i made the horrible mistake for going to iadt for about 1 year. a wasted year of my life gone. only good thing that can come from that is that i caught on to their bullshit early on and plan to transfer from there as soon as possible.
@tytuniversity I'm a 24 year old USMC Veteran, and I have been attending a for profit university for the last 5 months. I am working towards a computer networking and security bachelors degree. Now, my question to you, is it still a bad idea for me to attend a for-profit college since my GI BILL covers all expenses and I pay nothing out of pocket?
@ferelpuma I went to a FPC (lots of GIs too) and Ana is right on much of what she says, especially about the admin side of things. They ARE indeed ruthless, they will "fib" and they will pressure you. Its all true! And shit, a lot of the time, they don't know WTF they are doing. BUT when it comes to the education, if YOU put in the effort, if YOU get the grade and if YOU go above and beyond (internship, be well verse on your industry, etc)--you will succeed, I did. Keep it up.
Thanks for shining a light on rip-off, for profit colleges. This needs doing until everyone knows how they pressure and cheat people. one anecdote after another just makes others think those are the 'losers' who can't learn. Average people always think they can pass this treacherous obstacle course, until it's too late.
@StarrEyes86 Not all colleges, there are some non-profits out there that were financed and built up for the sole purpose of offering low cost education alternatives, specifically geared toward those in the workforce or students looking for a tangible career path, and no so much in regards to liberal arts & humanities. Most of the non-profits that exist now are relatively small or capitalize on internet courses to keep costs within reason.
Education is ideally MEANT to be the great equalizer, but it has a hidden agenda to play in that it teaches segregation and importance of certain types of people and only teaches the type of stuff that those in power want the schools to teach. failure of schools to teach what the wealthy want them to teach results in them pulling out funding for those schools. a lot of schools depend on voluntary funding, without it, they will collapse, so they HAVE to teach whatever the wealthy wants them to.
I dont know about America, but here in the UK by the time it comes to Uni its too late for most people from poor backgrounds our schools are dreadful and personally I think they should focus on sorting them out before higher education.
@flake452 Yea that is a problem in Canada were i live, and from what I have observed TYT has addressed that problem and frequently, this channel is just designated for coverage on secondary education which limits it in ways.
Imagine a land run, but we will make this one equal opportunity, meaning we'll make everyone travel at the same speed and starting positions will be equally close to land claims, making the outcome completely random, ie: equal opportunity. But there are 1000 participants and 10 plots, of different sizes, 9 plots of one unit in area and 1 plot of 10 units area.
Is this in any way fair, just or moral just because everyone had an equal chance?
@WilhelmDrake This is stupid. Equal opportunity means the starting positions are equally close, but people will travel AT DIFFERENT SPEED, so that the quickest one wins the better piece of land! That's the whole point!
I think making the difference between at what level would education be funded and delivered is a crucial factor to the debate. For example, education in Canada is a provincial jurisdiction and it's a 2 tier system in all the provinces - where there's private and public schools.
frontline did a story on for-profit schools, there was a woman who was 30K in debt, she consolidated her debt, in the end she was 60K in debt. in canada, school isn't free, and we do have school loans, but there are lots of options, and it is no where near as expensive as it is in the US!!!
so Ana doesn't like for profit schools because they market aggressively and use facts & statistics to convince people to come to their school? just another example of how vapid & one-sided Ana's views are.. where did she go for school again? UC-never heard of it? right..
@tyt12327 um, no she is just telling people her experience. schools shouldn't have to hound down students like telemarketers. schools are not there to make money they are there to enhance people's knowledge and to advance our society!!
@chillytoes1 actually, you're wrong. Ana cited how the schools used facts on which majors have the best opportunities after college in terms of jobs as something negative. I think this was a weak point, and that's why she sorta trails off in her argument. listen again and I'm sure you'll agree
@tyt12327 i'm wrong in thinking that schools are there to enhance to help ourselves and our society?? ana actually finished her point by saying that one of the tactics that they use is fear to make sure you enroll in their schools.
