  • I love Lea:)

  • Monique Wilson's voice sounds a lot more warmer, I like it. But Lea's voice is angelic.

  • I find it funny how the composer himself can't remember what part of the song is next at around @1:22. xD

  • perfection

  • this classy filipina figure is what the filipino showbiz is missing

  • why can't the philippines produce more of these kinds of talent? real talent.

  • awesome!

  • well said Lea :)

  • Her control is amazing. One of the most beautiful voices I've ever heard.

  • The only Asian Actress to win both the Tony Award, USA, and the Sir Lawrence Olivier Awards, UK, Congratulations Lea Salonga, that is quite an achievement, a big fan from Hollywood Ca

  • @SirCaseyHollywood Not just the only "Asian" actress - The ONLY ACTRESS to win all those awards for a single role.

  • did you notice, for both auditions here they show "to much for one heart", because it's such a beautiful song, and then they had to cut it out of the show...

  • it really comes down to what the directors and creatives want...seriously...these two girls are both so beautifully and equally talented! lea just happens to be more fitting in the eyes of the director and creatives...im not demeaning lea in anyway; she is my favourite singer and she is absolutely amazing!! but i can seriously see monique taking the lead role...wow

  • Watching this documentary, it was obviously Lea's low notes that trumped over Monique's. It was an easy choice.

Why can't we just be happy when we have countrymen who actually made it?! so what kung wala sila naitulong? kayo ba merun?

  • what's the song Monique sang in this clip?

  • @musical4yuko At 1:39 'Too much for one heart'

  • @musical4yuko Too Much for One Heart, which was turned into the duet "Please" in the show.

  • NAGSAMA TONG DALAWA NA TO..MGA WALANG MAGAWA SA BUHAY..KALA MO NAMAN TUMUTULONG SA MGA MAHIHIRAP...ENGLISH ENGLISHAN LANG...MGA PERPEKTONG BWESIT.....PWEEEEEEE....I HATE THEM BOTH..WEHHHHHH...

  • wla k kwenta tnitira mo c will.......

  • @megadeal100 yeah right, she thought that everything in her life is perfect...pweee..kala mo naman..la namang naitulong ang mga bwesit na yan...

  • I think the first time I saw Monique Wilson was in a movie with Sharon Cuneta and Sharon was manhandling her against a wall. Wonder what the name of that movie is...

  • WHY DOES SHE HAVE AN ENGLISH ACCENT! YOU'RE A FILIPINO, LEA!

  • @ilovekaiser It's American, you moron.....and that might be because she spent the first 7 years of her life in Los Angeles.

  • @Ellie8969 Angeles City is not the same thing as Los Angeles. Wrong country.

  • @HopeforHumanity1 My mistake. Soz to the other person. But it's still not an English accent!

  • @ilovekaiser,

  • @ilovekaiser and @Ellie8969 She lived in ENGLAND! She was born in the Philippines, but moved to Europe with her family when she was (I think) 7. She says so in an interview. Sheesh!

  • @RandomChara did she? reports i've read before say she spent her first few years in Angeles City, then moved to Manila. nothing was mentioned about her living in england. but if she said so in an interview, hmm... now i'm curious. maybe i should look it up somewhere.

  • @ilovekaiser english is taught in the Phillipenes usually by British people. And then she perfected her English in the US. She has a combined accent. Not so much these days though

  • Why does she have ENGLISH accent when she talks?

  • WOw\!

  • Me aged 15 singing ' I'd give my life for you' ..please let me know what you think

  • Amazing! Lea Salonga's voice like an Angel just like Chloe Agnew's.

  • Is there anything this girl can't sing? Wow! I love Lea Salonga. She is my favorite female performer. To me that's saying a lot with all the talent that is out there in the world. She can sing cirles around most anyone!

  • wow!

  • Wow, I lovee Lea Salonga, she's just so blessed to have such an amazing voice, talent and intelligence, and I AM filipino and really proud to be as well, but I just HATE how arrogant my race is. Seriously, it's so bad to go shout to everyone that " FILIPINOS ROCK," and that selfishness just ALWAYS circulates around my country especially when they have some kind of star like Lea who's INTERNATIONALLY known, esp. the US *Charice* and they start blabbing it to people about how 'awesome' we are D:

  • @BlueMJBerries It seems I have found a common soul. Thank you. I am the same as you, Pinoy and all, but I love Lea Salonga, whether we are born in the same country or not. I would love her even if she's french, english, or american.

