  • Heart beat under, heart beat under...love that line.

  • manchester next month to see them doing this live

  • SUPERGARCIA VUELVE!!!

  • I have a very powerful memory of listening to this on my little radio, on the Annie Nightingale show, and thiking the chorus backing was the most awesome sound I'd ever heard. I thought it was synthesiser, but it's actually guitar harmonics, isn't it? Great song anyway, takes me right back to my yoof.

  • One of the best dance songs ever. Simple Minds hit it out of the park their first time , a classic if ever there was one.

  • supergarcía cadena cope

  • Thank you, Agnes Leticia for posting this on my LovePeaceMusex group on FB! You know I love Simple Minds, and I love this song! (~_*) Obrigada, muy querida! hugzzz and a kiss, from Melody Fox (aka the Princess of Rock)

    Love Peace Music

  • Nearly thirty years old and stills sounds as fresh as the day it was released - incredible. Credit to Jim and the boys but also to the genius that is Steve Hillage

  • Love the opening of this song.

  • Forbes was one of the best bass players of the 80s, much under estimated. He drives this tune without getting complicated. Simple Minds at their best was Sons and Sisters...

  • @Beelzebubbbbles totally agree sons and fascination was their pinnacle in my opinion.

    best bass player too,so fluid.

  • Wonderful!!

  • best simple minds song ever, fuckin classic!

  • MY FAVORITE DANCE SONG BY SIMPLE MINDS! :D

  • Glory days that came and went. RIP superb pop music like this.

  • This blew my tiny head on the Walkman in 1981. Still does. Always will.

  • Amazing sounds for the time. Top notch song. My favourite SM song was 'let there be love'. Check it out

  • this song began my love affair with simple minds.....I have this single on vinyl!

  • Ha ha, I think it's funny if you compare all the comments on different Minds songs, and if the band themselves are reading these, it may just dawn on them that pretty much everyone agrees they took a nosedive after New Gold Dream. Too late to change history now, and Jim & Charlie, we (mostly) forgive you. In any case it's great to listen to these great pre-Untergang songs.

  • first time i heard this version , did have the live album in 87 city of light seems like yesterday that i was 16 listening to sm

  • if u love this listen 2 theme 4 great cities

  • nostalgic brilliance

  • did he really marry chrissie hyde back then, my girlfriend back then was gutted, love this song and ghostdancing live reminds of getting ready on a friday when i was stationed abroad in the 80s and getting minging in lottes beer keller

  • Indeed thanks Top Gear (Going to Bethlehem) for reminding me this song. .

  • Thanks Top Gear for reminding me of this song

  • Muy buenas noches y saludos cordiales. 0 horas, 2 minutos; una hora menos en la comunidad canaria.

  • Europeans have always had a love/hate relationship with the US, condescending towards the nation's constantly impetuous behavior; jealous of its vastness and natural wealth; patronizing of its insularity and lack of history; but adoring of its ability to shine a neon light on the Western values that still link the New World to the Old.

  • @qarapalida say goodbye to the usa and wave in the chinese ! it will be soon be called the united states of the chinese republic lol and when it comes to real talented bands the uk pisses all over the usa period !!!

  • @sweetassugar69 Interesting

  • @qarapalida yes, but do people in the US know where Europe is ?

  • @jrazjraz Maybe some democrats do

  • Muchos españoles recordaran esta sintonia. Era la cabecera del programa deportivo de Jose Maria Garcia

  • Bangin bassline baby yeah!!!!

  • yeahhhh!

  • I have no idea what a "reptile man drop" is:-) BUT this is one heck of a track:-):-):-) Sheer brilliance:-) And yes, I was listening at the time:-) Thank you for posting this:-)

  • insanely good ... I wish we could exterminate all the current lame and derivative music and transport 80s music to the present

  • Magic song but what's the song about? And don't say Love! :-)

SM's lyrics are generally pretty obscure - is it just fanciful 80's pop nonsense or is there a deeper meaning to the lyrics?

