I love Machida's style. He is my idol when it comes to martial arts. He is a very technical fighter and I like that. Striking is the best. I would love to try and imitate Machida's fighting style however, he is 6 foot. I am not. Most fighter I train with are twice my size. I have to rush in to get hits, staying outside is suicide for me.

Well, Shogun learned his lesson the second time around against Lyoto Machida.
Many people say he won the first fight or became a draw based on his striking stats, but the three judges in the fight gave it to Machida when it went the distance.
The second time around, he learned his lesson and scored a TKO win.
the first fight was a draw. shogun didn't go after i and try to finish himt and if your the challenger you have to go for it. and machida is the champ, if your the champ you need to prove that and destroy your opponent and he didn't do that either, so there was no winner in the first fight
the second fight, is very cruel and shogun rocks machida.....but it was overconfidence and so very proud to himself. I think the best way for machida was to fight strategically and not to overpower shogun.......

One of the worst decisions I've EVER seen was on TUF12 Finale. Nam Phan lost to Leonard Garcia via split decision. It was clear that Nam won all 3 rounds. I can't understand these judges, I do know that they aren't employed by The UFC, they're independant contractors. Alot of the IC's clearly don't watch or know anything about Mixed Martial Arts. They need to come up with a solution to this ever-growing problem of bad judgement calls.

I think Machida knew from the get go that he didn't win the fight. You could tell that he really didn't truly believe what he was saying after the first fight. He may have also gone into the second fight already mentally defeated and that's saying a lot for a fighter like Machida who's so mentally strong. He went into the second fight with nowhere else to go really. He knew Shogun had figured him out and he couldn't change his style all that much anyway. So, he was in a difficult spot.
I have respect for all MMA fighters, not just Machida or Rua. If you're willing to get into that cage or octagon or whatever, you deserve respect. Props to both of these guys for being the best of the best in their division.

@obscureface you still get some fancy moves from tae kwon do occasionally, or some fancy karate moves. It happens when the normal shit like leg kicks etc stop working. shogun does some fancy shizzle, old GSP did some, cro cop does some fancy stuff too occasionally :)

Machida n shogun is both good. yes shogun did enough to win the decision.Machida is a like more Karate kindnof style who is very good with counter punches. Shogun focus on machida's legs too long. Shogun is more of a muay thai kick boxer who knocks people out with swagger which extracts fans

One of the worst decisions I've EVER seen was on TUF12 Finale. Nam Phan lost to Leonard Garcia via split decision. It was clear that Nam won all 3 rounds. I can't understand these judges, I do know that they aren't employed by The UFC, they're independant contractors. Alot of the IC's clearly don't watch or know anything about Mixed Martial Arts. They need to come up with a solution to this ever-growing problem of bad judgement calls.

I think Machida knew from the get go that he didn't win the fight. You could tell that he really didn't truly believe what he was saying after the first fight. He may have also gone into the second fight already mentally defeated and that's saying a lot for a fighter like Machida who's so mentally strong. He went into the second fight with nowhere else to go really. He knew Shogun had figured him out and he couldn't change his style all that much anyway. So, he was in a difficult spot.

@Caltic41k well i cant recall me seeing anyone use kung fu in the octagon before, but think about, kung fu has been around for who knows hundreds of years maybe thousands. if kung fu does not work, why would it have the potential to stick around for that long, so i guess we dont really noe untill we see someone use it, but i guess you also cant have that alone seeing that you might have a problem if ur takin down. well i guess it also really matters on how the fighter uses his techniques.

@obscureface you still get some fancy moves from tae kwon do occasionally, or some fancy karate moves. It happens when the normal shit like leg kicks etc stop working. shogun does some fancy shizzle, old GSP did some, cro cop does some fancy stuff too occasionally :)

Yes me to. But I think the reason they picked Machida as the winner is because in order to become the champion you need to KO him, or atlest give him a real beating. So since the fight was fairly eaven Machida won even tho Shogun was a little bit better.

@JRomeoC lyoto fights smart. i agree Shogun is the much better fighter and much more exciting but lyoto has a very difficult style. look how succsesful he was until he ran into Rua. flyodd maywether (gaywether) in boxing fights the same way good counterstriking and excellent defence. btw, Shogun all the way been a fan since i first saw him in PRIDE Fists of Fire i think it was PRIDE 26 or something.
