I agree with that, but there was a problem with other foundations sending food and such. When the items got there people started to fight+killing each other so they're just sending money to the government for them to handle it BUT THEN idk why the money needed to go to their government on the account of don't they think that they would use it selfishly as well!? Ish to ponder..
i agreee , my school askeddd to give sumthing ah dollar or sum time of cash NOOO . I will send u ah ah pair ah Jeans sum clothes on Yah Backk & summ BEANS .. MONEY ? i dont trust that ..
That disturbed my spirit too. Let's not be that naive, HAITI didn't get not one cent of all the money some of you sent. Let's be serious and think outside of the box. How are you going to tell folks just to send MONEY when those people needed water and food...those were the basic necessities. Why did the USA military occupy the port au prince airport deciding who and who not to let enter the country why? Think about it...all the money remained in the USA and that's the truth.
Huuuunneeeeyy let me tell u gurl! The reason they probally want u to send money is bcuz... the simple fact that when the last big disaster happend (hurricane Katrina ) 75 percent of that food SPOILED bcuz FEMA failed to send it out! So all that good food wasted! So I guess they're tryna prevent that from happenin again but I do agree w/ u..., THEY NEED To TELL ME WHERE MY MONTIES GOIN lol
I think a good idea would be for the grocery stores to have a dedicated section of items that will benefit Haiti. And when u buy it, you put it into a bin, or something that the store has so you know that the items are not tainted in any way because the store has it protected.
VERY very good video Post! I have seen alot of your vids,my co-workers as well! you sure do make the time fly, wit comics, wise talk, just everything stay you and keep them coming man!! praying for HAITI! good plan by the way!
I agree with you; send them food, baby food, medicine, clothing etcHelp directlyyou know it makes sense!
If this world was run by Humans who cared about Humans then the planet would be a nicer place to live (in fact it would be amazing) but it is not; it is run by evil, smiling gangsters!
The Govor*ment dont care about helping Haiti; they only want your money because they are tax grabbing, Illuminati bastards.
Cash contributions allow professional relief agencies to purchase exactly what is needed for disaster victims. Money is easy to transport and it doesnt have to clear customs nor does it clog up ports. People who live and work in Haiti understand how difficult getting goods in and out the country can be. When food and other items can be purchased locally, it puts much needed cash into the economy.
s idea is way better. Because it makes me think that the money isnt really going towards Haiti. It makes me thihnk that they are putting some towards it, but most of it for their own greed. But i think that food is more full proof, yeah it may need to get checked but atleast we know that it is going to ppl who really need it
I am holding a Relief Effort Drive at my school where we are only collecting non-perishable items and not money. So many people were trying to discourage me saying, 'Don't do it. They don't need items, they only need money.' But I didn't listen. We've been holding this drive for a full month and we have had a really great response. But I saw this video today and I couldn't agree with you more. Great video.
this is a beautiful plan. granted when u in the mist of things, a clear path is hard to see. but i hope this is shared. cause by saying this it makes people not wanna help.
u r indeed right but the U.S is in 2 or $3 trillion of debt and there r still unemployed people. a girl in my class stated that when rebuilding haiti that the unemployed peopl here should go over there and get paid by reforming haiti and then the haitians could have jobs while the U.S can make money off of them and then some of the money can go towards the debt
Thank you for this post. I love the fact that so many people are in support of aiding this nation that has had so much turmoil and devastation. KEEP DONATING TO HAITI. THE PROBLEM WILL NOT GO AWAY OVERNIGHT. JUST BECAUSE THE NEWS STOPS TALKING ABOUT IT DOES NOT MEAN THE ISSUE IS RESOLVED. ANY TYPE OF DONATION WILL HELP.
i would feel more comfortable if i could buy things and send them or if their was some way for me to know in my efforts to help im really helping. i would then feel better knowing people arent taking advantage of the people of haiti. i am still going to send money..but i want my money to go towards helping haiti! not making some con-artist richer! dont get it twisted though! I AM GOING TO HELP! for the people that cant you can by praying for haiti! Thats something you cant buy! A BLESSING
this is rxactly how i feel too! when they say money only...in my opinion its a bit suspect! i was also wishing their was some type of way for me to send much needed items. I saw on t.v. how they were using manual farm saws and things like that to amputate people! they were using rusted saws at that! Cash im sure is needed but so is iodine, rubbing alcohol and etc.these are things we can buy. Because they were low on rubbing alcohol..they were using vodka and sh!t to clean rusted instruments!
I believe they said this because they fear that they will lose the financial support that is needed to help build up the country by people sending so many items, clothing they no longer want, etc. not that these things are not needed but building the country back up is essential.
i always help out places in trouble..sending money whatever. help the cancer group alot...but my mother brought up a good point..were helping people in haiti..when no one reached out really to help new orleans but the people already living in the united states..now how does that work.
some of the ideas r u saying wont happen cause the people are not educated and its hard to explain orderly, been there in the military and its very hard for them to understand cause for many years the no one taught them about orderly and the importance of why then need to do certain things for health and hygine
i love ur questions and answers. u did an excellent job on taking ur notes and ur info written out, news and political leaders what people fool about sending money, u r correct on what u r saying,