  • @Infantcide You're welcome! Glad to hear it. And yes, it's just insane, how we're comparing RACES here when it isn't supposed to be so in the first place! This is what nationalism--too much pride for your country--does to another. -_-

  • nkapangangingilabot n audition...

  • I'd take either of them. Both are extremely talented and have beautiful voices.

  • Proud to be alien!

  • @kixcorner hahaha....

  • omg monique andl ea were so young both are good...and both are filipinos so be proud....monique is a better actress but lea is a better singer....

  • omg they both look so young hehehhee.. Lea and Monique hehhe

  • that is so cool! To see the casting process and rehearsals...wow. I'm really glad that they both got to be in the show!

  • Filipinos are really outstanding when it comes to singing

  • VIVA FILIPINA!

  • be proud being pinoy!filipinos are very talented, resourceful, flexible and happy no matter what!

  • Monique's voice is awesome too.

  • Great pronunciation! Even though english is our second language. Not to brag!

  • nice Lea ur so pretty~~^_^

    i love it!!~~

  • two very beauty girls...equally talented and equally amazing... <3<3

  • Lea's so beautiful and she has a beautiful voice. Lea is one of my all time big big heroes. I like her so much!!!

  • does anyone know if there's a full performance of lea salonga singing "too much for one heart" when she was around this age? i like her voice singing this song better when she was younger ):

  • was this is CCP right? wow

  • PROUD TO BE PINAY!

And of course Lea's voice is amazing!

  • proud to be pinoy!

  • If I had to sing in front of these people, i'd clamp up and pee in my pants. Lea's got it.

  • These two girls were chosen not only because of their terrific voices but may also be because of the true innocence they exude which they found only in the Philippines. This can never be duplicated again in our lifetime. so we must savor it now.

  • @atcroccas do you mean that no other ethnicity can have "true innocence?"

  • @jireneyoon atcroccas is speaking out of ignorance

  • @atcroccas you know you can be racist for the "true innocence" that you said can only be found in the Philippines.

  • @atcroccas "...the true innocence they exude which they found only in the philippines..." What a selfish statement to make.

  • @atcroccas Being patriotic is admirable but making false statements, tactlessly based on mere opinion and not on facts is idiotic. Expose yourself first to theater and other cultures to broaden your mind. Get yourself exposed and try to think before you speak.

  • oh common shut it off!! Im also filipino, pero korny na masyado ang reaction ng iba dito, lets be proud of her as a talent not keep on raising because they are filipino or not, let just be happy for them for being magnificent not because of raised or whatever!!! if we filipinos are talented then so be it, we should stop keep on to shout at it, let the people around the world fell, see and amazed not were the one forcing our raised to evrybody

  • @atcroccas Wow, h please don't push it too far, dude. That's selfish, consider the facts! Stop comparing other races to the Filipinos! 'True innocence' exudes in EVERY country, not only the Philippines! Wow, think before you speak! I would STILL love Lea Salonga just the same if she was Asian, Caucasian, African, you name it.

  • @atcroccas I couldn't agree more. Both of them have amazing voices, but Lea, such an angel and her voice is so pure :)

  • I just love u Leah! Ur a Singing Goddess! :)

  • I love Monique's voice as well.

  • The song is entitled Too Much For One Heart. It was omitted from the repertoire and was replaced by Please. Lea sang it in one of her Broadway Concerts. Loved that song too.

  • who know the song at the end of this clip that Lea sing???Please tell me

  • @kikiwingsw

\the song is called "too much for one heart" but it was taken out of the show and replaced by the song called "Please". You can see her sing the full version in one of her broadway concert DVD's with the red colored cover:)

  • Both have nice voices Leas tone is just angelicly sweet and she handles her voice much better than Monique That's why Lea was the obvious choice for the plum role of Kim

  • thanks for uploading this video.. i like lea and monique a lot.. lea has a voice of an angel and monique was very eloquent..

  • LEA SALONGA is AMAZING!!!!!!!!

  • That is kind of like a dream come true when you think about it: you and a childhood friend going to star in London in a musical together.

  • monique has a common voice....lea's has that sweetness of quality that is so rare.

