  • thumbs up if you see a ufo in background

  • @english turbines. Most jets guzzle fuel when lifting its 2ton+ body off of the ground. Think about it. That's a lot of weight. Ecpecially if the wind is not their favor. And when trying to lift its weight at a vertical takeoff which doesn't use any wind for assistance takes more energy ( with a single engine).

  • Harriers waiting for your mark, repeat harriers waiting for your mark.

  • U guys are slime (:

  • this gets good

  • MW2.... stole their audio from this video

  • I knew I'd see some Modern Warfare 2 references on here before I even scrolled down. haha Nice. :)

  • Ahhh. The sweet sound modern warfare 2.

  • @DrQwerty487 You're a dumbass.

  • @XxKillaKlownxX No, sir,

    YOU...

    are a dumbass.

  • Ive heard the v/stol project was aborted on the harrier beacuse of too much fuel required so it got STOVL

  • At the airport, In a lengthy queue of other planes, wainting for a runway timeslot:

"Oh man, this is taking too much time. Screw the system, I'm takin off right here right now" ;-)

  • wtf plz all those cod players gtfo

  • fuck 7 killstreak i have hardline

  • Comment removed

  • @KiwicrusherFilms cuz they only know this plane from cod

  • harriers are so awesome

  • 7 kill streak woot! XD

  • @Smithacat And you're a dumbass too. And everyone who liked that is a dumbass. This is real shit. Fuck your video game. These are people's lives and all you guys can sit there and do is think about your punkass game. Whoopdeefuckingdoo. Shutup about the game. I'm here to legitimaly see some military demonstration and COD gets thrown in my face? Both top comments? I hate what this new generation is doing to the country. You guys are slime.

  • @XxKillaKlownxX i agree,almost every military video i see,are always about COD.

  • For sale; 5 Harrier tires, good shape 6 years old, only 1 mile on them.

  • FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAKE!

  • @mike920217 and why would that be?

  • @OmegaGamer04 oh cmon planes cant fly up! and in case your wondering, yes I have been living under a rock for the past 40 years

  • Funny.. if i look at the comments of a video of something that isnt in Cod.. there are no hyperactive underage kid's who comment their bullshit in the video. but as soon as it would be featured in cod.. it would get over 100k views by them and have like a 1000 stupid cod comments.. if they see a gunship for exe. an Ah64 apache they would immediately say: CHOPPER GUNNER!!! or shit like that.. please fucking idiots.. make your homework.. or get some knowledge about real warfare / war equipment

  • @AtomicFreerun WOW you say that and yet you are the first to make the stupid comment

  • i want one

  • Thumbs up for UFO on top of screen at 0:13 XD

  • The British designed and build Harrier.....Still the only Turbofan powered aircraft capable of flying off from the Hover. Thats a trick the F35B cant do. The F35B may be faster, but it cant land or takeoff in a confined, no runway scenario.

  • @EnglishTurbines did the british really make it? nice! :)

  • @MrSpeedDemon666 We did true VTO 40 years ago...Harrier Jump Jet....STILL ONE OF A KIND...F35B included.

  • @EnglishTurbines wow cool, im a little more impressed by britain :)

  • @EnglishTurbines oops, looks like you're wrong about the F-35B huh? Expect the video's soon eh?

"The STOVL variant performed 61 vertical landings (compared with 10 vertical landings in all of 2010). BF-1 performed the first touch-and-go maneuver in VL mode this quarter"

    tinyu r l. com/f35VTO

Touch and go in VL mode means VTO.

  • Comment removed

  • @EnglishTurbines Neither aircraft can hover or take off vertically when fully loaded. Harrier II for example, has a max rolling take off weight of 31000lbs but has a max vertical take off weight of less than 21000lbs. The Harrier's combat radius and/or weapon load would be severely limited if it had to take off vertically.

What makes you say the F35 "cant land or takeoff in a confined, no runway scenario"?

