When people are doing something that they enjoy doing and it holds their attention they are going to do that thing until it's no longer fun. I'd rather play a video game than get up at 5 a.m. and be at school for 7 hours and sit in a desk watching the clock and thinking about video games (same goes for work). If you do what you love doing, even if it consumes your life no matter how "evil" some addictions are to others (cocaine, gambling, excessive alcohol consumption) I say do it.
Also I hate when someone cites a sign of game addiction as 'the person gets upset when I pull them away from their game'. I bet if you yanked someone's cellphone out of their hand, turn off their comp when they are facebooking, turn off the tv in the middle of their show then they'd get upset too.
why is it considered socially okay to watch tv 3-4 hours+ a day but playing a game for even a fraction of that time must be addiction? Growing up my dad would get frustrated if I play a game for an hour a day, but then he'd watch TV all evening.

He does well in school but the thing with him beside spending time with family (my dad is 66 years old and sick) he needs glasses. His face is real close to that tv and now he needs to get glasses. I believe that video games aren't the cause of these things, however, I believe that a lot of the arguments you made were either ignorant (the first two in particular), or misunderstanding the point (the third point is talking about children who USED to have good grades, and then suddenly began to fail when they started playing video games. Their is a difference between that, and what you were talking about).

Sure you can study the behaviour of a child after playing a game, and can claim their behaviour is negative - but it needs to be considered in conjunction with other information on that child. What is their behaviour history? The test might be the first time they have played a video game, and yet they already have a history of such behaviour.

Also, my mom never blamed video games for my poor grades, she knew it was because I was cutting classes and didn't really care about my studies.

As for the content control. A couple of years ago me and a friend wanted Doom 3 and i didnt have an ID and He left his at home. The clerk wouldn't sell him the game. I'm 23 now and anytime I buy a game that is rated mature 17 and up I'm carded everytime. Well the clerks are obviously doing there job. Hmm lets see there parents are buying the games for them. The problem with using psychology, to study the effects of games, is that its not an exact science. Sure you can study the behaviour of a child after playing a game, and can claim their behaviour is negative - but it needs to be considered in conjunction with other information on that child. What is their behaviour history? The test might be the first time they have played a video game, and yet they already have a history of such behaviour.
That is what the media overlooks and does not report.

If you have a test in two days, dont play video games and actually study. The people who get poor grades in school either dont give a shit, really have trouble but dont seek help, or just care about partying more than school

I used to get bad grades all the time due to the fact that "I didn't give a shit" right now I just skipped an entire year of collage due to the fact that I don't see the point in doing it anymore since I have successful job RIGHT now. (PS: I actually got that steady well-paid job due to the fact that I played a lot of video games in my youth). Also, my mom never blamed video games for my poor grades, she knew it was because I was cutting classes and didn't really care about my studies.
