There are 9 parts to this movie, well worth it all. What was going on in the world in 1968-69 besides Political War (Vietnam) and landing on the Moon.
An amazing story and study on psychology ... I admire Robin Knox-Johnston's incredibly unselfish and generous act told in the credits. I would like to be able to thank him for that kindness. This documentary shows off the best of Youtube. Brilliant.
@RusselBertrand I decided to write my essay about him instead of crohurst and isolation cause EVERYONE in my class stole my idea when I mentioned it to the teacher. damn
@Blue67impala nice i would like to read it if possible...Bernard has published several books, I have own and am reading the "long way" which is a day to day diary of the race chronicled by this doc....all the other contestants wrote memoirs as well, and the piece de resitance is "voyage for madmen" enjoy it with a stiff drink beside a warm fire when a storm is a brewing outside...epic
@RusselBertrand I'll send it to you when I finish then, I decided to analyze and compare the sailing experience of Moitssier and crowhurst. Amazing voyage this was, cant imagine having to be isolated for so long like that.
i agree he should have sunk the boat and everything on it. this boat was never a deep water boat .but i have a lot of respect for the courage he had and i think he should be an Inspiration to us all.
Can someone pleeeeaaase tell me the name of the song/hymn playing in the part where chichester returns and gets welcomed? been looking for it for ages TY!
Legends in spanish you can find in a site like subscene and the full documentary I think you can research a little bit more, if you can understeand what i mean...
One of the most intriguing human dramas ever and not many people know about it.
This is before GPS and storable food stuff so we today can't begin to fathom the challenges faced by these men. Heart wrenching to watch Crowhurst's wife and children then and now telling the story. The one character who was most compelling for me though was Moitissier. I knew I had to find out more about this guy. A real salt and a poet and philosopher to be sure. He led an amazing life.
I could not agree more. I have been doing offshore races with my local yacht club, and it is still a good level of challenge even with the technology we have today!
My only hero. I'll love him forever, because Donald's failings tell us all a little about how we all fail in this universe, how we try to make something important, that will last. And, ultimately, our lives are meaningless. Just listen to the opening lines. It's about trying to defeat the incomparable strength of this life, and coming up short. It's about the beauty of trying and failing. It's the only story I understood in this life. So he tried to walk on water. Let us all try sometime. Love x

Yes incredible! and sad. To be in such a situation. A brave man, Prehaps he should have sunk the boat and everything on board and sent out mayday.

Yeah right!!! Why didn't he do that!!!!!!!! Probably too much time at sea - ruins the brain.
avidalocan 2 years ago
The guys mind was clearly in trouble. I think solitude and knowing what lie ahead broke him. who knows!!!

@sadlersailing Ohhhh yea.. wasn't that an option?!?!

It was an option, but an option he couldnt see i guess. When the mind gets twisted who knows what you see or not?