  • @tjp353 Depends whch version of Harrier you are talking about. Harrier can do a VTO and flyoff with full tanks and a rack of A to As....depends on the Ordnance types...You need to remember we invented the first true VTO jet fighter some 40 yrs ago. As for the F35B...IT CANT FLY OFF FROM THE HOVER irrespective of loaading..its flawed in its basic design. You will find clips of it coming out of forward flight into the hover..but not the other way...which means its a joke....an expensive one.

  • Which version of the Harrier are you talking about? GR7? GR9? Sea Harrier FA2? AV8B?

Vertical take-offs are great for airshows but are rarely used operationally. Whether operating from an airfield or a carrier they do a short take off and then land vertically, to maximize range & payload. Why do you think Ark Royal had a runway and ski-jump?

True VTOL isn't an F35B design requirement, but that doesn't mean it isn't possible. It's designed to operate like Harrier normally does - STOVL.

  • @EnglishTurbines The F35b is still in the early stages of it's flight test program and currently has very basic limits on it's flight envelope, so it's no good using videos of it's early test flights to determine what it can and can't do. It will be at least a few years before it can be flown to it's full potential.

  • @tjp353 I dont think you get it do you.?..Due to its nozzle / Fan layout, the F35B is never going to transition into forward flight from the Hover....If you knew what you were looking at you would realise this. The F35Bs engine is bias toward high speed flight, so it guzzles fuel doing a VTO, even then it cant get off the floor with full tanks...half full only.

  • @EnglishTurbines. After working in the Aerospace industry since 1997, including 2 years on the Harrier GR9 JUMP (Joint Upgrade and Maintenance Program) at Warton and Cottesmore, I've got a reasonable understanding of how the Harrier's and F35's engines provide thrust and lift, and how it's controlled.

As I've already said, F35 VTOL is not a program requirement but it's not impossible. Please explain why you don't agree - why will it never transition when Harrier obviously can?"

  • Comment removed

  • @EnglishTurbines. Didn't mean to reply 10 times - kept getting 'error, try again'.

United States Patent 5209428 outlines the design details of the F35's engine and lift system and explains how a vertical takeoff and transition to normal flight is performed. There's a link to it on the 'Pratt & Whitney F135' page on Wiki.

  • @tjp353 The US Patent may well explain how its cold fan and nozzle provide vertical thrust. However, whilst RR may have made all the "clever bits" on behalf of Lockheed, its Lockheed who are responsible for its flawed design in the first place. If you ever find a clip of the F35B flying away from the Hover, let me know will you, but I wont be holding my breath. As for designing an aircraft which can only perform a vertical landing...thats just nuts. If you only land vto..how do you get off again

  • Did somebody say strings? Really? Bush did it

  • That is so badass...

  • People think there is strings...? Are you kidding me?

  • Hardline n00b

  • you can see the strings...

  • @penguinhatman there are no strings

  • looks badass

  • @RfKamikazeClan I think it would be the other way round. sidewinder missle = Killed.

  • well the F-35 is now the latest VTOL jet, the harrier was still the frist and i think that that is still a great achivement. even now it is still paving the way of more of its kind. too bad the British retired the sea harrier, but anyway the were also retiring there aircraft carriers so that makes the sea harrier redundant for them.

  • The air force under the hovering harrier would pin you on the ground and probably suffocate you haha

  • wow..i love the harrier...but i dont see the f35 flew off after taking off vertically like the harrier just did...

  • @volikoto The F-35 has 3 versions. The air force version is the regular version and the navy version has wider wings than the air force and marine version to make carrier take offs and landings easier. Only the marine version is capable of VTOL.

  • F-35 is way better

  • @Mugenloo

IS there a f-35 in call of duty i wouldnt know? Why dont you go pick on someone talking about an ac-130 or something i was just saying the F-35 is better go whatch some vids do your research it takes off way faster then a harrier, plus everyone is talking about what they do and dont like about planes so stfu douche bag

  • Comment removed

  • alright that's pretty badass!

