny that dosnt involve throwing up tell me plz help a fat girl out

  • @aberrant456 Yes, I can help you. I have a 1 hour audio cd that I sell for $10. It clearly explains how weight gain occurs and what you need to do to lose weight without having to do crazy stuff. If also covers lots of other myths like eating at night, BMI scale, body fats levels, etc. You can order the cd at our website GreatFatLossPill . c o m This is a great start and I want you to share the CD with anybody who might be helped from its information.

  • @aberrant456 don't stop eating or you'll just die... try not eating fried foods and a lil less of everything to start with. also go easy on the sugar. you should go see a registered dietitian.

  • thanks . you help a lots!

  • @marioflores768 I'm glad! Theres also more great info on my BlogTalkRadio show. Once there search Steve Turano. I had great shows 4-13, 4-14, and 4-16. The show can also be downloaded from iTunes. The most recent shows can also be heard on my website home page (at the bottom) once they upload. Tell a friend! ~Steve Turano

  • Saying you cant gothrough the day without sugar is complte bs. Your body van produce glucose by it self. carbohydrates are not essential.

I still eat some sugar in the form of fruit and vegetable because they are high in vitamins. but i dont eat crap like bread and pasta and shit like that

  • I have cut 3 sugars out of my tea for a year now. I use canderal and I prefer it then sugar now in my tea. I will never go back to it!!!

  • SILLY! Did you ask him if he cut out all sugar, including the less obvious?

I am starting my journey to cut out most sugar from my diet BY WHICH I mean no crepes, syrup and DUH of course not just "the white stuff I put in my tea."

I mean sugar in desserts and in jelly and white bread. I DONT mean fruits. Its not going to be easy, I get confused on sugar in cereal (good cereal, not cocoa puffs!) Does that count? That is the question I thought your video might answer but was thoroughly mistaken.

  • debbieniful, that's not really the point of this video. He's addressing sort of another angle on sugar....and peoples beliefs towards it and what they think it will do. If you want any help on food items specifically,...message me back. I'll give you the info you seek regarding natural foods, sugar and all of that. Neverthelsss....it's still VERY important that you understand this video.

  • It's not unnatural either. Like so many of these things, it require a sense of proportion. Without that, everythings a friggin' conspiracy theory. HFCS aint great...but it's not bad and it has very little or nothing to do with the rise in obesity.

  • There is nothing natural about high fructose corn syrup, that stuff is deadly, not because of its calorie count but because your body can't matabolize it properly. Calories eaten vs calories burned does not tell the complete weight loss story. What about how your body matabolizes the substances it takes in?

  • Sugar doesn't really do much for me regarding weight gain. I'm referring to simple sugars such as table sugar and high fructose corn syrop. As he said, sugar doesn't exactly contain a lot of calories unless you are consuming a lot of it (only 4,5 a gram). Breads and dairy products are packed with calories though, pizza anyone? If you're serious about loosing weight, then cut down both of those things, drinking diet drinks is nowhere enough.

  • Cocaine is also natural. Must be healthy then right? Naturalistic fallacy good stuff A+

  • you sir are a salesmen lol

  • True, but sugar is found in a lot of common foods. Even ketchup. Sugars are carbohydrates. Carbohydrates are one of the macro nutrients (fat, protein, carbs). An access of any of these isn't good; and it's most easily to get an access of carbs, because the American diet is SURROUNDED by carbs; white pasta, white bread, ice cream, anything sugary...all carbs. It's EASY to get an access of carbs. That's why cutting out ADDED sugar is SMART.

  • instead of saying, "i quit eating sugar", people should say, "i'm eating less." i know the secret to fat loss, "put down the fork!" lol jk jp...but really though. counting calories works...eat basically whatever you want, but just keep count of the amount of calories, 2000 calories a day if you wanna weigh around 200...1500 calories a day if you wanna around 150...do the math from there and you're set, don't even have to run to lose weight. plus you'll get toned up in the process, just lift

  • That is correct!! People make such a confusing issue out of getting lean. I simply cut the calories SLIGHTLY. Over time that adds up big time. I increase my walking slightly,...that adds over time big time. I don't actually count the calories however. I keep track of the volume of food that I eat daily in a journal. We're creatures of habit and you'll see that you eat pretty much the same volume...and even foods from day to day. I let the scale and the waist measurment do the cutting for me.

  • Steve,

    become a Beachbody coach!!

  • For ME, one sugary refined meal begets the next. It can start a chain of refined calorie heavy meals. It then takes either discipline, hard exercise or a long walk to get me eating right again. If I continue on without stop, my mood tends to drop, my thinking is not as clear and I get less done in a days time. This may just be ME. I'm sure a lot of people will not suffer this secondary effect. But even with all that said, if your daily calorie intake is less then you burn,..you will lose wieght.

  • I personally believe that your best chance at losing weight is through whole foods where the bulk and fiber are NOT removed. You tend to get more full and satisfied at each meal, GENERALLY for a few less calories. What's more is that whole foods will spike your insulin less and depending how sensitive you are to it, you'll tend to come to the next meal with your blood glucose levels on a more even keel. You'll tend to desire less or be satisfied with another healthy lower calorie meal later on.

  • 15 grams of sugar a day to maximise weight loss.

  • LOL...sorry to get involved,...but did you just recommend that Steve should listen to Leo Buscaglia?? Oh God,...that has to be a joke. Steve, try to hug yourself once a day. Tell yourself your good enough, you're smart enough, and gosh darn it,... people like me!

  • She is pissed because of his P90X video. Shes a wacko, dont, listen to her Steve

  • Steve, I know you are trying to help people. You seem to think I sounded angry. VERY sorry for that misunderstanding. I am not angry at all. I don't know why you are, so I was trying to help you. Leo Buscaglia is a wonderful speaker and I think you would benefit from him. As I said before, I wish you success. But more than that, I wish you happiness.

  • you should educate yourself about refined sugar....

  • That's VERY inaccurate!

  • I used to jog every day 2 to 3 miles, 5 days a week and weight loss was there but not how I expected it. now i'm jogging 2.5 to 3 miles, 3 to 4 days a week and loosing weight is much easier now because I avoid simple sugars (white).

  • @jcarlangas I think that it would depend on how much white sugar foods you were eating, e.g, if you normally drank cocal cola then switched to the diet version this would save 100s of caloires, also if you were putting 2 teaspoons in each tea with 6 cups a day then stopped, or if you swapped choc bars for fruit at snacks then again less calories. Also does anyone know why we talk about calories but here in Australia the food is measured in kiljoules?

  • whoa red flag....Despite the importance of working out, people should not be ignorant about the differences between unhealthy choices like polished grains and polished sugars over healthy choices like whole wheat, whole grain, raw sugarcane, agave nectar, and Stevia. The way you work out, in fact, depends on the way you eat. Simple carbs [in excess] are much more likely to make you crash, and in the long-term, diabetic, or even celiactic.

  • Amen! I think he needs to go a little more in depth about his discussion of quality carbs.

  • actually i've read studies that researched the difference in weight loss between people eating whole grains vs refined grains and the difference is negligible. sure whole grains have more fiber and are more natural, hence probably healthier, but as far as weight loss goes there isnt much difference
