To say Linux does not have good drivers is pretty bogus. Load up openSUSE, for instance, on an average PC and everything is recognized and configured at the time of installation. With Windows you will go through a stack of CDs getting everything working right because the drivers are not included with the OS. After that you will go through a stack of application CDs because nothing comes with it. Not even a basic office suite. This is a fact, not an opinion.

yes that is true, when it works awesome.But what happens if a piece of hardware doesn't install? in my experience you get screwed cause usually there are no linux drivers for the mass hardware out there. if it doesnt work you have to write the driver your self or compile it for your current kernal. kind sucky if you ask me. @gaoloole: I don't think Mac is a bad OS, the concept of a stable Linux based kernel with a very good GUI is in fact realy appealing. The only 'problem' I have with Mac is that they make a hype of their product and making annoying ignorant people saying to me that windows blows (which it surely did and still does at certain points). This is for a big deal Apple's fault (or should I say plan) illustrated by their 'I'm a Mac' commercials.

Alright, my bad, I misunderstood what you said. It's great to see that you appreciate one of the most strongest features of the Mac. I see what you are saying with Apple's marketing, but that has nothing to do with the OS. Apple hypes their products to get the message out there, because only Mac computers run OS X, and its competitors (Toshiba, Acer, HP, Lenovo, Sony, LG) all carry Windows. Every company should believe they are the best, which is what Apple does.

I'm not bad mouthing windows, I just dislike their latest work in Vista. In fact, what I like most about windows is their compatibility with pretty much anything, which has been a problem with Macs in the past. By the way, the quote was said by a computer designer of whom I cannot recall the name, but it was mentioned at a recent Mac Keynote presentation. Mac OS is certainly not overpriced, it's in fact cheaper, and better, than Vista.

My 'problem' with Apple is that Apple's home market is hardware. And that hardware when compared to other companies is overpriced. People still buy it for their superior OS (and also because of the hype, but let us ignore that). Especially the desktops are insanely expensive.

Distributing their next OS on all PC's would be great; it will make windows innovate and it will advance compatibility on both systems.

Apple sadly does not want this because it earns a lot on it's hardware, and is the sole competitor in that market. (combination of OS and hardware)

Personally I use a slimmed down version of XP; it's very fast and compatible and I'm happy Windows has extended the support for XP.