I agree with you Q. It would even be cool if the higher authority figures could pull some strings and get sponsorship (if they haven't already) straight from food, clothing, etc companies/businesses or use some of the money being sent in to pay these companies, since it is a recession and it would suck for the companies to have to go out of business from donating (walmart, mc donald's, target, macy's, the well known supermarket chains, etc).
i hear wat you're saying but there is a definite safety issue with sending food - i.e whether or not the food has passed its expiry date, whether its been damaged etc.. you just dont know i mean you might get some sickos who poison the food then send it to the Haiti people? Its better and a safer option to buy all the food from one place as opposed to having people check each food item individually which has been sent it from other countries
i 100% agree with what your saying but my mom was actually telling how there are laws that make it harder for items to go through as opposed to cash ( things like it someone poisoned the food or something i think ) so that the process of clearing the food and stuff legally takes a lot longer than just sending in cash. but its sad how laws meant to help only work against us in the end, u know?? i hope someone sees this though..great plan. AND TIMAYA IZ SO0O CUTE<3! l0lz
I mean you can even put $5 on ur cell bill.... c'mon people! I'm certain that is what former Pres. Clinton was saying in his speech. Now in my personal opinion Sherry Shepard is a fucktard and she may have meant that but she should not be allowed to speak in English (I say this under the assumption she doesn't speak any other language because if she does I will of course amend the list to include those as well) until the end of days
If you don't have any cash right now and food is tight but you have a 3 kids who have all grown out of their gently used clothing... send it! A pair of running shoes ur fat ass has only ever worn to Mc Donald's? Them too! Every little bit helps. They are not deterring you contributions they're informing us of where the need lies. Of course you don't want to put it in an envelope and stick it under the door to Haiti but there are a lot of refutable charities out there as well :-)
Qaadir I <3 u much but I disagree. Money is king and it is always the fastest easiest way to get things done. It's simple as a wire transfer vs. 1 week for delivery. Not to mention everything is torn to fuck over there so they can barely transport it through. As far as people asking for money I don't think they are saying don't send canned goods, clothes etc. they are simply saying cash is better if you can spare it. If you can't spare $5 but you can take $20 off your food stamp card... do it!
George Bush said that. He also said they want to tap the human spirit. Have you heard of HAARP? Look it up.. It is a machine that is used to control weather. They been using this for years. We are being lied to. They want money and to control Haiti. I feel you! Peace and Love.
For the first time we disagree. Sending cash is the best and fastest way to help if you donate through a trusted organization. After the earthquake, we saw planes full of food and water sitting on runways because the airspace was too congested for them to take off and land in Haiti. Sending food takes too much manpower to organize. PLEASE don't discourage people from donating money. By doing so you are hurting not helping. Time sorting through cans of baked beans is time wasted. GIVE MONEY!!!!!!
as for the donating money, i think they say that because they are buying food in giant bundles and it would be easier than for everyone to send in cans and goods which then have to be sent to a center near the city which noone can really get through so itd have to be sent elsewhere and then driven in, why not just use the bundles of food they are flying in directly in the middle of the capital. i donated money and clothes and i respect your opinion! love your vids! <3
i love your videos and i agree with your concept but however i disagree to some extent. the redcross centers with the booths is a great idea but it is just not that easy. Im sure you have watched the news and it its just total caos (cant spell srry) over there. there are no free spaces there ppl are living in the streets and if you see what happens when food is handed out and how ppl get violent then you would understand something like that would just simply not work. as for the donating money
Great idea. What I thought of is maybe since we are all giving so much money anyways, we could get the cruise ships to house the ppl with no where to stay. As well as house volunteers, ect. The cruise ships are not so sensitive right now and this would be a great way for them to redeem themselves. Since its winter right now, only rich ppl really go on holiday now. I would think there would be ships not being used now. What do you guys think?
Its all true... the corruption is everywhere, and they'r inventing new ways to dress it up or cover it up every second.
WHEN A GROUP OF PEOPLE HAVE NOTHING, ANY ASSISTANCE OR CONTRIBUTION WILL HELP. beautifuly stated. very powerful and true.
wt if an individual really wud like 2 giv nd has no money, but has stored up food or over the counter medication or clothes or survival supplies to donate. the only way they can help is to pawn the items??? so that the same items can be purchased??? WOW
@ Timaya I'm just curious about how you figure all of this stuff. I mean im just a college student I'm not like a professional or anything like that and this isnt my area of expertise, but I would love for you to show us some facts and figures to back up what your saying. I'd just love for you to research more before you start pointing the finger and stuff at our country and other coutries. It seems a bit Juvenile. Love your videos though!
i agree 100000% everything should be welcomed because it seems like when they only want money then i feel that parts of that money won't be really going to the people in need who i've been seeing on tv.
I've had the same exact feelings regarding sending cash and not the necessary items. However they stated the reason to send cash instead of everything else is because they don't have the available transportation to transport these goods to the people. The ports have been destroyed because of the earthquake. there are large shipments supposedly already waiting to be unloaded. not too sure how the cash is going to heal the ppl if they cant even get medical supplies off the ships. just pray.
