Bae Yong Joon is beautiful and brilliant. This series has everything: a GREAT storyline, amazing special effects, fantastic acting, and an intense, deeply moving love story. I cried like a baby after the first episode - So heartwrenching! You will never see a better k-drama series than The Legend - Four Gods. It's great from beginning to end.
I don't get the impression he left at all just because he walks into the light. The excerpts to follow said he reign in a peaceful kingdom for 19 more years. To me the light was him going to battle the heavens for man to have the right to decide his own fate without their interference. It never said anything about who he decided to marry or spend the rest of his life with but it wouldn't have been unusual for a King to have more than one wife or cocubine. Sujini however was his reborn love.
does anyone one where I can see episode 13-24 online (english subtitled of cantonese spoken?). Ik watched it on mysoju, but after epi 12 I can't see it anymore. I realllly want to see it! Pls help!

The king walked into the Gwanni Fortress alone and asked for her back. In return, they would get back the 10 fortresses that had been conquered. Okay...now if that is not love...I don't know what is. Somehow, I'm not sure he would have given up 10 forts for Kiha.
From reading these comments, I finally understand what was going on with the ending. So he went into the light to return the gifts and himself back to god. He was sent from heaven to unite the Joshin people and he had done that. The king loved Sujini not Kiha. As someone stated, Kiha was a childhood friend who was his first love. But Sujini was devoted to him throughout. The only time she left were the yrs. she protect his child. Even then, she was protecting HIS child because of love.
@ondeemia : when he decided to answer the heavens and left Sujini & his son, he still came back. I also thought at first he left them for good and never came back. But in the narration in the end it said that Damdeok or the great king Gwanggaeto ruled for 23 years. The time he decided to answer heaven he was in his 8th year of kingship.
@fuukomikaro Oh wow...I never realized that. Thank you so much for letting me know this. Also, thanks for letting me know he would have lived with Sujini. I wish BYJ could have filmed this part because it would have made a great ending. I am going to watch this again in a few weeks because I love this drama.
@ondeemia: No problem :) Actually I just finished re-watching it last week because I also love this drama so much :D I really am hoping they make a movie or sequel with the same cast...although it's quite impossible at this time. Anyway, enjoy watching again :D
@alicorporate If you type in FIRST KING OF THE FOUR GODS you'll get the youtube eng sub. The whole series. I want to buy it when I can for keeps. It's just that good. Watching it on youtube on my PC makes me want to get the dvd series for my big screen. BJY in living color. Yah, I could handle that.
@ondeemia: I also heard that in the script there was supposed to ba a scene wherein it was shown that Sujini & Damdeok lived together for the remaining years with Ajik but they weren't able to shoot it anymore because of BYJ's injuries. ^^ I just want to share this because somehow even though I did not see a happier ending on screen at least I know it was meant to be happy especially for our fave pair. i'm proud tat ji ah was his first wife wen he was still powerful bak in da tyme period wen he still had white hair...but im reallie dissapointed tat there was not a lot of romantic scenes with yong joon n ji ah. tat was a big dissapointment in tis drama for meh. i noe tat da director or sumtin wanted it 2 b based on da actual history but adding romantic scenes to those 2 would have reallie seem less sad n borin.

It's not that he loved Kiha more or Sujini less. Kiha was his childhood love. He has always known her. She was always there. With Sujini, she was just a pal, a good friend. It took her leaving to realize that while yes, he loved Kiha and would always love her, she was not the one that he was "in love with". You never stop loving your first love no matter how painful, but then you find your true love.

The ending is confusing but the way I understand it was like, the king chose to return the gifts of God to God and that includes him that is why he offered himself but not necessarily to be with kiha. I just wished he chose to stay human and be with Sushini, they look great together because of their smile and the character they portrayed was compatible, they exchange sense of humors and laught with each other. But you see, Dandok is my love, hehehe, sorry for both of them.
maybe kiha was his first love...but his true love is sujini..that's why when DD found sujini he said 'i will never let you go again'...and 'where u are is where my palace is'..(asa ka pa!!!!lol:)))

i think i am the only one who thinks that damduk true love is kiha not sujini...i think he missed sujini as a very close friend but not as beloved one...he can feel the pains of kiha even when he is faraway from her....i don't know ..he didn't even give sujini a look as he was leaving all he thought of is apologizing for kiha!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

The king showed his love to Sujuni on many occassions:
a. he began to get concern of her drinking (didn't want any other man to take advan. of her).
b. he wanted her to put on his armour. Something reserved for wives in old days.
c. he gave her his deceased mother's perfume bottle which was something he treasured.
d. he wanted her "glue to him" during battle so he could watch over and protect her.

Other ways he showed love for sujini
e. when she left for several yrs, he always carried her armour because he never beleived she was dead/was always looking for her.
f. when he found her, he said he would never let her go again. That his palace was where ever she was.
g. he always seemed to want to protect and watch over her. He missed her when she wasn't there.
h. In the end, he gave her and his son a long look because he trusted her to care for his only child when he left.