I can say as a student going to a for profit college that they are really expensive but the knowledge I is still pretty good. I have learned a great deal from it and enjoy it though my degree is mostly programming and my 4.0 GPA was pretty easy to obtain. I now know a great deal of VB, Java, C#, C++, and HTML, .NET as well as SQL, Access database languages. I still push for free education though.
@GamerMarino84 Huh? You learned particular programming languages there? IMHO they should teach you the always-valid basics and characteristics/classifications not stuff that might become irrelevant in less than 10 years. On top of that anyone should be perfectly capable of learning another programming language in no time with no effort once he knows the basics of the type of language he wants to learn (OO, functional, logic-orientied, machine-oriented), quantity does not matter.
@595o Thanks for the response, they do teach the basics as well. I take a lot more than just programming classes those are just the ones I have the most fun with. Classes like Project Management, System Analyst and Design, Human Computer Interaction, Technology Infrastructure and many more are just an easy grade while being a bore. Programming classes allow me to go above and beyond the project requirements so I can still be creative rather than just writing a paper in scholarly format.
@595o Also quantity does matter because programming is a hobby for me that I would like to do for a living. I really would like to show some of my multi-threading Java app with my own GUI designs made in NetBeans. I do like Eclipse to but I like NetBeans for Java apps and Eclipse for Droid Apps. Though the APKs are a pain to make for different versions of Android OS. Also why does education now a days always have to be about getting a job, I just want to learn for fun.
Like they say: libraries are the free universities of education. Andrew Carnegie already paid billions to build those libraries and compared to that, your 200k is not going to make a difference. Except that you can buy two-three foreclosed houses with that money in Kentucky.
I hate to be the cynic, but education is the great equalizer? Not when the wealthy only have acess to certain schools like Harvard, and the rest are going to ucla! Who is going to be hired first, or have a higher paying, more influential job?
@pboisei Education is the great equalizer, the school you went to actually doesn't have as much of an effect on what jobs you get as you or others would think, ask yourself, the last time you went to the doctor, dentist, psychiatrist, did you ask them what school they went to? probably not, Do you care? probably not. You just care if they are good at the job. so long as there is equal opportunity (financially) to obtain the education the rest doesn't matter.
@enacra101 What school you went to plays a very pivotal role, much stronger in the employment. The customers don't ask such a thing, but the job market does for the proof of the credentials (and more). There is reason why those "prestigious" schools still maintain their high rankings both in magazines and in reality. The problem is, the financial chance to receive education is getting more and more unequal.
@davidmjeong926 well you may be right who knows, on a larger scale, but from my personal experience that repeatedly has not been the case as I have seen people graduate from top school such as Harvard, Yale and Brown without being able to obtain jobs in the same field peers from school such as Vtech, VCU etc have easily found employment in.
But that's just my experience. Keep in mind like I said this has happened repeatedly for me.
@pboisei I think he ment FREE education^^ your're right. the way it is now does not work. but in his story his father got free education so that's what i think he ment
It's not the school but what you make of it. For example, I went to a small community college, & during my time there was Vice President, then President of my honor society; worked as an integral part of the math/sci division (work-study); volunteered at the local library; and had a 3.7 GPA. I'm now at a state university, planning to go to grad school, & have many contacts for reference & lots of experience for the future. Employers care about go-getters no matter where they go.
@pboisei But Cenk is arguing against that. I think he was trying to say he WANTS education to be the great equalizer. Yeah he could of worded it better but I'm sure he would have agreed with you. Cenk seems to be a bit of a cynic himself lol.
Harvard? HA! Try paying tuition at a state school, they especially fuck over students who committed the crime of being from a different state than the school they wanted to attend. Harvard actually covers tuition for low income students.
@pboisei Its not the piece of paper you want to get from the college. Its skills you want to be more attractive to employers or start your own business more successfully.(Odd idea to create a job for yourself) You might not get anything for your Master's degree in Basket Weaving but I know I get more for my Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
@pboisei You say that as if graduating from UCLA leaves you absolutely no networking opportunities. Don't get me wrong, I get what you're saying, it just doesn't work with that particular school.
