I've always struggled with the low notes before each verse, so did you, so yeah don't look up, way to much strain.

Do some breathing exercises. and try to soften those low notes, and stop singing through the nose.

You did a pretty good job with this, but I have a couple tips for you:

a) don't look up when straining for notes. This puts pressure on your vocals chords and forces the sound through your nose

b) this song is just slightly out of your range, I would try tuning down a bit.

c) raise your eyebrows! This picks up the sound so you don't go flat.

Just because someone covers it IHavePLAH, does not mean it is instantly a masterpiece. I love Leonard Cohen (probably because I like Bob Dylan so much), and although I respect his version as he wrote it, I do not care for it nearly as much as Jeff Buckley's version, because of his voice, so similar to his fathers. I personally believe this guy has a whiny voice, is not nearly as good at the guitar as either, and is a Liberal Chink. This guy is not good.