but then on the other hand, maybe they are going to use the cash to help rebuild some things, for like u said for medicine, for beds and machines for those who are bed ridden
between college and work i have no time now, ive been missing you LOTS . (with that being said) here in DR some of the support groups have been stopped due to the fact that their not allowing people in for the moment (diseases and stuff), so we are sending everything we can except for money cuz the support groups that want money are not legitimate so i agree with u 100%, please send clothes, canned food, etc etc, it really does help more ! <3 u Q' ! (btw: i felt it ... it was awful :S )
I agree. The Haiti government is very corrupt (look up its recent history) and any money which is given will probably fall into the hands of the rich as it always does.
first of all, i absolutely see where you are coming from since i felt the same way about the situation...
but the reason that these organizations (i'm speaking at least for the red cross) are asking for cash instead of the actual items is because they want the donations that they are making to haiti to be distribute EQUALLY amongst all those that are in need.
what i mean is that they don't want people sending in blankets, for example, because say if they give one family a big, comfy blanket sent by one person versus giving another family a smaller, cheaper one sent by another person then things don't get distributed equally (sorry if it's a bad example).
also, it is much more expensive to ship those items to haiti. the red cross (for ex.) has the supplies that it needs, at least as of now they do :)
also, since organizations like the red cross and the UN buy items in bulk, your money goes so much further, rather than if you send the actual items.
for example, a makeshift bed can cost only about $0.03 since it is purchased in bulk. knowing this, imagine how much more these organizations can do with the money donated...
of course, like we all agree, there are some shady organizations so be careful who you give your money to :)
if you send cash then they can get exactly what they need and they can buy in bulk where u can get a bottle of water for $1.00 they can get a case for $1.00
I wish we could send items instead...and I do agree with you Qaadir. The salvation army should have got involved as well to ship ITEMS toHaiti plys that fact that most of us cant afford to send money. I think there is something awkward about them stressing over money too.
ok so if you send from the usa or another place than hati the government screens all packages and takes whatever they want and the people who need the supplies most of the time dont get anything you sent, however cash is different. The best way to donate is through foundations like red cross
What makes me mad is that, once theres a diasaster! FREAK OUT! EVERYONE GO IN HELP HAITI MODE! Which is awesome! we should do that. But then again, we have starving kids and families in Africa, but oh.. It's ok. they can starve. No, that is sooo selfless.
WOW! You have an awesome plan! I love that you are very knowledgeable about different situations, I enjoy listening to you. You always make a great point.
I TOTALLY agree with you!! I mean what about this who Wyclef thing?? Damn, that's messed up!! It's so much messed up stuff going on behind the scenes that we as normal everyday citizens will NEVER know about! I sent my money through the Red Cross, I hope my money, and everybody elses, gets to the people of Haiti!!!
i agree with you,i think sending food/clothes is better than just CASH!!! where is the CASH going?? bush and sherry are being misleading to the public...xoxo TRS
I know there are drop off places for the ppl in Haiti where you can drop food and stuff off!!But with money it can move faster ther are to many flights coming into Haiti that most of those items will notmake it in. Your point is good but its to much going on!!Now my worry is that the Haitian Gov't. will get there hands on the money coming into Haiti!!Haiti has a VERY corrupt gov't. system and they are getting an out pouring of money so thats my worry cuz they have enough 2 rebuild but will they
..DONT SEND SHIT!! send it to OUR POOR PEOPLE INTHE U.S.A!! why do we send stuff to shit countries before we help our own people?? this is a huge amount of babbling you got going on here..for christs sake I hope you go there..you can put everyone to sleep by talking them to death
ahaha you are so right. we have people with no food in america and we ignore them every day. it's so stupid that we always try to help others before we perfect our own country
there is a natural "law of nature" that is being disrupted in haiti..a "CLEANSING" that is trying to be undone..haiti was full of dicease prior to the quake, i know of people that lived there for 3 yrs and say bodies would rot for 5 days in the ditch/edge of road before cleaned up.he left when he finally caught malaria
my guess is that they was saying cash because they can use cash to purchase things that people wont buy = 100 people give 10 dollars which can buy 1 0r 2 tents, now a person is not gonna go out and buy a tent that cost $50-$100 dollars? but like me.. I went out and purchshased bandaids$2, hydrogen p$1 etc... so thats my guess.
I also agree with your viewpoint. Although money is needed for specific things, we must not reject the outpouring of love as it relates to people doing what they can! At the end of the day every little bit HELPS!
money is better because there is no shipping cost of money like there is for items...and also i heard on cnn or something that some shipping companies are cutting off service to haiti since the roads and infrastructure is so damaged that you wouldn't be able to get the goods to the people anyway
but then there is also a ''cost'' for all the items they need. transport would just be one cost out of many and its not THAT expensive. I disagree, the money needs to be more focused on health-care of actually keeping these people alive
I agree with what you are saying overall Qaadir saying that anything will help and cash is not the ONLY thing that could be of use. I mean your plan makes sense to me, and i think it would be great if someone actually did that or at least something LIKE that but tweeked a little so that it really works.
