  • This video is a bit silly and amateur. There's a big difference between what you've posted and what Mr Leyton said. I'm completely non-biased.what you've effectively done is claim there's a whole in the cup only to fill it in front of an audience to show no hole whatsoever.

His theory is backed by a lot of literature, people like James Gilligan comes to mind who has spent 40+ years of his life talking to the worlds worst criminals. I've read a lot on this too, you make it seems like you haven't

  • Anyone interested in a clearer understanding should watch Human Resources (which features Dr. Leyton, a world renowned expert on serial killing), Century Of The Self, and perhaps the Zeitgeist trilogy.

  • In a culture shrouded in violence like the US, the neurosis' that arises in that culture due to environmental factors such as inequalities brought about by social class, combined with lack of understanding of our own psychology, etc, which we generally call 'mental illness', results in that neurosis manifesting in a way that mirrors that culture's collective identity. For the US and maybe NA in general, there is a culture of war and violence. This is what he's saying.

  • Is he really 70?

  • Oh and by the way the theory about Iraq isn't even Leyton's, it belongs to someone else. He even says "IF this theory is correct...." so get your shit straight before you make comments on a topic that you clearly have no insight on.

  • Hes not blaming irag...and they are not 2 blame

  • I don't know about the Iraq connection. From 1959 to 1996 there were 5 school shootings in the US (not sniper type attacks). After the 'Gun Free Zone Act' passed in 1996, there's been one a YEAR, where some goof walks in and starts shooting. This guy was another 'everybody picks on me' type and flipped.

  • This guy is probably one of the smartest who has comment on virginia tech shooting... His theory about iraq is just a theory, so just let it be.

  • whoever tittled this video is trying to mislead what he is saying is violence begets violence unfortunately we are a military country who thrive on death and war after

Iraq they will find another conflict have every confidence in this fact Iraq was no mistake but long term planned.

  • latest news police say 5 min delay caused many deaths.???? WTF what happened to the 2 hours they did nothing to warn students now they pat each other on the backs for a job well done? yup thats what they are doing welcome to america and our dumb down sheeple media.this is horrific USA.

  • I see a lot of people commenting that he didn't make a connection between Iraq and the VT murders. You folks tuned out before the end of the clip where he said, and I quote; "and it looks like that's whats happening".

With that statement he asserted that there is in fact a connection between the Iraq war and the VT murders.

    My assessment stands...

  • i don't wanna be an ass here, but this guy really knows what hes talking about and aparfrom the war theory wich is not proven and might be true, his explanation was really accurate because i have a friend in school that was thinking about doing this (hes not going to anymore) all im saying is that you look very stupid trying to make fun of this guy

  • No, don't feel like an ass. If there is one thing I have learned from Public Speaking is that a PH.D can be taken like gospel and besides I agree with him. It hasn't been proven, but it could be true. So yeah, I'm with you man.

  • @safework It certainly isn't the kind of connection your title suggests.

  • Theres nothing wrong with what he said. he didnt blame the Iraq war he mentioned war in general as a reason a society is desensitized to violence which is true. In this case however the kid was simply a nutjob. As far as the poster, way to slant the posting to your own agenda.

  • sunnymurph, think and understand what the man is saying before putting out stupid comments.

    way to jump the gun

  • which would you rather watch? 2 adults actually discussing something in depth, or bill'o on fox yelling at someone, with subject matter that is simple enough to hold the attention of the average 10 year old? By the way, american news is engineered to be able to captivate a 10 year old. No knee jerk reaction, no opinions there, just theory. Interesting EH?

  • he had some good points.. he offered a theory and did not state it as fact. don't get it twisted.

  • Yeah, if you were to watch that video without the text, you wouldn't have thought anything of it. He simply states a theory connecting wartime to homicide rates, that's all. "Iraq did it" wasn't what I got out of this video.

These shootings are a terrible tragedy, but actively going out and looking for somebody to get mad at is just downright stupid.

  • it is a ludicrous connection, but if anyone was actually listening it sounds like he is just contemplating on whether or not the original theory is correct. He didn't necessarily attribute the killings to Iraq.

  • If the studies the professor cites about increases in homicide rates in time of war are true, then I don't have a problem with this story. It was presented in a balanced, intelligent way - moreso than a lot of debate on Fox and CNN in the past couple of days.

  • Saying that the war and real life atrocitys can actually effect someone...No no no that shant do, lets blame video games and get it over with.

  • lol, so we wait for the killings to see if hes right... sounds like a plan.

  • It does makes sense...

  • Did you bother to research the theory he mentioned? It IS in fact a theory. He didn't say the guy went on a rampage BECAUSE of the war in Iraq (he didn't make a causal connection!) All he said was that there is a correlation between a country's participation in war, and increases in homicide rates. In fact, analysts have been saying for a LONG LONG time, that war times are correlated with domestic violence as well. But gee, you wouldn't know that because you didn't even bother to look it up.

  • If that's St. John's college in NYC, it's full of stupid people. The college is notorious for being a cake school easier than my high schoo.

  • It's Memorial University in Newfoundland, Canada. Great school.

  • At first I thought it was going to be some guy talking out of his ass, but he was actually very intelligent and gave some good insight.

  • Stupid Canadian! What a ridiculous analysis! Go stuff some bacon up your arse!

  • an even more ridiculous response to the whole thing. moron.

  • your user name sums up my response nicely!

  • This guy is a former prof at Memorial University in St. John's Newfoundland. . .that little island to the far east of every North American map. I've had the guy, and while he is a pompous, out of touch windbag, he does had an incredible knack for understanding these issues, even if he doesn't know the best way to present to his audience. Then again, it is more likely he doesn't care about his audience.

  • Go fuck yourself, get an Education, oh im sorry your an American so an assult rifle will probably due.

  • due?

  • If you're going to preach about getting an education, you may want to get one first and learn about spelling and homonyms! I think an 'ASSAULT' rifle will 'DO' quite nicely, thank you. Matter of fact, I think I'll take two. I hope you're not typical of your country's educational system.

  • Grow up. That guy was saying you look like an idiot for not having info to back up your belief. Never saying your wrong. You just need to back things up and you need good sources. Okay.

  • DrisanaShayde: My other post(s) shows one source from the Dept. of justice. This whole excerise about the PHD reminds me of (to paraphrase) "things hidden from the wise and yet revealed unto babes" Sometimes an education will let you read more into something than there really is. The kid was just whacked out from mean spirited rich kids.

  • Have you actually looked into violence and school shootings? I have. Maybe there is something to do with millitary causes. I mean the same day of Columbine was the worst bombing on Kosov in that war or conflict. Maybe they were showing it. I'd love to have a debate with you on this shit. But yeah. You can't say it's not connected while at the same time you can't say it is. It is at a stand still and may be indefinately. But yeah let's talk awizardalso.

  • I haven't got a clue to anything that ties them together, except Columbine and VT. I can relate to being victimized by all the bullies in Jr High school. Had easy access to firearms and never, ever thought about shooting anybody (though I may have fantasized about beating someone bloody!). Columbine was an event (?) planned out well in advance so I can't see a link to Kosov(o?).

  • More like something that parents or society can't or won't teach kids. Things like morals, empathy, even basic religious concepts like right and wrong. Too many kids seem to get whatever they want just to keep 'em from whining. No fear of authority until they cross the line, by which time, it's too late. Seems like the farther God gets pushed out of our world, the more evil creeps in.

  • What is it with people talking about Canada and bacon. I've lived here 30 years and don't see any Canada-bacon connection.

    Same goes for maple syrup.