There was a story on ABC I think on how they exploit people's vulnerabilities....they'll say something like, "Hey, I thought you were really interested in being a success in X and become skilled in Y, there's nothing for you in [whatever you are currently doing]."
These TYT people are evil people. Very bad ideas that can only lead to destruction of civilization. We need to move toward freedom, not egalitarianism and collectivism.
Our education system is irreparable and needs to be replaced on all fronts...after more than 2 decades in academia, I'm convinced that there's no option than to scrap the current structures and approach, drop the freakish addiction to numbers and testing (which yield very little usable feedback for the student, teacher, admin, or otherwise), and focus on actual learning as opposed to image (driven by vacuous statistics). IMO, there should be no such thing as a for-profit college....
I went to the CHUBB institute in NYC for graphic design. About 95% of the people i attended the school with have not gotten a job in the our field. Eventually I went to a CUNY 4 year school and was fortunate (or maybe qualified enough) to get a decent job a month before i graduated. So i am with Ana on this one.
@NeccoWecco Name three. I'll agree most don't have -television- ads, but in my junior and senior years of high school I was constantly pummeled by ads from every college in the state (and several out of state) through the mail, or they were displayed or distributed at my high school itself.
@DeJach I lived in Ohio, never got ads from OSU, Cleveland State, CIA, etc. The only ones always ramming their ads down my throat were SCAD, Art Institute, Ringling and BGSU. Art Institute is also a scam school. They take everyone and anyone, don't care about the student's grades nor work, and give shit classes just to make those green ones.
@nuwnoe92 Holy sh*t! I have lived in Canada my whole life, I went to college here for 4 years and thanks to some light saving here and there by my parents over the years I am finished school and owe exactly 0$ as a result of my education. The average debt by the time you finish college in Canada I think is only about 10k.
@godonlyknows13 And ideally it should be less. although we have an excellent country. In an ideal world 10 000 should be around the maximum debt one could accumulate in an attempt to better themselves and our nation as a result.
That's why people shouldn't vote for Ron Paul cause he'll destroy the dept of education and end the student loan program since he want to close the gate even TIGHTER!
@Sony881994 Colleges and universitys (most) are in business to make money. If all that "free" government money dried up, they would be forced to lower the cost of tuition to a level that people could REALISTICALLY afford to pay. Student loan debt just passed mortgage debt as the largest contributor to personal debt in the U.S. at one TRILLION dollars. It's set up to rip you off, and the Government ENABLES the Corporations to screw you. Can you not see the current system doesn't work?
@peng1965a Good for you bro. I'm not saying yours a private, I'm just saying the problem with today's college around america. Is that people need to understand that private corporations share the same goal. To make money.
I already know of the that the government enables the corporations to screw people. There doing it with the health system anyways. And many other program I might add.
There are lots of people that should be going to jail in the GOV and the private sectors it's call perjury.
@Eddiepsp People don't understand.... that what RON PAUL is wanting to do is to attack the source/root of the problems. Too much is done anonymously through the Federal Government. By that I mean, Well Connected People and Corporations sucking out tax dollars. If most everything was done at State level, we would have 50 different examples of most everything to compare. Fraud and corruption would be more apparant, and easier to fight. THINK PEOPLE !!!!
@Sony881994 Delete this comment, please....and do some research. Everyone who tries to go to college or university with our current system is going to come out tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt....with no guarantee of getting a job. Does that make sense?
We will have to get rid of the corrupt system that isn't working, before we can move on to something better. There is no painless way to fix things.
@Sony881994 who gives a shit about the department of education and the student loan program when ppl are dying from fukin wars, when our civil liberties are deteriorating. we have corporate welfare, militarization of police, the formation of a police state, 2 party dictatorship. you are sick.
@SeriouslyPissedOff . are you really that blind to the violence and death around you? for profit colleges are absolute bull but we have more important issues. voting for obama because he will preserve a program while killing innocents and destroying countries is sick. ron paul is an answer to the establishment, a reset button. there might be other methods (protest, civil disobedience) but none that require the perpetuation of this criminal system through the voting process (Obama, republicans).