  • There is another video of this in which someone in the seats yells at Claude Schonberg and the girl singing because Claude was trying to help her. What a dick?! "Were not doing a f****ing movie here?" is what he said and a whole bunch of other shit!

  • what vid?

  • the one who shouts is the director of miss saigon. he's the one in the red sweater chewing gum, next to cameron

  • and eyy i'm leah fanatic.. just in case u wanna know..

  • how old is she?

  • 17 i think

  • 0:26 is that David Foster?

  • yes

  • ofcourse!!! it is him...

  • It is not him

  • no not him.. look closely pare ;p

  • Comment removed

  • Lea rocks! she's so great.

  • Hmm! haha! Monique Wilson, she's a real asshole in real life!Ma ere!and arogant bastard.

  • aren't you charming. what's your axe to grind you pathetic person with no life.

  • Hey! patpong2000 are you a fan of Monique?your not in the inner circle where we live in like Monique are ou from Lasalle Ateneo asumption or Collegio de San Agustin like me my senior is Mikee C. and Kris Aquino do live in Alabang or Dasma?member of the Phil conservatoy? have you even attended parties with the Littons or Ayala's?Haha! if you only knew what she did in Megamall atleast there is no video cam,Matapobre! mayabang!she's not even that rich and famous that is why all of us witnessed WTF!

  • LEA SALONGA forever!!!

  • I think i know what incident your talking about aupian i think its in Greenbelt is that the washroom incident?Ppl think that they look wholesome and nice in TV they are also nice in person ,just like the Sott'os and even the presidentiable Lacson if they only knew how many ppl he ordered to kill bc he's a member of MISG,Back to Monique yep shes an asshole once in a while haha! in social parties, hey so your from CDeSA kaklase mo si Binay im from Dasma village.

  • No Binay is one batch ahead of us classmate niya sila Kris Aquino and Mikee Cojuanco, im from Alabang hills village and no its not on greenbelt its in Megamall, and yes its the washroom incident how she acted and trying to scold this 2 persons.

  • classmate ko sila... lol...

  • Lea Salonga is prettier than Monique Wilson.

I saw Monique Wilson in West Side Story last year. She was really gooooood!

  • what does is matter filipino or not?! let's not separate ourselves anymore! Be proud of the human race and not just your own ethnic race!

  • i totally agree , totally

  • let us celebrate being different from each other without putting hierarchy on each other's race. Time to move on and solve more complex issues in human race

  • @Palalalala22 i guess they can't really help but be patriotic,,, it's their right to air what they think, after all it's THEIR opinion...

  • they are both amazing singers... the best part is... they are both FILIPINOS!

  • ...and the very nice lady that played Kim in the Dutch production is also a Filipino! ...and is also very smart and now works for the European Space Agency!

  • @dutchpuppy2:

The German Kim Aura Deva was also a Filipino! Strange somehow, isnt it?

  • they sound similar but i think lea had that high note more nailed than monique but their both very amazing

  • and LEA excels more with her british accent...lol

  • They sound so much alike!

  • I really like Monique's voice also. These two were definitely deserving.

  • I think Lea was chosen not only because she looked more "asian", but also because she looked and sounded sweeter and more innocent than Monique. Monique did a great job but she sounds more "extroverted" and less innocent.

  • I agree with you! When I first saw this, I was like: Okay, that sweet girl has to play Kim - no doubt. And when I heard Monique sing I thought: She'd be great as Mimi! It's just Lea is more innocent.. I can't even imagine her as Mimi.. ^^

  • and i think also because LEA`s voice is more FIRM, STRONG but at the same time DELICATE, GENTLE, VIVID and PROVOCATIVE... just an opinion..lol

  • Monique is soooooooooo amazing. I cant believe it. Her storytelling makes me cry.

  • the musical Oliver (starring Rowan Atkinson, aka Mr. Bean), is playing right now on this very theatre where Lea and Monique auditioned for Miss Saigon.

  • Both of them have great voices. But I think the main reason why lea was chosen to play kim because she looks more asian (chinita) than monique wilson. Monique is very mestiza. she looks like an american. and the story of the play is all about vietnam/asians.

  • it will never happen. Lea is destined to be the Miss Saigon and a great name in Broadway scene.

  • I love that Too Much For One Heart song.

They shouldn't have cut it out.

  • you know why lea was chosen to play kim?

because the role kim really fits on her.. plus she looks more innocent than monique...