Well there is also the fact that goods are a longer process to send. Where as it would get there eventually but cash will get there immediately. It's really about supply and demand, this way the people in Haiti actually get what they need vs what we think they need. The cash can also go towards helping to rebuild Haiti.
Unfortunately in the case of tragedy, people look for chances to exploit those hurt. It's chaos down there. American media seems more concerned with getting coverage than helping.
I've been watching AC on CNN since the earthquake hit and once again the bureacrats and the Military (the one who suppose 2 b helping Haitii) R holding things up. Citing logistics & security reasons (sounds familiar) there R volunteers (paid 4 own airfare) willing to risk their live s to help, they brought food &medicine and military is holding the supplies from the people who desparately need them. How do we get the military to step up the process of moving the supplies to the people?
HEAR ME OUT..i think they want people to send in cash so that they can get money to rebuild..haiti is poor and without money it has no way to get rebuilt..maybe im missing something but thats just what i think
I agree with video...this video goes so hard..and is soooooo right.. I think that the reason why they want us to send cash is because they want to pocket most of the money..where did all the money go in the first place when we were donating before? Millions and millions of dollars and haiti was still as poor as the day we didnt send any..get it together!!!
It Made Sense To Me... Sure Did! I Just Told My Mother That We Should Donate The Clothes We Will No Longer Need.. It May Not Be Much.. But It Will HElp...
NOT TO MENTION! Who the hell says you have to ship these things personally? Go to the local American Red Cross or whatever and drop them off! THERE YOU GO! They will ship it for you if it's a problem. =D
You guys, yes it costs money to ship this things, but you know what? Depending on how much you want to help, none of that should matter. I have donated money because at the time I just wanted to help out the best way I can. Yes there are others sending cloths, food, and things of that nature but the point of this video and all the way around is to HELP PERIOD! (If you really wanted to).
i really agree with this. being a 15 year old unemployed girl, i have avsolutly no money. however, i do have blankets cans of food and clothes. it horrlble that theres no way i can help, even though i have so much i can give
aww thats is so sweet most 15 year olds are 2 busy thinking of what they wanna get 4 themselves...but sweetie u can give those things if you like they are helpful 2 God bless u.
there is not the logistics to send all these goods there at the moment. The airport is already a mess, and they cant even get what they have there now out to the people.
And the Red Cross and others probably know what they need...the high energy biscuits, the bottle water, MREs (meals ready to eat), rather than a can of Beans, which would also require can openers...
medications, shipping cost, rebuilding and supplies to rebuild, debris clean up and equipment to do so and getting people there to provide help and cost to send those things from the US is costly getting it there may take a little longer but it may go further to help more people I read on one site that 7,000 can buy a 2 bedroom house there so things are a lot cheaper
From my understanding, they tell people to send cash because it makes it easier for them to put together care packages that will benefit each person individually. Many times when people send in items they get a lot of what they don't need and little of what they need.
you mentioned jackets and sweaters but i heard they actually need LIGHT WEIGHT clothing, so i think id be important to mention that cuz they are in tropical conditions. but i really liked your video. you are very level headed and its nice to hear your opinion.
Good ideas, but the main problem with helping the victims is the cost of shipping. The items these people need are pretty cheap (by our standards). By sending money, you are paying to send the stuff to where it's needed.
Wouldnt it be more money if you sent in food etc... It would cost money for you to send to whereever then, for the others to send things over to Haiti.... Granted i do understand what you saying but your idea of the different booths...requires allot of time and preperation and time is not what many of these people have
....otherwise, you'd have people buying impractical materials that, in their eyes, are needed, but in reality aren't what the aids are in most need of. if you just prefer to send materials, call your red cross & ask what materials are most needed & where to drop them off. people often don't think of things like diapers, sanitary napkins for women, etc., that without, would make an already terrible situation even more unbearable to deal with. your heart is in the right place. continue to give!
i think the reasoning behind them needing money is because the red cross and other emergency agencies will buy the exact supplies that they know are immediately needed in bulk and ship them. how would you send the can of baked beans? what address would you send them to? and without a can opener, what use would the beans be to anyone? see? this is why they say send money to a reputable charitable organization so that they can buy what they know is most practical at the moment....
About the money again...Now I have given money but like you I would like more of an explanation. I feel uneasy because hell our country can't even resolve the money woes we are having let alone organize distribution of funds for another country. Katrina...need I say more. Haiti is a country that had nothing prior to the catastrophe and the former Pres's didn't give a dam then. Sorry for ranting! Bottom line lets GIVE AND PRAY money or not we can't be discouraged I will continue to help.
This is a catch 22. I feel they need both money and goods. I will tell you that there has been a set up similiar to what you spoke of and people have been trampling each other. So I hate to say it, but they need security to provide organization, which I'm sure money plays a role. I too question the validity of sending money, though I understand, I just fear there will be that one person that is corrupt that will misappropriate the funds.