I reckon it's about getting dumped by his girl!

  • @stihlboy1 So called poetry

  • @stihlboy1 its about coming to America!

  • New Gold Dream & Sparkling in the Rain, two master pieces from the 80's.

  • impressive

  • awesome. I've got the opening 20 secs as my ring tone - impresses everyone who hears it.

  • @miknikb

Cool...how do i do that ? would love to have it as my ring tone.

    please, pleas tell me.

    : )

  • @miknikb YOU MUST BE AN IDIOT

  • Genious Minds.

This star still shines brightly in the Simple Minds galaxy.

They totally owned their unique sound during the -70´s and -80´s, but with time this precious legacy would, sadly, diminish.

Their sound today is utterly foreign to me. Too commercial. The dynamism is gone, and that deep feeling has been lost.

But their earlier works are of such brilliant quality; they will sustain me a lifetime.

  • AMAZING !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Totally love the early Simple Minds. They started going downhill from "Alive and Kicking" on IMO.

New Gold Dreams is and always will be in my top 5 of all time best albums.

  • @tgeighties :-)

  • @tgeighties yeah the original album ,not the one kicking about just now..;)

  • @tgeighties They started going downhill when Derek Forbes left, straight after "sparkle in the rain". The comparison to U2 stopped at that stage as U2 stayed doing their thing while Simple Minds lost their way imo.

  • @Drweavil

You're probably right. Forbes was key in giving Simple Minds their unique early sound.

The thing about U2 is that they experimented too (Pop), but they were wise enough to go back to a sound that did not betray their fans who were there from the beginning. There were a few years in the late 80's and and early 90's when I refused to buy a U2 album....and I am sure there were many of us who thought they had sold out.

  • @tgeighties

totally agree with u mate,, downhill all the way after that.. also agree with... infact are you me?

  • @tgeighties Yeah, it is truly great! I really like Real to Real Cacophony as well!

  • @tgeighties wat can i say papendrecht holland

  • empires and dance-sons & fascination-

  • Good quality, superb music from the 80's keep on going Jim.

  • Always Loved The MINDS Always Will Their Music Especially Early Was Amazing Like This Classic

  • I love this song, Simple Minds & Peace, but why you posted in non music category? :)

I think you sent the trak into an intertainment chanal but

    no problem,

    non c'è problema,

è intrattenimento anyway you did it -.-

  • Totally agree!

  • totally agree, timeless classic. cool as f*** - what about derek's bass?

  • Comment removed

  • the sound of the 80´s simply fantastic, i remember i was the only one in my gang that liked it, back then, now they all listen to it!!!

  • this song is very good. i love it

  • quality

  • Fuckin' awesome all the way

  • Sheer class!!

  • 1ST simple minds track i bought classic!!!!!!!

  • Oh god I love this song. I love many of their songs. Jim Kerr was and is an amazing artist, love him.

They sure don't make music like this anymore. If I could go back to the 80's I would in a heartbeat. Wonderful memories of those times. God where have the years gone.

  • God spinning around and around in the Mudd club with me and my boy, black suits and 30's dresses and hats with veils, dancing and happy and teenage in new York in 1981 -- HEAVEN.

  • my favourite song in 80's

  • the only cd i listen all the way.

  • Kick ass- I haven't heard this for 20-odd years- live at the Barrowlands- sweating & jumping around like an idiot (Jim and everyone else) and loving it. Fantastic live band!

  • Agree - I remember when I first heard this in a club - immediately hooked - funny thing is that Don't You Forget About Me was probably the beginning of where they lost their way - but recently they've found it again

  • i totaly agree,I read Jim Kerr didnt want to do "Dont you forget about me",[written by some one else for them" he should have trusted his instincts, back in the day the minds were beyond cool, cheers George.

  • dead on

  • Supergarcia, en la Cope.

  • Great song !!!

  • i totally agree with the previous posts. simple minds were amazing in the early 80's but this tune takes the crown!