@ca9109 I absolutely agree with that. and I'm glad you agree in the bullshit of the colleges. But just because we have other (rather major) issues, doesn't mean we can ignore an institution that is quite literally destroying a generation. We have so much shit to fix at this point that I'm actually overwhelmed just imagining it.
@Sony881994 but to address your point its not like hes gonna come in and be a king. , the left will fight his crazier proposals unlike now since they are pacified by obama. however if he somehow magically manages to do this hes not gonna throw u out on the street, you and i will of course go through some transition stage and the program will not be available to people after that period. the violence from the wars and the future of your country (sopa ndaa) is enough for him to have my vote.
@Sony881994 (You've prolly got responses already but I'll try too.) You're not following the chain of reasoning. If you remove government-backed loans, there aren't enough private loans to fund every current student. This means that colleges are going to lose students and lose revenue. So what can they do? They can lower their prices to get more students and try to get more money from volume, or they can double-down and raise prices so only rich kids go. We'd likely see a mix.
@Sony881994 School tuition went far higher when loans made it affordable to pay more. Ron Paul was like most others in his generation; they hardly had money and did not have access to loans, so schools charged far less to attend them. Remove school loans and tuition will drop in price to a small fraction of now; even medical school was one hundredth what it is now, before the loans. Do not take my word for it; research the differences in tuition costs yourself. Paul does not want a fence.
@Sony881994 And so you suggest voting for Mitt Romney or Newt Gingrich instead? LOL. Paul is crazy but he's 100x better than anyone else running, including Barrack "butcher of Libya" Obama.
@Sony881994 Oh no that's not true the market will provide education for everyone because without the government the free market fairy will sprinkle capitalism dust on poor kids and they'll all get into the ivy league. It's all on Ron Paul's website.
@rjbonacolta Since he's running for President, he's running as a constitutionalist which to me means, he's running as a federalist President. Though his ideal society would be libertarian, he's not going to enforce that on each state but let them decide. After RP cuts the military budget, all those funds free up for states to tax their people (or not) to use it for education. But as long as it's on a federal level, your tax money will be wasted, where 1/3-1/2 go to the military.
The military can be the same when they're trying to recruit someone. I had a recruiter damn near stalking me for like half of my senior year of high school.
@kazooga1234 You mean a public college. When it comes for government helping students go to college. I'm for it in a public college. Not for a private College. What TYT don't understand is Private College are the 1%.
Why on Earth do people want to go to a expansive college that is a 1% money making machine is beyond me.
The price of college will never go down as long as the GOV feeds to private college for money.
Get rid of it, and people will just go to public not private colleges.
@Eddiepsp no i just meant not for profit college as in a college thats not trying to get money off of you the way bryman and other colleges are and i dont think my college was a private college but it was a 2 year college for a certificate but my school just wanted you to pretty much go to any college and get a degree and explained why college is so important and that switching majors is okay it will just take you longer to graduate and they actually did help you get a job
@kazooga1234 Keep in mind that College are the fat cats. People should go else where than go to a private college. There are out there but people have the mind set of, if you go to one of the best college in the world than you'll get a better Education and get hired easy.
Not seen the debt you go after it because after the bank loan you the money. By the US GOV law. You have to pay it back, No excuse YOU CAN'T EVEN FILE FOR BANKRUPTCY.
People need to understand that private college are the 1%.
@Eddiepsp like i said i dont think mine was a private college i dont know exactly what it is but i also know that private colleges seem to be better for people who have specail requirements like taking no timed tests and things like that or if they need extra help and stuff like that but it really depends on what people look for in their colleges and a lot of research should always be done and make sure that the colleges really do get you jobs afterwards mine does/did
i made the horrible mistake for going to iadt for about 1 year. a wasted year of my life gone. only good thing that can come from that is that i caught on to their bullshit early on and plan to transfer from there as soon as possible.

@tonywhiteshow I am not saying it's a bad school, but name one president that went to a state or public school.

@nuwnoe92 Sorry to hear that. My personal view is any school that has a commercial or ads is a scam. :/
NeccoWecco 2 months ago
@NeccoWecco So that makes every school a scam? What school doesn't have ads?
