  • This is the American version. The English has a different singer and has "in England I am John" for America... which came first I've no idea ;-)

  • that fox would have ripped his face off and given him rabies for good measure.

  • Can anyone post some episodes on Youtube of the Storyteller? or can one buy the DVDs? I've been singing this tune on and off for so many years (over 20!) and its lovely to have located it at last. such good memories of good, wholesome TV for all ages :)

  • Oh wow! So many memories! Thanks for the upload!

  • @lewiscifer999

    Thanks for your comment.

  • Em Portugal sou o João... :D

  • Wow!!Memories!!!We use to watch it after lunch,Sundays. There was always a moral to the stories and any age could watch it....not like the crap thats on t.v nowadays. In my country we had both versions of the song and the original version was ...in england i am john!!

  • In ENGLAND I am john...!! That is the correct lyrics

  • I remember watching this when I was a little boy

  • Interesting. In my non-English version it said "In America" but it was all in my non-English mother tongue. So wich one is the real deal? It would be strange if my country's version was translated from a non-original source (beacause they would always translate from originals). Regardless, it was an awesome show that woked me up every Saturday.

  • i havent seen this for 25 years

  • dya think he takes it up the shitter?

  • Ive been searching for this intro and theme for years, and had recently came to the realisation that I may never see it again. All I could vividly remember of the theme was the beginning line, "I'm a storyteller, and my stories must be told..." lol I was literally in tears finally getting to see this again after all these years, and the theme song is incredibly moving and sad.:( Many thanx to ugljevikbo for posting this, and finally ending my long search for this classic intro. You rock! xD

  • I feel certain that when the series was originally shown here (the UK) in the early 80's, it was called simply "The Storyteller". I could be wrong though. lol What is definitely true though, is the series was originally produced for British childrens TV, which explains why the original lyrics were "in England I am John". This was obviously changed later to "In America,," when it was later shown internationally. Hope this clears up the confusion over the changed lyrics! lol

  • Ok... Who remembers this????

  • Thanks i've been trying to find this for so many years

  • Gosh I can actually recall this scene. Very dated.

  • This is a classic.

  • It should be in America I am

    Budd or Rick

    Or even Cock

  • @pattyheno Randy or Dwayne!

  • @pattyheno Such a politically incorrect comment to make, but I actually wet myself laughing. You are an unsubtle genius.

  • lyrics to the song in dutch : ik heb veel balharen en ik tel ze met plezier :p

  • wow this is old....loved being a kid so much : (

  • i remember this when i was a kid oh my god this is weird its all coming back now cheers for posting this

  • does anybody know if you can get the ralph mctell version?

  • We used to sing this to a kid a school, inserting the line, "In England I am Barry," in place of, "In England I am John." Lying little sod.

  • thanks 4 posting ah childhood

  • Ralph McTell sang the English version

  • in germany i'm johan..and you just know he's packin' a cool 12" into those tights..

Možda, ako živiš u nekoj "normalnoj" zemlji možeš kupiti preko Amazona.

  • @ugljevikbo

  • its true, i remember it, in england i am john , the yanks stole it those fucking pieces of shit.

  • @cujo9 I also remember it being 'In England I am John'. I'm not even English but Scottish, but agree they shouldn't have altered it not least because 'America' has too many syllables to fit comfortably in the lyrics

  • @cujo9 I really want to get the England one. So annoying...

  • @hoffmanshades Same here. I got all excited as it was definitely the tune I remembered but not that pathetic whiny voice!.

  • @repo136 There's a person that has loads of old-school British TV uploads on their channel like The Moondial, DramaRama etc.. I might see if they've got it. I think they get them from old VHSs or something.

  • @hoffmanshades Sounds like interesting stuff. Please let me know if you remember the channel name.

  • America My ARSEHOLE!

It's in ENGLAND I am JOHN... You yankee sacks of shit!!!!!

  • @hackneydemon08 Ha I agree - but this is the international version, as it says. I've been trying to find the original version, is it on here?