  • Great song, great song, can't think of anything else to write.... no one has ever made such great music....

  • oh yes, cut my hair, paint my face, break a finger, tell a lie......

THIS IS MY FAVE SIMPLE MINDS.....

CHEERS MATE AND THANKS FOR THE UPLOAD!

BLESS YOUR HEART, HEART OF STEEL...

  • Stourglassboy is right. I can remember a time when Simple Minds and U2 were pretty much tied as the best bands in the world. However, Simple Minds really went on a "radio friendly/commercial" path. They should have stuck with what they do best...like Depeche Mode did...

  • THE NO:1

  • Nice to see so many agree with me...

  • Taken from the album "Sons and Fascination", produced by the brilliant Steve Hillage, this, together with the second album realeased at the same time, "Sister Feelings Call", must rate as two of the greatest albums of all time. In the early 80's Simple Mind were as big as U2 and deserve to be so now. Awesome.

  • this is the song that got me into simple minds - that driving bass the obscure lyrics the music truly wonderful

  • LOVE SONG

    Masterpiece!!:-)

  • supergarcía jojojojojojojo

  • joder...que recuerdos super garcia

  • A lot of Simple Minds stuff didn't chart all that high when it was released in the UK. That must be because they were simply years ahead of their time. There can be no other reason for it when you listen to this.

  • lets try to keep it a secret...

  • Agree!!

  • StevieWasp is correct, this would rate well if released today. Awesome song.

  • This single resonated like crazy for me when I heard it on student radio back in the day. It still does.

  • Y yo que siempre habia pensado que esta sintonia se la habian currado ellos... y resulta que era de los Simple Minds!

  • yo tambien creia lo mismo hasta q alla por el 91 la escuche en radio 3!

"Buenas noches y... saludooos coordiales..." XD XD

  • Gran entrevista, el follonero es el amo, lo cierto es que este tipo no me gusta, pero le escuché una temporada, la sintonia esta chula, un saludo

    when we were young...

  • Absolutely friggin' awesome song :)

  • yep, top shelf stuff.

  • i sending this to my girl

  • what about a bouncing ball for the lyrics?

  • Shite is not excusively Scots, Canadians use it in conversation daily. Shite, I guess,

is the same as rubbish in English slang.

  • This is true. In Canada we do use it as a half-curse. If Napoleon Dynamite was Canadian he would say shite.

  • comienza supergarcia en la hora cero

  • Quality track. Miss the underground 80's..way better than this current day musical shite.

  • Shite is a scottish word. I am scottish.

    This is win.

  • i find scottish and irish guys hot. you're lucky to be born there

  • I sincerely hope you are female.

If not, your life is near its end.

  • sorry but shite is an Irish word, jock

  • That would be a mispronounced fail in your hilarious accent, such as shoite.

    Paddy.

  • doen't really matter mate, by the way how did scotland get on in the six nations???/

  • What just cause im scottish you think i know what they did in rugby?

    Couldnt

    Care

    Less.

  • and what isnt irish these days make a fucking claim to everything its BORING...

  • the minds are awesome and this version is the best yet.... most underated band of the decade

  • Love it!!!

  • 'kin awesome..i've go this on 12in but havent heard it for donkeys..nearly as good as Speed your Love to Me, imo.

  • Back in their heyday, NOBODY could touch these guys. no one even came close to their class and talent, not even U2, New Order, The Fixx, Ultravox or anyone from the 'New Wave' movement. Sad to say, their steam blew out when Don't You was released. A great movie backed it and the song in itself wasn't a bad song, but it was always a 'sell-out' in my mind. But I will always remember the amazing songs like this one.

  • This song is a MASTERPIECE!

  • crap, does this still sound good or am I just old. F'n brilliant.

  • awesome!

  • great bass again i wish i could play it louder

  • A fine song from a fine band

  • Amazing song ... they should have stopped their after "up on the catwalk" ...

  • Yes, this song and Premonition, Changeling, and, and , and...... Great!!!