  • what kind of technology allows it to lift of without any speed like other jets and planes.

  • 5 people are just jealous as fuck!

  • The concept of this aircraft is amazing! still stuns me today!....I think more money should put on research on vector cannons!

  • Whoever's running the military research program likes Star Wars a bit too much.

The next big military project: a fighter that can take off and land vertically from a normal airfield or aircraft carrier AND fly into orbit! Then we can dogfight our enemies IN SPACE!!

  • @HyperSpify IN SPACE! lol

  • So sad that the Harriers did there last flight yesterday :(

A great piece of British machinery.

  • @Killerer

Your right. It's a disgrace that they have finished with the Hariers. Now the navy don't have any planes to fly off of their aircraft carriers. I think we're going to regret the day these planes were mothballed.

  • @firemanshrek There are other VTOL jets. The new F35 (B series) has vertical take off ability.

Off the record, who knows what else is currently available...

  • damn that thing must use alot of gas 2 hover..geez

  • @chris12321222 around 14 mins of hover and it is dry

  • And I thought this only happened in The Thunderbirds.

  • These things are as loud as hell

  • That is one BOMB ASS machine.

  • i remember watching a take off at an air show as a kid.awesome.i remember the noise to this day,i was scared stiff, what a plane,r.i.p

  • I actually learned about this plane in metal gear solid 2 lol...

  • dude harriers are so awesome. they would be insanely hard to use though... star wars in real life! kinda...

  • those are so loud if uve seen them in real life

  • I want one

  • @EnglishTurbines the F35b is better and is capable of hovering higher.

  • @spartan17717 I hope so. It's 30 years newer. I think you'll find most things or more advanced after 30 years

  • thumbs up if the harrier is badass!

  • time to be mw2 fag: isnt there ment to be two harriers before this one ?

  • @Gooba187 yes

  • I think VTO planes take too much time to take-off, is that true?

  • The Harriers has win the war of Malvinas...

  • GET TO THA HARRIAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!LOL

  • most people only know this plane from modern warfare 2.

But i've known it for a long time before that game, its awesome!

  • @2Aug2

yah it kinda makes me mad that people think they're know-it-alls just because they played a video game. and whenever i mention anything related to MW2 people instantly think im talking about a video game

  • @Aqquatick Im sick of that too... I am really interested in warfare but if i mention a weapon, people think its a video game im talking about, they dont know that a weapon exsists in real life.

  • @Aqquatick eff MW2, i feel in love with this plane and its been my favorite fighter craft since i first seen true lies back when that came out. i was like, damn this plane is off the CHAIN.

  • Can i be the MW2 fag today? "DUUUUUR! 7 killstreak!! IM RETARDED" MW2 is destroying america.

  • wheres the airstrike? :D

  • @HardstylezMike haha

  • @HardstylezMike 7 thumbs, activate that killstreak!

  • @xerke SHUT THE FUCK UP nothing beats the F-22 or eurofighter the only thing great about the AV-8 is that it has VTOL which is temporarly hard to fly considering the fact that it has the hover controls and fighter controls so get your call of duty shit out of here and get real get a MOTHERFUCKING LIFE!

  • @kenntracie Oh I see what you did there.

  • Vertical take off for planes is arguably the best idea ever.

  • wheres the other 2 for the airstrike?

  • Reminds me of Star Wars.

  • Feckin loud n awesome those harriers and can fly faster than a chopper . . Later ones safer than seperate engined versions

  • Wow, this could not be very fuel efficient, fighting gravity instead of using aerodynamics to takeoff. Somebody, start working on a magnetic takeoff system!

  • @bikutorusan harrier been in service since the 60"s and hence has had many upgrades etc. That system is very efficent, the bloke was just putting on a show, the take offs are actually just a fraction of the time from thrust delta (engine readiness check) which translates to 10-25 seconds compared to taxing and take off of a conventional jet at 1 minute minimum. The harriers flaw is its speed and the complexity of training for its pilots.