  • lea is so pretty when she was young

  • i actually she still looks almost exactly the same 20 years later. lea still looks so young for her age now and shes almost 40.

  • wow..! i knew Monique..weeh!! i didn't know she can sing that well! well, not until i knew she was a part of miss saigon..^^

  • sayang di kami nag abot sa London... he he he!

  • i really really like lea, im a huge fan of her, but on this video,it seems that monique had a better voice quality... just an opinion...lea sung "too much for one heart"

  • i really really like lea, im a huge fan of her, but on this video,it seems that monique had a better voice quality... just an opinion...

  • what was the title of the first song lea sang???

  • well, i have to say a friend of mine, a music school owner and performer herself, had a similar complaint about lea when performing a concert. i can only say that lea is a very subtle performer. she may not do dance numbers, but she expresses herself vocally, and you have to pay attention to catch on to the nuances that she does in the songs.

  • Ikaw ang laos, 1 week pa lang and post mo

dito 8 na kaagad ang thumb down mo. Kailan

lang ang 30th year anniversary nya sa

showbiz, ganyan ba ang laos? Kung boring

s'ya sa yo, bakit mo s'ya pinapanood?

  • eh you already know the style of Lea's song.. why did you watch? hehe.. Don't watch if you don't like the artist bec. you will end up complaining..coz at the first place..you're not a fan.

  • baka naman gusto mo eh rock concert or poprock kya ka na bored, dapat hindi ka na sumama pag ganung alam mo ang theme ng concert, yan 2loy na bored ka...nexttime make sure of where you will be and how you have to be...stupid

  • What a excellent journey they have been.. for both girls.. WOW

  • To myraceleste: they choose lea coz..a Kim ..must posses an asian beauty.. Monique..looks metiza..

  • i remember that was one of the contentions that they had between lea and monique.

for me, another thing is that lea has a presence about her, especially in that show, that really takes you in, makes you think she's really kim, and empathize with the character. monique does have a great voice, but i think her personality didnt fit as much with the character in the key points.

  • Grabe ka naman pinoyvoice... Lea was carrying our country name. Have you forgotten that.. or maybe you don't know. Seniors must be respected in any field. You don't have that values..do you? uhmm..

  • How does Lea speak english so well? Like no filipino accent? Did she grow up in the US?

  • To 236mL: Her mom was the one..

  • they're both good. just that they gotta choose one kim. just one! and so happens that it was lea who won the role. but that doesn't mean monique isnt good. like i said, they're both perfect 4 the role.

  • Is that so..well, the judges/selector..hehe whatever they're called..didn't seem to have same mind of yours. Good if you're there to choose. but you your opinion.

  • I Love Lea....but Im sorry....Monique killed it!!! Shes the better story teller..... See IN THE HIEGHTS and youll understand.

  • haha.. Lea got it..she knows how to handle..coz u need also to be something diff. Well, thanks for sharing the video "in the heights".. it was nice and ofcourse its the modern one and its the trend now.

  • this has nothing to do with me!

  • To broadway..:Is that so..well, the judges/selector..hehe whatever they're called..didn't seem to have same mind of yours. Good if you're there to choose. but its your opinion.

  • Hella... do you think you are better than

the producer who picked Lea to do the lead

    role?

  • I love that she had a British accent!

  • what happened to the complete "the making of miss saigon"? i viewed it a few months before and now it's gone!!!

  • the title of the song is i know i give my life for you. that's the time she will commit a suicide..

  • i love the song too much for one heart. its such a shame they took it out of the show. its one of the best songs, along with i still believe and i'd give my life for you

  • that was great, very enchanting!

  • The documentary "The making of miss saigon" is probably the best and a more detailed approach to video compilation of any broadway in the making.

  • I MET MONIQUE WILSON. Ha ha just saying. She know's my Tita surprisingly and I joined her summer workshop New Voice Company last summer.

  • I really like her... Hope I could be like her.

  • when lea sings it breaks my heart

  • oh wrong.. its not sun and moon.. lol

  • what was the song Lea sang in front of the piano, the same song that Monique sang in the vid? I can't find this song in my CDs.

  • it's called Too Much For One Heart. it's probably the best song from miss saigon, but was unfortunately thrown out. she sang the whole thing at a concert somewhere, its on youtube.

  • sun and moon..