i understand what you mean, but i have to disagree with you. because yes its true its easier just sending food. but the people don't know if maybe someone poisoned that food. especially after all this terriorism people don't trust them. plus the food may get spoiled. there's tons of reason why they are asking for money. but you did make a good point.
Shipping items to them cost money. The postal system is not working. Delivery at the airport is bottlenecked up. When you purchase on the spot there is no additional cost. I love the fact that you care!!
that's true they should make sure both is utilize. money should be used 4 medical supplies n workers 2 help rebuild n individuals should continue sending in items so please continue 2 DONATE!:-)
Quaadir for president! I thought that was shady of Clinton to say that too. Now you know that cash he requested is not all going to the people, unfortunately. You think they would've learned from Katrina how to organize and provide properly to those in need. My family just sent over loads of baby wipes, water, clothing, over the counter drugs, food with a team of volunteers that will give them out when they get there. I think that is the best way to do donate now.
I really like this system. I think its very valid and workable. A little far-fetched maybe, but I think it could work well. You make a very good point when you say we should donate actual supplies instead of just money. I think money should go towards medical aid and we should all send in actual supplies.
Qaadir, you need to send this post to Anderson Cooper. He has the great influence in my opinion in being an humanitarian and doing the part. Needless to say, I do agree with you on the donating cash deal. I know people who are struggling to pay their cell phone bill but yet they want to donation by texting and adding additional charges to their bill. I get the effort but I dont understand the purpose of this particular call of action of text to donate and support.
The cash vs material argument can be explained simply. With cash, it makes it easier for the people of Haiti to get exactly what they need or want. The problems with donations of food, for example, is that it doesn't suit the people's needs or diet. Like sending rice to a place whose people usually eat maiz would be useless because they wouldn't know how to cook the rice and it would become useless.
wtf are you talking about? even if they send in cash, diet is a problem. how will they find out each individuals diet? in chaos, u eat what you can find or just stick to water and greens or soup. Also, they eat rice in Haiti and again the individuals are not cooking the volunteers are. Plus its not that hard to cook rice, heard of a rice cooker?
What are you talking about? I'm saying cash is best so that every individual can buy what they need specifically. If you just send out food, that's where you'll run into problems. Yes, I have heard of a rice cooker but have you also heard of a 3rd world country where most people don't have electricity let alone know how to read and write? Cash makes everything *adaptable*.
in chaos who has time to buy for every individual? so what r u talking about? and to cook rice all you need is a pot, water, and rice. i said rice cooker to prove it is not rocket science to cook it and is very simple to make so it is fine if ppl send rice. no one said JUST send out food. if you watched the video, sending JUST cash is not practical bc ppl who do not have cash can send in clothes, food, etc. things that can give immediate aid.
ok the thing is this its a mess there ok they have no space to put all of this they arent saying they dont ever want it but asof now there is no where for it to go
I believe something crooked is going on with the aid for Haiti. shit dont make sense to me. I know they need cash but they should also need items too. And why the hell has aid not even gotten there yet, where did all that $ people donated go? I know with all the technology we have they can find some way to aid these people God bless them
the dominicans get their supplies in by driving across the border, and their port is on the other side of their country know where near port au prince, haiti......but honestly speaking the dominicans dont want to help the haitians they dont care for the people or care to get involved
Why the hell is the U.S. so freakn worried about other countries when we are struggling ourselves. Everyone struggles and GOD puts us through catastrophies so we learn from them. Thats just my opinion.
fuck off the US did not just have a catastrophically devastating earthquake that wiped out its infrastructure and killed people. GOD put us here to help thy neighbor and be empathetic, thats just my opinion
Sending stuff other than $ - who will sort it and make sure no one is sending tampered items (sad that there are terrible people who would do that). That would take a lot of time and resources alone. The main things they need are medical supplies and water purification systems. Food as well, but that's easier to get there by buying it at the borders.
Food and other items will be useful in a couple of months time, when things are more organized.
I agree that they should explain why we should send cash instead of stuff.
I think its because they probably get a reduced rate and more stuff for the money spent when you buy in bulk. If you buy a bunch of little things then it just causes a lot of crap to need to be sorted and also they are probably worried about the safety of the people, cause people may send dangerous things.
I agree with you, because them "air-dropping" items sure as hell ain't organized! People should help the best way they can/the way they want to. This is why people don't like to do things like they did in the past. Giving actual items allow people to feel more connected, like its actual people they know instead of just "victims" - it puts a face a real need. God bless you Q for having the guts to say this.
You are right, the necessities: food, water, clothing and toiletries should be the main priority right now, then the money can be used to buy other things and start rebuilding. Whats the point of rebuilding if people are not going to live long enough to live in it?
i elect you for president........ they can learn from u.