DeJach 2 months ago
@DeJach Most schools don't have ads.
NeccoWecco 2 months ago
@NeccoWecco Name three. I'll agree most don't have -television- ads, but in my junior and senior years of high school I was constantly pummeled by ads from every college in the state (and several out of state) through the mail, or they were displayed or distributed at my high school itself.
DeJach 2 months ago
@DeJach I lived in Ohio, never got ads from OSU, Cleveland State, CIA, etc. The only ones always ramming their ads down my throat were SCAD, Art Institute, Ringling and BGSU. Art Institute is also a scam school. They take everyone and anyone, don't care about the student's grades nor work, and give shit classes just to make those green ones.
NeccoWecco 2 months ago
@nuwnoe92 Holy sh*t! I have lived in Canada my whole life, I went to college here for 4 years and thanks to some light saving here and there by my parents over the years I am finished school and owe exactly 0$ as a result of my education. The average debt by the time you finish college in Canada I think is only about 10k.
godonlyknows13 2 months ago
@godonlyknows13 And ideally it should be less. although we have an excellent country. In an ideal world 10 000 should be around the maximum debt one could accumulate in an attempt to better themselves and our nation as a result.

That's why people shouldn't vote for Ron Paul cause he'll destroy the dept of education and end the student loan program since he want to close the gate even TIGHTER!
Sony881994 2 months ago 62
@Sony881994 No shit. Only reason Ron Paul looks good is his honesty and the fact the other guys are fucking corrupt as sin itself.
Snowman0147 2 months ago
@Sony881994 Colleges and universitys (most) are in business to make money. If all that "free" government money dried up, they would be forced to lower the cost of tuition to a level that people could REALISTICALLY afford to pay. Student loan debt just passed mortgage debt as the largest contributor to personal debt in the U.S. at one TRILLION dollars. It's set up to rip you off, and the Government ENABLES the Corporations to screw you. Can you not see the current system doesn't work?
peng1965a 2 months ago
@peng1965a Good for you bro. I'm not saying yours a private, I'm just saying the problem with today's college around america. Is that people need to understand that private corporations share the same goal. To make money.
I already know of the that the government enables the corporations to screw people. There doing it with the health system anyways. And many other program I might add.
There are lots of people that should be going to jail in the GOV and the private sectors it's call perjury.
Eddiepsp 2 months ago
@Eddiepsp People don't understand.... that what RON PAUL is wanting to do is to attack the source/root of the problems. Too much is done anonymously through the Federal Government. By that I mean, Well Connected People and Corporations sucking out tax dollars. If most everything was done at State level, we would have 50 different examples of most everything to compare. Fraud and corruption would be more apparant, and easier to fight. THINK PEOPLE !!!!
peng1965a 2 months ago
@Sony881994 Delete this comment, please....and do some research. Everyone who tries to go to college or university with our current system is going to come out tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt....with no guarantee of getting a job. Does that make sense?
We will have to get rid of the corrupt system that isn't working, before we can move on to something better. There is no painless way to fix things.
peng1965a 2 months ago
@Sony881994 who gives a shit about the department of education and the student loan program when ppl are dying from fukin wars, when our civil liberties are deteriorating. we have corporate welfare, militarization of police, the formation of a police state, 2 party dictatorship. you are sick.
ca9109 2 months ago
@ca9109 Wow dude. just wow. WHo gives a fuck about department of education, you ask? Wow dude. Fucking Ron worshippers are blind as fuck
SeriouslyPissedOff 2 months ago
@SeriouslyPissedOff . are you really that blind to the violence and death around you? for profit colleges are absolute bull but we have more important issues. voting for obama because he will preserve a program while killing innocents and destroying countries is sick. ron paul is an answer to the establishment, a reset button. there might be other methods (protest, civil disobedience) but none that require the perpetuation of this criminal system through the voting process (Obama, republicans).
ca9109 2 months ago
@ca9109 I absolutely agree with that. and I'm glad you agree in the bullshit of the colleges. But just because we have other (rather major) issues, doesn't mean we can ignore an institution that is quite literally destroying a generation. We have so much shit to fix at this point that I'm actually overwhelmed just imagining it.
