  • You are a true mechanic with that trick good job

  • @BillyInnes thanks for watching!

  • Thanks a bunch. I was just struggling with how to do it. I love free advice.

  • I HAVE BEED WORKING ON SMALL ENGINES SINCE I WAS 10 YEARS OLD AND I JUST TURNED 40 . THIS IS AN AWESOME TRICK ! I HAVE TRYED SLIDE HAMMERS AND A BUNCH OF METHODS BUT THIS IS THE WAY TO GO ... THANKS MAN !!!

  • Hey Don I love the idea and did the same but I still can't seem to get the armature off. The ratchet becomes extremely tuff to turn and I feel that I may end up breaking the armature instead. I also placed penetrating on the back side where the engine shaft meets the armature thinking that would help but it's really on there good. It is a 1973 5hp Briggs and is a red box looking type generator and no name. Let me know if anyone can help. Thanks

  • Donny,

Very well done, thank you for sharing. I just finished using your technique, including tapping the center of the armature. If you ever find yourself in MA/RI there is some cold beer or hot coffee waiting for you. Subscribed.

  • @babongo thank you

  • Thanks for posting this. I used this metter yesterday.

  • i just used a rachet strap when i couldnt use a bolt or anything else, i got a 2 1/2 horse genny at the dump! the fuel line came disconected, i poured gas down the line and it fired!

  • Another way to do this is with Hydraulics if you don't have a rod to put inside rotor. What you need is.. threads tapped just as done in this video.. Teflon tape and motor oil.. what you do is put the engine recoil side down.. (drain engine oil before doing this) and then fill the rotor shaft up with motor oil.. wrap your bolt with teflon tape so it can make a good seal.. then start turning the bolt in and within a few turns the rotor will pop off just as it did in this video.. but messier

  • @Outkaststormrage good tip man

  • good tip there.

  • lol just like me - it pops when you don't expect it or have something very important to say :D

  • kool vid thanks, always nice to get new mechanical ideas for future use.

    Ferd

  • Hey Donyboy, don't hit yerself in the lip with tools. It hurts!

  • @duffy630 lol

  • smart

  • Great video Don, I have a non working 7500 of this generator...perfect running motor, does this units generator still work? and I got your last reply too regarding the double pully thank you!

  • @carnivore10 i'm pretty sure the gen part of it still works, it would make a good parts machine

  • @donyboy73 Im off for 10 days starting on Monday so maybe Tues or wed I will drop in and have a look ok?..

  • @carnivore10 ok sure, just call me to make sure i will be home

  • Nice demo, Dony.

  • @spelunkerd thanks

  • thanks for another good one Donyboy.

My old Honda EB3500X generator was running great but I wasn't getting any electricity out.I found this online and it worked-To flash a rotor winding with an electric drill-Plug the electric drill into the generator receptacle-Start the generator-While depressing the trigger on the drill, spin the drill chuck in reverse. This will excite the field and the generator will now produce electricity and the drill will turn on.Hopefully this will help someone else.

  • @DiscountTooling good info

  • Thanks again Don, Sometimes you need to give a sharp "rap" to the bolt your applying pressure to. (in this case the bolt you are turning with the Ratchet) Get it tight, pull the ratchet off the bolt and give it a sharp hit with a small Hammer. The shock (along with the pressure) will sometimes release the hold of a stubborn tapered fit. Thanks Don, always looking for next vid.

Peace \o/, The Town Curmudgeon !

  • @TownCurmudgeon thank you

  • that was great info thanks like a clutch puller on sleds

  • I have been trying to get the generator of my Honda for a while, saw this video in the morning, used your trick and its now off. Brilliant :)

    Thank you

    Dan

  • nice vid

  • @mustie1 thanks

  • that made me jump

  • great video as always, keep up the good work

  • @pivotboy63 thanks for the support, please tell ur friends

  • @donyboy73 sure will

  • I even jumped when that armature poped off. lol

  • @RockinGuy1994 lol, i thought after, what if the camera was off, which has happened before, but i was happy it turned out good

  • haha, wow Good idea! just like a Pully remover!

  • Trickier then I thought! Nice video

  • @stlouissux9119 THANKS

  • Another great video....thanks.

  • THe windings were press on tighter than I expected, good job dony

  • Thanks this may come in handy some day. I think I would put a soft landing pad for it when it jumped off. Keep posting!

  • hay dony i need help with my echo ht lead i want to know if it unscrews off the coil because i want to put a new lead on cause the old one is cracked and i want to replace it?

  • @BriggsMower usually the wire is fused in the coil

  • @donyboy73 damm ill hace to check if it is what can i do iv already tryed heat shink and the cable didnt move.

could i rip the cable out and put a new one in or wont it work?

  • @BriggsMower what i do is solder them together, or get a new 5mm pice of wire and solder it to the old wire, then cover it with heat shrink, like 2 to 3 layers

  • @donyboy73 ok ill try that how do u join it with a nail or a screw? ill have a look at myne tomorrow case some unscrew iv seen one inn ur vids.