I think a good idea would be for the grocery stores to have a dedicated section of items that will benefit Haiti. And when u buy it, you put it into a bin, or something that the store has so you know that the items are not tainted in any way because the store has it protected.

Cash contributions allow professional relief agencies to purchase exactly what is needed for disaster victims. Money is easy to transport and it doesnt have to clear customs nor does it clog up ports. People who live and work in Haiti understand how difficult getting goods in and out the country can be. When food and other items can be purchased locally, it puts much needed cash into the economy.
berealaboutit 2 years ago
Yeah i see that, but i really think that Qaadir
s idea is way better.

Great video.

u r indeed right but the U.S is in 2 or $3 trillion of debt and there r still unemployed people. a girl in my class stated that when rebuilding haiti that the unemployed peopl here should go over there and get paid by reforming haiti and then the haitians could have jobs while the U.S can make money off of them and then some of the money can go towards the debt

A BLESSING
TheTelesha 2 years ago
this is rxactly how i feel too! when they say money only...in my opinion its a bit suspect! i was also wishing their was some type of way for me to send much needed items.
TheTelesha 2 years ago
I believe they said this because they fear that they will lose the financial support that is needed to help build up the country by people sending so many items, clothing they no longer want, etc. not that these things are not needed but building the country back up is essential.

Of course you don't want to put it in an envelope and stick it under the door to Haiti but there are a lot of refutable charities out there as well :-)
MissNVS1 2 years ago
Qaadir I <3 u much but I disagree. Money is king and it is always the fastest easiest way to get things done. It's simple as a wire transfer vs. 1 week for delivery. Not to mention everything is torn to fuck over there so they can barely transport it through. As far as people asking for money I don't think they are saying don't send canned goods, clothes etc. they are simply saying cash is better if you can spare it. If you can't spare $5 but you can take $20 off your food stamp card... do it!