  • @hackneydemon08 you have alzheimers. it was 'in ENGLAND i am CHARLES'! either access your memory banks, comb your VHS collection or travel back in time...either way its 'CHARLES'. Even though I'm a solicitor I will punch anyone who dares to challenge this fact.

  • @topholewhat0 You may be a solicitor but you are still a fuckwit. It's John. Think about it, Johann, Jan etc. Its John not Charles. Actually come to think about it of course you're a fuckwit, you're a solitor.

  • @jasonevans71 i'm gonna do you court. my god i'm so livid!..all my limbs are tense.

i'm gonna put the police on you. you're finished! i'm going to ruin your life for questioning my authority. prepare to get framed for terrorism. i can make that happen. i'm in the masons

  • @hackneydemon08 Yep it's a bit sad isn't it? Same old same old, USA all the way etc etc.

  • @hackneydemon08 Ha ha ha! Woah! woah! calm down, kids. It's just a cartoon. Afterall, the song was adapted for some of the countries in which the series was shown.

  • @hackneydemon08 Americans try to steal fucking everything.lol

  • @hackneydemon08 Oh, we're not so bad. After all, you lot gave us the pound-inch system and then abandoned us...

  • @hackneydemon08

A moron comment like yours can only reveal the British inferiority complex towards Americans. This show is produced in Canada, which comprises a part of North America last time I checked.

  • @hackneydemon08 Wasn't it 'In England I am Charles'?

  • The original version says "In England, I am John" not "in America, I am John"... That sounds silly...

Can't even think of a well-known piece of American Storytelling? Apart from maybe Washington Irvine's tales... but even they were based on European tales such as Grimms.

  • thanks for this amazing memorable upload, many good memories. - one of my favourite childhood programs - probably won't be long before youtube take it down because of copyright - so enjoy it while you can

  • Oh man FINALLY!! I always remembered this song and that gorgeous fox!!!! THANQ!!!

  • Shit-hot nostalga here Thanks!

  • Fantastic.....was at a party last night and we spent so long trying to remember the full lyrics of this!!!!

Many, many thanks to whoever posted this!

  • Shuggaqube, I can totally relate! : )

  • Wow, finally...I found kindred spirits in here. Haha. Like many of you, I've been looking for this for ages!!!!! I've asked lots of people about this animated series for many, many years, but nobody seems to know of this show. I 'd be singing this song since I couldn't remember the title of the series and people would look at me funny. Haha. This brings back such wonderful childhood memories.

  • me too Cranberry!!!!

  • i cant believe it...i remember the song tho but not the stories......too bad they dont show it anymore

  • Oh my goodness I've been looking for this for ages, I'm sure some people thought I was crazy because I could remember the opening title, but couldn't remember the name of the show, as I was only a kid when it was showing. I didn't know that it was "In England I am John", because I only knew the part that said "In America I'm John"...and when I think about it now, most of the stories were european and sometimes narrated because they wern't in english..so glad I found it here now. Thanks YouTube:)

  • Furthermore, I don't remember any American stories.

  • they've changed it! It's "in england I am John"! bloody yanks!

  • I remember watching this as a kid and saw episodes in both english and dutch. Is there anyone who could help me remember the dutch name of this show. the dutch song was nice too. I agree with britbomb. Song makes me sad.

  • Frig me! I've been looking for this intro for years!!!

I always loved the fox....I don't know why but this song always made me sad as a kid!! LOL.....great stuff!

  • Corr fantastic. Was looking for this. Nostalgia...

  • 'I'm the Pork Pie seller. And my Pork Pies must be sold'..........What we used to sing for a joke anyhows.

  • Our version 'I'm a storyteller and my socks are full of mould"

  • I Think That Fox Is So Cute.

  • Wow.

  • this takes me back mid 80's i loved this we watched this at school great memories

  • I've been looking for the name of this series and trying to obtain copies for 25 years now. Thanks to Toonarific for letting me know what the name of this series was!