SeriouslyPissedOff 2 months ago
@Sony881994 but to address your point its not like hes gonna come in and be a king. , the left will fight his crazier proposals unlike now since they are pacified by obama. however if he somehow magically manages to do this hes not gonna throw u out on the street, you and i will of course go through some transition stage and the program will not be available to people after that period. the violence from the wars and the future of your country (sopa ndaa) is enough for him to have my vote.

@Sony881994
If you're good you'll get scholarship and can still borrow the money via a different lender - even Universities can lend money.

DeJach 2 months ago
@Sony881994 (You've prolly got responses already but I'll try too.) You're not following the chain of reasoning. If you remove government-backed loans, there aren't enough private loans to fund every current student. This means that colleges are going to lose students and lose revenue. So what can they do? They can lower their prices to get more students and try to get more money from volume, or they can double-down and raise prices so only rich kids go. We'd likely see a mix.
DeJach 2 months ago
@Sony881994 School tuition went far higher when loans made it affordable to pay more. Ron Paul was like most others in his generation; they hardly had money and did not have access to loans, so schools charged far less to attend them. Remove school loans and tuition will drop in price to a small fraction of now; even medical school was one hundredth what it is now, before the loans. Do not take my word for it; research the differences in tuition costs yourself. Paul does not want a fence.
Johntkr 2 months ago
@Sony881994 And so you suggest voting for Mitt Romney or Newt Gingrich instead? LOL. Paul is crazy but he's 100x better than anyone else running, including Barrack "butcher of Libya" Obama.

@kermanshahi213 no, how about Buddy Roemer?
626718 2 months ago
@Sony881994 Oh no that's not true the market will provide education for everyone because without the government the free market fairy will sprinkle capitalism dust on poor kids and they'll all get into the ivy league. It's all on Ron Paul's website.
rjbonacolta 2 months ago in playlist More videos from tytuniversity
@rjbonacolta Since he's running for President, he's running as a constitutionalist which to me means, he's running as a federalist President. Though his ideal society would be libertarian, he's not going to enforce that on each state but let them decide. After RP cuts the military budget, all those funds free up for states to tax their people (or not) to use it for education. But as long as it's on a federal level, your tax money will be wasted, where 1/3-1/2 go to the military.
moonjp 2 months ago
@Sony881994 On the federal level anyway. He would expect the individual states to pick up the slack

kazooga1234 2 months ago
@kazooga1234 You mean a public college. When it comes for government helping students go to college. I'm for it in a public college. Not for a private College. What TYT don't understand is Private College are the 1%.
Why on Earth do people want to go to a expansive college that is a 1% money making machine is beyond me.
The price of college will never go down as long as the GOV feeds to private college for money.
Get rid of it, and people will just go to public not private colleges.
Eddiepsp 2 months ago
@Eddiepsp no i just meant not for profit college as in a college thats not trying to get money off of you the way bryman and other colleges are and i dont think my college was a private college but it was a 2 year college for a certificate but my school just wanted you to pretty much go to any college and get a degree and explained why college is so important and that switching majors is okay it will just take you longer to graduate and they actually did help you get a job
kazooga1234 2 months ago
@kazooga1234 Keep in mind that College are the fat cats. People should go else where than go to a private college. There are out there but people have the mind set of, if you go to one of the best college in the world than you'll get a better Education and get hired easy.
Not seen the debt you go after it because after the bank loan you the money. By the US GOV law. You have to pay it back, No excuse YOU CAN'T EVEN FILE FOR BANKRUPTCY.
People need to understand that private college are the 1%.
Eddiepsp 2 months ago
@Eddiepsp like i said i dont think mine was a private college i dont know exactly what it is but i also know that private colleges seem to be better for people who have specail requirements like taking no timed tests and things like that or if they need extra help and stuff like that but it really depends on what people look for in their colleges and a lot of research should always be done and make sure that the colleges really do get you jobs afterwards mine does/did