GIVE MONEY!!!!!!
radiovaudeville 2 years ago
as for the donating money, i think they say that because they are buying food in giant bundles and it would be easier than for everyone to send in cans and goods which then have to be sent to a center near the city which noone can really get through so itd have to be sent elsewhere and then driven in, why not just use the bundles of food they are flying in directly in the middle of the capital. i donated money and clothes and i respect your opinion! love your vids! <3
anthillz00 2 years ago
i love your videos and i agree with your concept but however i disagree to some extent. the redcross centers with the booths is a great idea but it is just not that easy. Im sure you have watched the news and it its just total caos (cant spell srry) over there. there are no free spaces there ppl are living in the streets and if you see what happens when food is handed out and how ppl get violent then you would understand something like that would just simply not work. as for the donating money
anthillz00 2 years ago

I've had the same exact feelings regarding sending cash and not the necessary items. However they stated the reason to send cash instead of everything else is because they don't have the available transportation to transport these goods to the people. The ports have been destroyed because of the earthquake. there are large shipments supposedly already waiting to be unloaded. not too sure how the cash is going to heal the ppl if they cant even get medical supplies off the ships. just pray.
dread3156 2 years ago

I agree. The Haiti government is very corrupt (look up its recent history) and any money which is given will probably fall into the hands of the rich as it always does.
ChelskiBonjourino 2 years ago
first of all, i absolutely see where you are coming from since i felt the same way about the situation...
but the reason that these organizations (i'm speaking at least for the red cross) are asking for cash instead of the actual items is because they want the donations that they are making to haiti to be distribute EQUALLY amongst all those that are in need.
imaredhel 2 years ago
what i mean is that they don't want people sending in blankets, for example, because say if they give one family a big, comfy blanket sent by one person versus giving another family a smaller, cheaper one sent by another person then things don't get distributed equally (sorry if it's a bad example).
also, it is much more expensive to ship those items to haiti. the red cross (for ex.) has the supplies that it needs, at least as of now they do :)
imaredhel 2 years ago
also, since organizations like the red cross and the UN buy items in bulk, your money goes so much further, rather than if you send the actual items.
for example, a makeshift bed can cost only about $0.03 since it is purchased in bulk. knowing this, imagine how much more these organizations can do with the money donated...
of course, like we all agree, there are some shady organizations so be careful who you give your money to :)
imaredhel 2 years ago
if you send cash then they can get exactly what they need and they can buy in bulk where u can get a bottle of water for $1.00 they can get a case for $1.00
lifenet106 2 years ago
I wish we could send items instead...and I do agree with you Qaadir. The salvation army should have got involved as well to ship ITEMS toHaiti plys that fact that most of us cant afford to send money. I think there is something awkward about them stressing over money too.
M0N3t7 2 years ago
ok so if you send from the usa or another place than hati the government screens all packages and takes whatever they want and the people who need the supplies most of the time dont get anything you sent, however cash is different. The best way to donate is through foundations like red cross

dandotcom1989 2 years ago
but then there is also a ''cost'' for all the items they need. transport would just be one cost out of many and its not THAT expensive. I disagree, the money needs to be more focused on health-care of actually keeping these people alive

But sending supplies and food is definitely a good idea too...I mean it's all helpful regardless
Miaa88 2 years ago
Well there is also the fact that goods are a longer process to send. Where as it would get there eventually but cash will get there immediately. It's really about supply and demand, this way the people in Haiti actually get what they need vs what we think they need. The cash can also go towards helping to rebuild Haiti.
Miaa88 2 years ago
Shipping all the goods to Haiti from all around the world would add extra cost. It would cost less for me to send $5 than send $5 worth of goods.

How do we get the military to step up the process of moving the supplies to the people?

there is not the logistics to send all these goods there at the moment. The airport is already a mess, and they cant even get what they have there now out to the people.
And the Red Cross and others probably know what they need...the high energy biscuits, the bottle water, MREs (meals ready to eat), rather than a can of Beans, which would also require can openers...
astrolabe1976 2 years ago 2
medications, shipping cost, rebuilding and supplies to rebuild, debris clean up and equipment to do so and getting people there to provide help and cost to send those things from the US is costly getting it there may take a little longer but it may go further to help more people I read on one site that 7,000 can buy a 2 bedroom house there so things are a lot cheaper
ohhithinkdeylikme 2 years ago
From my understanding, they tell people to send cash because it makes it easier for them to put together care packages that will benefit each person individually. Many times when people send in items they get a lot of what they don't need and little of what they need.
scorpioluv1979 2 years ago

heyyitsfay 2 years ago
Good ideas, but the main problem with helping the victims is the cost of shipping. The items these people need are pretty cheap (by our standards). By sending money, you are paying to send the stuff to where it's needed.

