1- The obvious, Dennis is a menace and of course the babysitters will hang up on his parents.
2- Like a lot of other movies of this era they used hits from 20-30 years prior. And thanks to that, they introduced a whole new generation to these classics... This song came out over 20 years before I was born... but good music never goes out of style. How often do you hear a golden oldie used in modern movie, as part of the regular soundtrack?
@78ColonyPark This movie had an old-fashioned feel to it, since it had so many senior citizens in it and it was set in a small town. Dennis the Menace is also kind of an American institution going all the way back to the comic strip decades before this movie was released. I can see why older songs were used in the film. l can't image anything current being used in this movie.
@78ColonyPark I wouldn't necessarily call it a "golden oldie", but "The Book of Eli" introduced me to Al Green's awesome version of "How Can You Mend a Broken Heart?"
This was my favorite movie when I was 10. I always remember this song being used in it. I loved it then, and still dig it now! It wasn't until I saw it on Youtube that I finally realized how HOT Lea Thompson is in this movie!
That was rude of those people to just hang up the telephone, before the mother even had a chance to make the request. They always could have said, "i'm sorry, i cannot babysit." I mean doing what they did adds insult to the injury.
I ALWAYS LOVED this scene!!!

This song works perfectly for 2 reasons:
1- The obvious, Dennis is a menace and of course the babysitters will hang up on his parents.
2- Like a lot of other movies of this era they used hits from 20-30 years prior. And thanks to that, they introduced a whole new generation to these classics... At least the lady at 0:28 and the guy at 0:31 didn't hang up.
Plus, I want that phone at 0:10.
