In the past, African-Americans Linda Martell (who recorded for Plantation Records, the same label that Jeannie C. Riley was on), Cleve Francis, O. B. McClinton, and Stoney Edwards have recorded wonderful country records, as well as pop stars Aaron Neville (George Jones' "The Grand Tour) and Darius Rucker (Hootie and the Blowfish), who is doing well in country music. I wish these people had or will have the success as Charley Pride has (although Neville had many R&B hits).
@jbird11368 You know your stuff! Then there are all the black acts that have slyly or BLATANTLY highlighted their country influences musically: Bobby Womack, Lionel Richie, Joe Simon...ANYBODY that recorded for Stax or Hi Records. Because most black people in this country hail from or have roots in the South, it's only natural for us to be linked to country music...whether it was fusing it with blues...or whether Gladys Knight or Brook Benton were covering country songs about Georgia.
Very good song by Linda Martell; very moving. I like all sorts of music, but this would have been more successful as a country song had they toned down the drums.
I'd like to see a clip of her on The Grand Ole Opry.
I really love this song...can anyone tell me if I can purchase this on CD? I use to have this on vinyl...but it is long gone now!

@tituscrawford1954 Amazon has got it both as an MP3 album and as part of a larger box set devoted to Black country music.
