Many of the stanzas to this song are found in two shape-note songbooks. In both the 'Red" (Denson) and 'Blue' (Cooper) books the song is named "The Morning Trumpet" and appears on page 85 of each book. It attributes the lyrics to John Irleand (1793) and the tune to B.F.White (1844).
