pchristophergray, you are mistaken about CND's position on Iran's nuclear programme. We are opposed to nuclear power for civilian energy purposes, in Britain and worldwide. We encourage Britain and all nuclear power-producing states, including Iran, to pursue clean, sustainable energy instead. We are also absolutely opposed to the development and possession of nuclear weapons by Britain and all countries. If Iran is proven to be developing nuclear weapons, we will be totally against that.
So according to the Communist party member Kate Hudson the UK shouldn't have nuclear weapons or even nuclear power yet it is perfectly acceptable for Iran to develop both. It's always been the same with the Communist partys of the west. During the cold war they never protested the USSR's nuclear activities only their own countries. They talk about double standards yet condemn democracies rights to have nuclear weapons while supporting dictators why try to obtain them.
British people want a nuclear system that is not reliant on the american as it is now. we need our own system that we can launch by ourselves without american agreement. cheep trick using children who have been told what to think and only given one side of the story. nuclear weapons are a deterant.
I do agree that it would be better if Britain had an independent deterrent, but I can't decide who's the bigger dreamer: you who believes the Americans would allow anybody else to patrol the high seas with nukes capable of pretty much annihilating the East Coast or me who wants global abolishion.
Is it the U.S. that has to be deterred or the Russians with their multi billion investment in English real estate and a ready market for their prime export, or is it the French, or Al-Qaida?
As for the kids: I don't know these kids and have not told them what to say (same for the adults). Does their opinion (yes, it may be uninformed) count less than the one of our 'trustworthy' and P.R-trained politicians, businessmen and journalists, who are on the most part paid to say whatever they say?
