  • BANG!

  • danger track...lucky right drive hand pilot.

  • I was stood there at Oulton Park watching that. If I remember he was completely knocked out for a while after that one.

  • Burt wrecked this chassie R6-006 (it´s scrapped, not rebuild) at Oulton Park-1996.. Kind Regards//

  • was this 95? man burt was shite in the btcc!!

  • @dukeofstradone Burt was a very good racer in BTCC

  • why would u race a VOLVO their fukin slow

  • @MiguelFreita I can see from this comment you are either trollin, or a retard. I'm betting on the latter.

  • @EchoPark69 mate those cars were not slow ,did you ever see the estate they raced ...slow no.....sexy as hell oh yes

  • @MiguelFreita The only thing slow around here is you.

  • @bamzan NOT BEING FUNNY BUT HAD SEVERAL T5R VOLVOS ON THE ROAD ITH MY MAREA 2.0 20V ABARTH SO FUCK U TWATS VOLVOS R FOR OLD PEOPLE

  • @MiguelFreita And the Fiat Marea isn't? lol you crack me up...

  • @morgman43 ha ha least i have a car ( 3 acctually) and any of them will easily brease past any volvo

  • @MiguelFreita Read above, emo..

  • @bamzan lol Emo lmfao what a fuckin nob

  • @MiguelFreita fiat marea's are for even older people!

  • Oulton Park, I was there that day watching from Knickerbrook! Tough cars them Volvo`s!!

  • @KingboyD2008 yep i was there too when they took the car on the recovery truck it was covered up with the volvo car cover it was that badly damaged we feared the worst .....chilling stuff

  • Its Volvo, Its tough

  • big one

  • i was there a few years after this crash and Menu nearly ended up in the lake in his mondeo. New barrier was soon built running all the way down from turn 1

  • @jonahmoffatt yep he did in the mondeo best race series in tin tops, did you see the euro car that did end up in there

  • Thanks to SIPS!

  • Was Alain menu that pushed him off the track, cant remember if he got black flagged for it tho.

  • Apparently, he was in hospital for a LONG time after that accident

  • Its good he survived but Kelvin Burt was a piss poor driver, shouldn't of even been at Volvo, through their whole spell in the BTCC they never had a decent partner for Rydell apart from Harvey.

Will always be a legendary team in my opinion, loved the 850 Estate they first ran in.

  • Fair enough, but i thought the Lammers/Rydell combo when they debuted in '94 was a fantastic introduction into the series for Volvo.

  • @Draigon36 the 850 is a legend in the BTCC... i miss those races BMW, Audi, VOlvo, Mercedez... now the BTCC is not the same :(

  • I seem to remember that at the time, the volvo was the only car in the series to have the side impact restraints on the seat/headrest, after this, they all had them.

  • @HARRIER1980 cheers for the info, but what i hate is that we have to wait for something bad to happen in order for it to be mandatory, thankfully it was the cars that had the features to help protect the driver in this type of accident

  • That was a HARD impact, he was lucky that was on the passenger side and not his.

  • Lucky of not. Big stiffnes bars inside, not much different. Look how small the impact was even with that side to car. But still there is allways lucky :)

  • this car is for sale now! 70 000$

  • I know that BTCC cars are reinforced with Rollcages and the like. I'm not an idiot. What I was saying, was that if that had been a regular road-going Volvo vs. a regular road-going American car even though neither car would've survived, I believe that the driver of the Volvo wouldn't be as injured as the driver of a comparable American can(Ford, Chevy, Dodge).

    KW

  • This is actually true as my and most of the upper line road going 850's were equipped with side impact airbags FAR before american cars were, even on a similar price scale. So you are right. Viva pre-ford Volvos. Kudos.. you know yer schitt.

  • Thanks. I wish I had a Volvo right now!!! I've loved Volvo's ever since I picked out my families brand new 244DL way back when I was a young 'un (I'm 33 now). Hell, If I had about $9 grand USD, I could purchase a used 2005 Volvo S40i by the end of next week.

    Damn inflation.!!

    KW

  • @jsnsykes Volvo has been the first or among the first with many things safety wise, including three point seatbelts and as you mentioned side impact airbags. Unfortunately after Ford took over Volvo went downhill really fast, now they're not really best at anything.

  • This accident shows how tough a Volvo is. No american that I can think of would've survived that crash without massive injuries to the driver.

My Love For Volvos is Eternal!!! :)

    KW

  • Man, those cars were the best BTCC cars ever I think. The Renault of Menu, the Nissan on Leslie (RIP) and the Volvo of Rydell :) Those were the days

  • I was at that meeting at Oulton Park right opposite that crash. It took 20 mins to get him out after removing the both the doors. Its a shame BTCC is'nt as competative as they were back then.

  • From the first look it might look like a minor crash, but that was really a hard one. He survived only thanks to the safety equipment of his car. You do it on a free way, you have no chance...

  • how exactly does that ever look like a minor shunt? He was very lucky most of the impact was at the back door or else he could easily have been killed.

  • And he wa really lucky it didnt hit the other side of the car, as those TWR 850s were right hand driven.

  • i remember watching that lol

  • Me too. It's still insane !!!

  • same

  • he's the stig now though aint he

  • hey?

  • He was never the same driver after that crash

  • You're right, he wasn't the same, he got older than he was before it.

  • Yeah, but he was really hurt in this one. And it pretty much ruined his career.

  • His one yesterday was horrific. Someone put it up so i can see it again. Massive shunt, glad everyone (marshalls, spectators, driver, cameraman) were okay

  • God damn Alain Menu.

  • Oulton Park 1996

  • it was not as good as his one in the porshe carerea cup at thruxton yesterday!!