....otherwise, you'd have people buying impractical materials that, in their eyes, are needed, but in reality aren't what the aids are in most need of. if you just prefer to send materials, call your red cross & ask what materials are most needed & where to drop them off. people often don't think of things like diapers, sanitary napkins for women, etc., that without, would make an already terrible situation even more unbearable to deal with. your heart is in the right place. continue to give!
purenature1000 2 years ago
This has been flagged as spam show
i think the reasoning behind them needing money is because the red cross and other emergency agencies will buy the exact supplies that they know are immediately needed in bulk and ship them. how would you send the can of baked beans? what address would you send them to? and without a can opener, what use would the beans be to anyone? see? this is why they say send money to a reputable charitable organization so that they can buy what they know is most practical at the moment....

Bottom line lets GIVE AND PRAY money or not we can't be discouraged I will continue to help.
keelyfruit 2 years ago

I sent this to Wyclef's official youtube channel. i think everyone should so that he will watch this.

I completely agree with you Qaadir.

ChelseaHysteria 2 years ago
wtf are you talking about? even if they send in cash, diet is a problem. how will they find out each individuals diet? in chaos, u eat what you can find or just stick to water and greens or soup. Also, they eat rice in Haiti and again the individuals are not cooking the volunteers are. Plus its not that hard to cook rice, heard of a rice cooker?
babyluv24 2 years ago
@babyluv24
ChelseaHysteria 2 years ago
in chaos who has time to buy for every individual? so what r u talking about? and to cook rice all you need is a pot, water, and rice. i said rice cooker to prove it is not rocket science to cook it and is very simple to make so it is fine if ppl send rice. no one said JUST send out food. if you watched the video, sending JUST cash is not practical bc ppl who do not have cash can send in clothes, food, etc. things that can give immediate aid.

I agree there is a lot of corruption. Unfortunately, while many suffer there are those idiots/scammers pocketing the money.

ok the thing is this its a mess there ok they have no space to put all of this they arent saying they dont ever want it but asof now there is no where for it to go

I believe something crooked is going on with the aid for Haiti. shit dont make sense to me. I know they need cash but they should also need items too. And why the hell has aid not even gotten there yet, where did all that $ people donated go? I know with all the technology we have they can find some way to aid these people God bless them

the dominicans get their supplies in by driving across the border, and their port is on the other side of their country know where near port au prince, haiti......but honestly speaking the dominicans dont want to help the haitians they dont care for the people or care to get involved
lexxe21 2 years ago 2
Why the hell is the U.S. so freakn worried about other countries when we are struggling ourselves. Everyone struggles and GOD puts us through catastrophies so we learn from them. Thats just my opinion.
midnitekraft 2 years ago
fuck off the US did not just have a catastrophically devastating earthquake that wiped out its infrastructure and killed people. GOD put us here to help thy neighbor and be empathetic, thats just my opinion

Love your posts. This one though I disagree with.
Sending stuff other than $ - who will sort it and make sure no one is sending tampered items (sad that there are terrible people who would do that). That would take a lot of time and resources alone. The main things they need are medical supplies and water purification systems. Food as well, but that's easier to get there by buying it at the borders.
Food and other items will be useful in a couple of months time, when things are more organized.

it was George bush that said just send in cash and not clothes but still good message
Blinky587 2 years ago
This plan won't work my love .... for one, who could afford the postage on those boxes, and who would sort that stuff? But nice try as always.
jcshanks 2 years ago
colin powell said money is needed so they can allocate the proper resources most efficiently and with suspect packages, it would take too long.
nitelillie 2 years ago
I agree that they should explain why we should send cash instead of stuff.
I think its because they probably get a reduced rate and more stuff for the money spent when you buy in bulk. If you buy a bunch of little things then it just causes a lot of crap to need to be sorted and also they are probably worried about the safety of the people, cause people may send dangerous things.
chevon1920 2 years ago
I agree with you, because them "air-dropping" items sure as hell ain't organized! People should help the best way they can/the way they want to. This is why people don't like to do things like they did in the past. Giving actual items allow people to feel more connected, like its actual people they know instead of just "victims" - it puts a face a real need. God bless you Q for having the guts to say this.
JassiePebs 2 years ago 3
You are right, the necessities: food, water, clothing and toiletries should be the main priority right now, then the money can be used to buy other things and start rebuilding. Whats the point of rebuilding if people are not going to live long enough to live in it?