  • @kalikaputra Ah I see. Interesting bit of information. :) Thanks!

  • @bikutorusan No worries mate.if your interested search on this platform the F-35 Lightning II Strike Fighter Jet, its going to replace the harrier supposedly ;-) Will be sad to see the harrier go. In the forces it saved our asses heaps and when I was younger it was the first jet i ever flew (one a free ride in a raffle ;-) over and out.

  • this is good my friend doesnt think harriers are real just something infinity ward made up but ill show him

  • lol... he will be so surprised...kkkk

  • haha sounds exactly like it does in cod

  • Comment removed

  • Amazing sound! Cool!

  • them harriers are cool.

  • @amateursurgeon1107

A jet engine is no where near as effeiciant as a Helicopter engine at vertical take off's. To lift the weight a helicopter engine could, a jet engine would have to be a titanic size, To big to even thing about

  • @KR4BR Funny you say that dude. Did you know most modern helicopter engines HAVE jet engines. Do some research

  • I meant a jet engine on its own lifting due to thrust. Not a jet enginine driving a propshaft as it were.

Thats how i meant it. Sorry my bad for not explaining properly

  • Harrier videos are always incredible.

  • @asmumy hell yeah harriers are awesome.

  • doesnt this tech make the chopper obsolete?

  • @amateursurgeon1107

No, Choppers can maneuver more efficiently and jet engines cost millions more than propellers.

  • @TheRobotHell

    Rotors*

  • @amateursurgeon1107 I don't think so helicopters are still more manuverable.

  • @amateursurgeon1107 well with the amazing harrier, i dont see how we need them even though helicopters can maneuver more. we still use helicopters because of that but on my opinion, the harrier is dominate to the helicopter.

  • i know how harriers are a nato vehical but which nato countries use them

  • its british you spanner

  • first off i was not being mean to you, what ever spanner means.

  • India, UK, USA use Harrier

  • fuck

  • Awesome! I saw one on the queen's birthday (Im english lol)

  • the Harrier is not a fighter but a ground -attack aircraft = British ingenuity at it's best

  • british fighters are the best

  • i went and seen one today but they didnt take off veritcally , becuz they didnt wanna melt the cement lol

  • amazing!

its no wonder why they are still in service!!

  • brilliant, saw one of these bad boys at Farnborough UK, he did the exact same. lifted, turned, nodded to the crowd and then took off. what a buzz!

  • VTOL...

  • looks like it takes alot of fuel...

  • highly compressed air.

  • that is awesome.

  • thats why alien UFO'S are MUCH smarter than we are with their ships,........

  • is it true that they try to avoid doing this? cuz of the amount of fuel it needs is too great

  • a little bit. when doing this the harrier uses a special fuel called octane sulphade, a chemical only found in the backbones of baby rabbits. and considering how fast rabbits breed, the fuel is pretty expendable.

  • Comment removed

  • haha, thats simply amazing :P a massive waste of fuel though...

  • FRIGGEN SWEET

  • now I can see why people near air bases always claim to see U.F.O.s (Imagine seeing one of those from a great distance taking off at night?) you could very easily mistake it for an alien ship here to impregnate our women!

  • @ronaldrabbit28 lol those aliens just love our women dont they

    xD

  • THUNDERBIRDS ARE GO

  • Ok it's a fuel waste, but what an amazing machine.

  • Gr8 plane, GOD SAVE THE QUEEN GOD SAVE THE U.K

    Love and respect from Chechens

  • hell yeh u got tht right panyhk ....and this time i hope they dont kill the characters of to quick

  • and the fuel of your car, and the CFC'S of your hairspray, the freezer's gas, etc.

  • lots of fuel in this takeoff!!!

  • very cool.

  • They should put one of these bitches in TRANSFORMERS 2 !!!
